Why does this contain fruits and vegetables when ferrets are carnivores?

Answer by ChewyJun 13, 2019
This formula is designed for a ferret's unique digestive system that requires the right ratio of protein and animal fat to support their active lifestyles. The ingredients in this highly digestible, nutrient dense food, allow ferrets to get optimal nutrition while supporting healthy digestion.

Is this food now pea free? I have cetrine bladder stone forming ferrets so food must be pea free and I know ZuPreem used to have peas.

Answer by ChewyJan 30, 2019
This formula doesn't contain peas.

What is the percentage of animal protein vs plant protein in the '40% protein'?

Answer by ChewyJun 26, 2019
The 40% protein level is derived from the chicken found in the formula, so the protein is all from animal based protein.

Carbohydrate content on a dry basis?

Answer by ChewyApr 10, 2018
This formula's carbohydrate content is 18.0% on an As Fed basis, and 19.6% on a Dry Matter basis.

Learning on the fly...

This food seems much better than the other food my ferrets came with. Much more energy & better conditioned coats. I feed this along w/baked chicken breast.

When we got out ferret we were told we had to feed him the Marshall's food. We were told you can't change a ferret's diet because they are unwilling to change and it upsets their stomachs. The Marshall's food had to be wet and got mushy and disgusting and stank and was mostly getting thrown out, so we started looking for other brands. Every brand we tried he immediately changed, no fuss, because each was so much better than the last. Until Zupreem. Every other brand we tried after that, he wouldn't touch. So, according to our ferret's taste buds, Zupreem is the best! We love it because it's dry and there's no mess and it can stay in his cage throughout the day without worrying about it going bad. We refill when it's empty. Otherwise you have to feed ferrets throughout the day and once we went back to work after covid, that wasn't an option. Everyone's happy thanks to Zupreem!!

Good food with great pricing

This was the food my boy started on at the shelter. I ended up switching to higher quality ferret and cat foods. Then our favorite was discontinued, then another. In researching I found I needed to lower their protein as seniors anyway. When I saw that Chewy carried this at a much lower rate, it was a no brainer.

They love it.

I switched from Marshalls and I am so glad I did. For a day or so my 4 ferrets didn't want to try it. I mixed it and once they tired it that was it! They never ate the other brand again. Their coat is beautiful and the smell of their excrement is much less. I am very happy with my purchase.

Brilliant!

My Baby recently quit eating his previous food, and lost weight. 1 whole pound, which for a ferret, is really bad. REALLY bad, as in over 1/4 of his total weight

My Baby recently quit eating his previous food, and lost weight. 1 whole pound, which for a ferret, is really bad. REALLY bad, as in over 1/4 of his total weight. I tried several different brands and this was the only one he'd eat. A little over 2 weeks later and he's gain it all back, plus some.

Ferret Food

This is an inexpensive food that I mix in with another brand. One of our ferrets have gum issues so we have to add water and make it mushy. Takes a little longer

ZuPreem ferret food

A rep at a veterinary conference told me this has a supplement in it to help reduce the odor from their bowel movements.

I can not recommend this stuff enough. We bought three ferrets and bought Marshall's brand food. They wouldn't touch it. So we wanted to put them on something healthier so we tried wysong. This resulted in horrible weight and hair loss and diarrhea. We tried Kaytee in hopes that garbage food would encourage them to eat. It did not. I had lost all hope but gave this a shot. They are finally gaining weight and acting normal again. So, like other reviews. If you have picky ferrets. Give this a shot!

Too much plant protein

While Zupreem took out the pea protein that had been listed second, they replaced it with sweet potatoes. Ferrets do not digest plant protein, so having it listed

While Zupreem took out the pea protein that had been listed second, they replaced it with sweet potatoes. Ferrets do not digest plant protein, so having it listed second means that this food potentially is delivering only half the animal protein listed on the protein analysis. Many ferrets developed bladder stones after eating the formula with peas second (or third) on the list, and while they removed it, I don't know if sweet potatoes are any better. Any plant protein can cause bladder stones in a ferret, I believe. I do not recommend this food.
