I was reading a question and it said burn in and after burn distance. What does that mean? I understand how to place it I just don't get what burn in and after burn mean

Answer by ChewyMar 26, 2018
The term burn in is similar to when breaking in a new pair of shoe, once used you can move the the light closer to the cage.

Whaat are the specifics for this bulb? CRI.? Color temperature in Kelvins? Lumens? Is it zero flicker? These are all important details that determine if a bulb is truly appropriate for birds.

Answer by ChewyJun 08, 2021
The Avian Sun bulb has a CRI of 88 and a Kelvin rating of 6800K, the lumens are 900. All fluorescent bulbs flicker, but any fluorescent bulb can get to zero. The flicker rate of the avian sun bulb is high enough that it will not be noticed by birds.

Can you use any kind of lighting fixture? Or do you need a specific kind to use with this light bulb?

Answer by ChewyMar 14, 2024
This compact fluorescent bulb provides a balanced light spectrum and is self-ballasted so you can use it in most fixtures, either indoors or outdoors.

Does this bulb fit in the Zoo Med Avian Sun Deluxe Floor Lamp??

Answer by ChewyMay 19, 2018

As soon as I turned this on, my female lutino budgie looked all around the cage as if she just put on those colorblind sunglasses that humans can get. It was really cute. I knew the sun was good for birds but didn’t know that they are actually “colorblind” without it. They can see better, find and choose food easier, as well as choose mates and friends with more confidence. My male doesn’t show any change in behavior (he’s always a nut) but my female definitely does every time it’s on. Something to note: I was only able to use this for one week because it fell and a piece cracked off the end and it stopped working. It only fell about a foot and a half but make sure however you have it set up that it’s very secure. Thankfully the birds were ok but when I buy a new one I will be putting it in an adjustable lamp instead of hanging from a hook.

UVA & UVB are so important for parrots to metabolize their nutrients for better health both inside and outside their bodies. It is great for their mental wellbeing. I have my lamp plugged into a timer that mimics the rise and fall of our actual sun. I still put my parrot outside in fair weather (supervised by me in his carrier cage) to get real sun as that is always the best. However, when we can't go out it's comforting to know he's still getting the UVB & UVA he needs to be healthy and happy.

Again the item that was shipped was not packaged correctly it was a bulb that costed me 47.00 and it was just thrown in a box and taped up nothing to protect it this has been a constant issue with Chewy I have received things broken leaking. To be honest if I could have found this bulb locally I would never have ordered from Chewy. I am very happy that the bulb did work and wasn't damaged in shipment.

This is the only bulb I trust to deliver the light it says it will. I use this now for my parrot, but previously have used it in rehabbing a wild baby bird that had to be kept because it couldn’t fly, and she wasn’t growing chest feathers. Her diet was perfect. But those feathers would not grow in. I realized sun light was the missing factor and got this bulb with the stand as an al in one purchase. I eventually needed to buy a new lamp (the same one) and a new bulb every year. Parrots needs 12 hours sunlight 12 hours darkness to get optimal health. Highly recommended. And Chewy is great!!!

Just what the Dr. ordered!!! Especially during the winter months. Don't get much sunshine here in the Pacific Northwest this time of year. So to make sure my birdie buddy stays healthy with strong bones and beautiful feathers she still is able to get her 10 hours of "sunshine" every day. And she stays healthy and looks beautiful!!!

My bird is a baby from a breeding pair from 30 years ago. She is getting old now and the light helps her especially in the winter. a timer is a good idea because they need 12 hrs of daylight and 12 hrs of darkness. It needs to be as close to the birds as possible with out letting them being able to chew on any part if the light or cord. hang it over there cage and they will bath in it when they need to. I use a light cover like a mechanic uses to work on cars ,so the rays reflect down on my bird. She can get away from it if she wants.

Happy and Bright

I recently purchased this light for my conure's cage as the cage is located in a very dim location in my house. She was having problems with what seemed like depression to me and the doc said she needed a full spectrum light on her cage. She was missing out on Vit. D. Since I have installed the lamp the turn around in Kahlo is wonderful!! The only problem was that I could not find the lamp stand that goes with the bulb. I ended rigging something up and it does the trick, but I wish that I could have purchased the matching floor lamp for the bulb from Chewy also.

Your indoor parrots and birds need these lamps replaced every year to make vitamin D that they would normally get from the sun. My middle age parrots were starting to have health issues. I read an article on their need for direct sunlight not just light coming through a window. Using these lamps for 6 hours per day takes care of this need. If you cannot remember to turn them on, it is best to put them on a timer so they are on and off at the same time every day. Follow the location and burn in instructions when you set them up. Put the future date for replacement on you calendar and replace every year. Your parrots and birds will enjoy better health.

Love this light!

I'm thrilled with this light! Each bird has their own and get to experience this light all day. I turn them on first thing in the morning and off for the night

I'm thrilled with this light! Each bird has their own and get to experience this light all day. I turn them on first thing in the morning and off for the night. Highly recommend this for your bird and his or her health! Be sure to angle it where people are not looking directly at the bulb. While these are very beneficial for your bird, I have read they can be harmful to the human eye. That's why I use the zoo med floor lamps and angle these over top each cage. The light stays focused on the birds area.

Lights for large parrots

On a timer for 8 hours a day. They need this when they are kept indoors and don’t have direct sunlight. Even f they are beside a window.
