I cook a large batch of tasty, protein rich “stinky paste” for my dogs once a month. The basic ingredients are roasted, deboned, skinned chicken, raw white fish (usually flounder or tilapia), steamed carrots, rolled oats, and raw shelled eggs (from my own pasture raised chickens). I purée the ingredients and freeze three cup portions in individual Rubbermaid containers. I thaw one per week in the fridge, and mix at a ratio of 1/4 paste to 3/4 kibble. I scoop portions into large Toppls, and freeze them overnight. This is by far the favorite enrichment for all five of my dogs! They prefer this special meal to any bully stick or other food offering. It takes my Swedish Vallhunds over an hour to eat their meal, usually on a Sunday morning, and they are happy for days afterwards! I wash the Topples in the top rack of my dishwasher after they are empty, and they come out looking brand new. I took three frozen Toppls to a relative’s house while visiting with Celine, my show puppy, and she enjoyed one every evening for dinner after showing.

A full Toppl will last my pup 10-15 minutes at most. The large can easily fit half a can of food or half a pound of raw. You can heap on 3/4 of a pound if you don’t mind a mound on top. The small holds maybe a few heaping spoonfuls and doesn’t click into the large one very securely. These don’t hold up as well as the Kong classic (see the torn up rubber in the pic) and are easier to empty. This would be a good alternative to more difficult feeders for dogs new to working for their food or ones that give up easily. The Toppl is however much easier/faster to fill and clean for daily use. When my pup’s calories got cut when he was on activity restriction, freezing some canned food in the Toppl to give at the end of each meal kept him from begging for more. Those extra few minutes were enough buffer for him to realize he did indeed have food in his stomach!

I was looking for an item that had a larger opening to make it more enticing for my dog. I didn't like the opening size other items like the Kongs but this was great. We freeze about half a can of wet food in there and it keeps him busier much longer than a lick mat. It's a great size he can hold with his paws while licking and there is no worry about tongues getting stuck in the smaller opening like there is with some similar toys. We have the smaller one that fits in nicely but we keep them filled separately. Our dog is not a huge chewer of rubber toys but I can see how one should be cautious and always keep an eye out, but it's not an issue for us. It does collect hair easily from the rug or dog once it's covered in slobber but the ease of throwing it in the dishwasher is 10/10. Leroy approved

Keeps the peace and great for allergy and pancreatic dogs

We have a new puppy and he was driving my 3 senior dogs crazy. In the morning they like to relax and snooze and he was driving them bonkers. I’ve bought 4 of these so far. I fill it with small chunks of beef or cheese, kibble, treats, plug the hole on the side with peanut butter. Then I pour baby food or blended canned dog stews over the kibble part. These creates a frozen treat that slows my pup down. This keeps him busy all morning. I have since started making them for the seniors too and everyone is happy. One of my frenchies has extreme allergies so I can control what goes into these things vs searching endlessly for treats that are safe for her. One Frenchie has pancreatitis issues so I can also choose safe foods for him. I am grateful for this product.

Just buy them! There's literally nothing bad I can say about it. It's tough, it's a million times better and more versatile than the kong. I bought both the small and the large so they can lock to become a puzzle. My pup loves it. It's SO easy to fill and even easier to clean. He's also learning how to play fetch with the small one. It's easier bc I can pop a treat in it every time he brings it back. My pup is a chewer and destroys toys. He managed to chew up the toy that came in the same package a month ago. I'm officially a big west paw fan.

Mike is a 13 month old Great Dane. He loved it even though it took him 30 minutes to eat and still did not finish. Inside I put pumpkin puree, plain yogurt, a small dental stick and peanut butter on top. Even though it was the largest size offered, I really think a bigger one would be better for him.

I use this so much that I bought a 2nd one. I like the idea of my dog being able to get her tongue inside it easily (unlike the Kong). I usually put in the one to freeze: a tablespoon of plain greek yogurt, roasted sweet potato, & mushed banana. I also use it in a pinch with a very small amount of peanut butter smeared along the 'lip' to get her in her crate when need be. The 2nd one I use for a veggie/fruit snack in the afternoon.

After this was recommended to me by a slew of people, including my vet, I ordered one for my Springer Spaniel pup, stuffed it with canned food and froze it. She loved it! But, she couldn't get to the bottom of it, so I ended up scooping out the remaining food. Nonetheless, she didn't destroy it, so it was a winner, until the second time I used it, and it turned out to be no match for my voracious little chewer. Oh well.
