Is this good substrate for a corn snake?

Corn snakes can be housed on Zoo Med’s Aspen Snake Bedding, Forest Floor cypress mulch, or ReptiBark. We recommend a substrate layer of 2-3 inches in depth. Provide moistened New Zealand Sphagnum Moss in a Repti Shelter to create a humidity chamber. This chamber will help your snake loosen its skin before it sheds. Zoo Med’s Eco Carpet can be used as a safe, environmentally friendly, and easy-to-clean substrate.

How much bedding do I have to use for my 10 gallon terrarium??

To determine how much bedding is needed would depend on the thickness that is being set up for the terrarium. This bedding is recommended to have a minimum 2-inch depth. With very large, heavy snakes, you may need up to 4-inch depth. For a 2-inch thick bedding, it's recommended to have 2 pounds of substrate per gallon of tank.

An absurd amount of dusk

I just got the aspen this morning for my Dumeril boa. I got it because aspen doesn’t hold humidity and it’s easy to burrow in. However, like any other brand, aspen has a bunch of dust. This package had an unreasonable amount. I stirred around in the terrarium for a while, then did the same thing with a moist rag, then stirred more with a vacuum hose to capture the dust particles in the air. After almost 2 hours of this there was no visible improvement. So my last resort is soaking them multiple times in pillow cases to get all the particles out of the aspen. As you can see it was very much needed. IF YOU DO THIS, make sure to bone dry the aspen before putting it back into your terrarium! This is not my first rodeo for I have had snakes since I was a little kid.

I use this substrate for my king, ball python and children's python. I only recommend it for these pythons if you use a tub, which keeps the humidity up, while

I use this substrate for my king, ball python and children's python. I only recommend it for these pythons if you use a tub, which keeps the humidity up, while aspen can dry up a glass tank. I tried to substitute Kaytee small animal aspen for this but they smell so bad. This has very little odor, not flat like dried coco fiber so the snakes can burrow if they wish, which my CP does over using a hide. It also absorbs pee very well. One time my king tipped over some water from her bowl after getting too excited over her food. The aspen soaked it up so well that I only need to remove half the aspen. The rest was completely dry. For that same reason, as long as I air out the tubs and mix the aspen every other day, I don't need to change out the entire tub as much. The main concern most snake owners have is impaction. All of my snakes were fed from rats to baby pinkie mice inside their tubs with no issues. They pooped just fine. Obviously use your own good judgment and try to clear the feeding area in the tub before giving the prey.

I’ve been using this since I got my corn snake a few months ago! She’s still just a baby and loves to burrow- it holds its shape really well for her. It hasn’t been messy at all as I use a piece of carpet bedding underneath to wrap it all up in each month when I change everything out. I also love that it’s easy to spread out so a bag of this goes a long way!

I put a thick layer of bedding in his tank and he burrows through the bedding, you can see his tunnels in the bedding. It works great for him. No odors no dust.

I love Zoo Med's Aspen Snake Bedding! My four corn snakes seem to love it as well. They enjoy burrowing and hiding in it. I love that people are surprised that I have reptiles and they don't notice a smell. Clean up is so easy with this snake aspen. I recently had three 24qt bags and still bought three more, of the same size, while they are on sale. I now have a good back up supply for my two 40g, one 20g and the 10g enclosures. I have tried other brands in the past but this last year found this and Chewy's deals and am happy to benefit, as well as my snakes :) For those wondering about the amount to use for your enclosure. It is up to you and your individual snakes. I personally like to provide at least two inches thick layers of substrate. I also provide two water dishes per enclosure, several hides and a lot of fake greens, but their very favorite seems to be the hammocks and bridges.
