Do Wellness pet foods contain meat byproducts?

Answer by ChewyDec 22, 2018
Wellness pet foods are free of meat by-products.

Is this non GMO?

Answer by ChewyAug 17, 2018
The Wellness Quality team has worked very hard to remove GMO ingredients from the Wellness dry dog and cat foods and nothing is changing in their recipes. As the discussion about GMOs has continued in the pet community, Wellness has made a conscious decision not to make a broad non-GMO statement until there are definitive regulatory standards to guide such claims in the pet food community.

Where does the salmon come from and is it farmed or wild?

Answer by ChewyAug 10, 2018
Whenever wild-caught salmon is available, it is sourced for this diet. When not available, farm-raised Salmon from the Pacific Northwest is used to ensure the recipe is still available for the members of our furry families.

Are these cans BPA free?

Answer by ChewyAug 22, 2018
All of Wellness plastic cups and cans are now BPA-free. Previously, the lids on our 12.5 oz and 13.2 oz sizes were the last to transition to BPA-free. To confirm that a 12.5 oz or 13.2 oz can is BPA-free, please look for an expiration date of March 2021 or later.

This is generally a good option, healthy and my cats like it. However something recently changed in the formula. The texture used to be a soft pate that had almost a melting quality to it, but with my most recent shipment the texture has changed. It now has an artificially firm gelatin like texture that doesn't change whether it's room temperature or cold. It's weird. My cats don't approve, nor do I. It's like they decided to throw a packet of gelatin in with the regular food to make it more firm for whatever reason. It just makes it seem more artificial and it's harder to break it down so that the cats can lap it up. They still tolerate it but it's not as good. There was another brand that did the same thing and eventually I had to discontinue buying it. It seems to be an unfortunate trend with cat food...

Love That Wellness Brands Are All Natural

I have 4 cats, so I buy the 12 oz cans and split it 4 ways. I buy the grain free chicken, turkey and turkey and salmon. I was buying the Wellness Core grain free kibbles, but one on my cats got UTI and dermatitis between her legs and on the underneath of her tail - twice - back to back. No sooner she got over one with antibiotics, a few days later, it came back. This is because of the high carbohydrate content in the kibbles and the fact that my cat is on the heavy side and is unable to reach down there to clean herself. My other three cats are of normal weight. You would think that the vet would tell me about all this - but nooooooooooooooooooo. They need to make their money!!! I strongly encourage anyone with animals to do research on the internet to find out what is best for your loved one. Having lost my first cat to chronic kidney failure and feeding her special food for her condition (just finding out that the special food doesn't have the proper nutrients in it) - I did not want to do a repeat with my current cat. So I did about 6 hrs of research on the internet to find out that feeding dry kibbles, not drinking enough water, being over weight, not enough exercise, are all causes for UTI. I now feed my cats all canned food and add an extra tablespoon of filtered water and nuking their food at each feeding - twice a day. I use clumping litter and always clean it at least twice a day, sometimes more. Feeding all canned food with some extra filtered water flushes their system out, thus, going to the kittie litter more often. Overall, I love that Wellness brands are all natural, and make every effort to put no meat-by-products in it. (the 4 Ds - dead, dying, diseased, disabled). I also like that their foods are grain free.

I love Chewy! I wasn't going to complain if I didn't get a "How'd it go?" email.

The 2nd row of cans were bent. However, the issue I had this time (for the first time) was that someone packed the heavy case of cans ON TOP OF the 18 bags of treats that I ordered. When I opened the box, the case was on top of the dental treats. I'd rather have heavy cases of food on the bottom of a box with 18 (crushable) treat bags in it.

Order was on time and correct. I have been ordering from Chewy for several months and have been happy. Just a little bummed that some of the cans were dented and one was dented so badly that it was leaking out. At least 3 of the cans are un-usable. Emailed customer service and hoping they can resolve the issue.

The picture above is the old can that the cats love ... my last order came with Pate - Smooth Loaf on the can ... its still purple and Turkey & Salmon but now that it says Pate Smooth Loaf the cats won't eat it ... I called and a great rep said they change it at Wellness and don't tell Chewy about it ... So don't go by the picture above ... it is now a different formula and a different can ... The rep took great care of me ! I will donate the case of food to the Humane Society at 162st and Dixie Hwy. minus the 1 can they tried but wouldn't eat of course.

I bought almost $200 worth of canned food for my furkids and unfortunately of the 54 cans more were dented than not and many severly dented. One had no label so I am not even sure if it is cat food...I reached out to Chewy's in regards to this matter and was told it was unacceptable this is not how they do business but yet 6 days later and that is the last I have heard from them in regards to resolving this matter with me. I will be shopping locally if this problem is not resolved so I can ensure I don't waste my money on dented cans that I can't use. I understand a can or two but more than half of an order of 54 cans is unacceptable to me!

My cats have been eating this food for over 10 years. On 4 occasions I have received batches that were very loose and full of liquid. When I called Wellness and provided them samples of the batches, their response was that the consistency was within their range. Meaning the have a specification with a +/- tolerance and though this was like a thick soup consistency, it was still OK by Wellness standards. Having manufacturing experience and completely understanding GMP's, spec's and quality controls, I am concerned about the quality of Wellness. Knowing how difficult it is to change food and for the lack of "premium food" on the market back then I stayed with Wellness. After their last batch of soup I found similar comments on the internet about Wellness Cat Food and decided to switch. I tried over a 3 month period Halo (no good- big chunks of veggies) and Blue Buffalo which I thought the cats really liked, but they began losing weight which is not good with old cats. I had a few cans of Wellness in the closet and gave the cats one and they ate it all. The cats LOVE it. Because my 3 cats are older and I don't want them losing weight - I am back with Wellness. My advice is to Google Wellness Cat Food issues and really think before starting your cats on this brand.

I've been feeding our two adopted strays this for about two years now, and it's the only food that doesn't cause one of our cats to have loose bowels. I believe she has a sensitive stomach, as she used to either vomit or have loose and watery bowel movements with other soft foods from cheap brands like Friskies, Fancy Feast, etc. This food was suggested to me by my sister, who was an Animal Science major, because of the important vitamins that is crucial to good cat health (taurine, etc). We mix a bit of water into the food to help prevent blockage in our male cat. Whether it's working or not, we haven't had to take him to the vet for urethra blockage, so two thumbs up. They have healthy bowel movements and I am extremely satisfied with this product. We feed 1/4 of a can to each cat twice a day, so it costs us about $30 each month. Not a bad deal for such a high quality food.

I get tired of opening multiple cat food cans per day. This brand’s salmon & turkey flavor is one of the very few that my over weight cat will eat. Now that there’s a more affordable option I’ve decided to cut back my cat’s dry food and provide her with more wet food. Suki has lost 1 lb in less than a month already and I’m convinced it’s because we had this brand as one of her wet food options!
