Why garlic powder?????

Answer by ChewyNov 13, 2019
When used in small amounts, garlic can help support the immune, liver, and cardiovascular systems, prevent blood clots, and reduce cholesterol/fat build up in the blood and heart. It also aides in the fight against bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. Garlic also helps with the product's palatability.

I have spent well over 500 on this brand of dog food, my pet has only been on this Wellness brand since if had her. Recently, she has been having a lot of stomach issues and I had to take her to an emergency vet yesterday. They had told me there was a parasite in her stomach that was causing her uncontrollable diarrhea, they recommended I check her dog food to see if its gone bad. I ordered this last bag just a few weeks ago and shes almost through it, when I took a flashlight to the inside I saw a tiny worm or maggot crawling outside a piece of her food. I almost threw up, Ive heard of people having this happen to them but I never thought it would happen with this brand since its so expensive, double check other dog foods who are not manufacturered by this same company before purchasing. Thankfully I was given a refund by chewy but this is unacceptable from this company and manufacturer I just wonder how many other batches had this same bug without people knowing.

I have tried many big brand dog foods, some comparable to Wellness in nutrition but find with Wellness, particularly the Lamb & Rice my dogs (Bullmastiffs) are eager to eat, they actually tell me it's dinner time & they will consume either moistened with water to produce a gravy or dryl I saw a substantial difference in their waste - reduced by 50% which to me means they retain more of the food so what goes in doesn't mean that comes out LOL. I switched to the Lamb & Rice after using the Healthy Weight as I had one overweight dog; now that is no longer the case but if I go back to free feeding & see weight gain I will go back to Healthy Weight; otherwise the Lamb & Rice will be first choice.

I have 2 dogs. One can and will eat whatever I feed her and does well on it. My other dog has a sensitive stomach and can be a bit picky. I had her on the TOTW Ancient Welands and she loved it and did good on it but her vet wanted her on a more moderate protein level, lower fat, and a lamb based food with grains. I put her on Acana and she got really sick. Back to vets we went and vet said it was just too rich for her system. So I tried the Wellness Complete Health Lamb and Barley and we have a winner! Not only does she love this food but she transitioned to it with no problems at all and the funkie shaped kibble encourages her to chew, and not just swallow whole, each bite. Both dogs love it. It does smell a little more like fish (the menhaden fish meal) than lamb but to dogs the smellier the better.

So far so good, as both of my dogs love their new Wellness Complete Health Lamb & Barley. They have been on Wellness Original Grain Free for many years, but because of the recent scare on grain free food, I decided to change. So glad I did because their stools are firmer and both my rescued 12 yr old German Shepard/Malmute & 8 yr old Schipperke are very happy and energetic.

Romayne has 2 favorite non-human foods. This is her second favorite, which is alternated every other week with her most favored, Wellness Wild Game. This is now her 5th year since we rescued each other & she generally turns up her nose at other dog foods, She was 25 lbs underweight when we got together and she now maintains a very healthy 72 lbs.

If you’re reading this review you probably had read dozens already. There is a plethora of dry foods on the market. I switch foods every 4-5 months. My vet thinks the grain free is a lot of hype and he also thought Wellness was a good brand so I tried it. My dog loves it and it seems to agree with him. But full disclosure, he is a lab and eats virtually everything!

First off, Chewy’s Lightning speed shipping is unreal. Literally arrived in 1 day. Stanley is my 4 year old 70lb pitbull/Dane mix from the shelter. He’s not the pickiest eater in the world, but he’s never been stoked during mealtime. He’ll always try his luck w begging before he trudges over to his bowl in defeat lol. He does get bits of training treats on walks, for good behavior, and obedience games/toys so I’ve never been worried about him not eating. He’s naturally slim and the vet says he’s at a good consistent weight. But lately I’ve noticed his skin looks dry and flakey and his poops are a little smooshy. He itches and licks at times, and he always seems pretty tired. Might just be the couch potato Dane in him, and he’s overall a mellow dog, but he does seem to get slow at the end of our walks and sleeps almost 20 hrs some days. I’ve had him on Purina one Pro plan savor since I got him 8 months ago. Was recommended by a few friends. But when I check the ingredients I see wheat, corn and soy and meat by products at the top of the list. Thought that might be contributing to the above so in my search to find something with better ingredients that didn’t break the budget and I landed on wellness. Started w the 5lb bag to see how it goes... he immediately was begging when I pulled the bag out of the chewy box. I gave him a few pieces to try and he kept begging. Following me around and sniffing the bag and chewy box for more. Mixed it into my pouch on our walk and he seemed to like it as a reward. Slowly mixing it into his bowl with mostly his old food and he loves it. It definitely has a distinct smell that’s different than the old food. But it’s an organic type of smell, like REAL meat and stuff is in there. Doesn’t just smell like that dusty dog food smell. Hopefully he keeps going for it and no transition symptoms! Super happy he loves it so far!

We have a 13 month old yellow lab purebred and just switched away from puppy chow at our vet's advice. I did a lot of research and decided to try Wellness based on the ingredients, price and many positive reviews. I did the usual gradual switch over during a 2 week period, starting out by adding just a bit and then increasing Wellness and decreasing the puppy food. Our lab loves it and gobbles it up but that seems typical for labs! She gets a serving first thing in the morning and again at 5 pm. She typically stools twice a day, when first awake and taken out on our property and in mid afternoon. I have noticed that the stools are a bit softer than before but especially in the afternoon, that last bit she produces is very wet. So not sure if she is reacting to the food or not. We will try it for the next month and decide if it is right for her.

I did share my story on my facebook with family and friends, about your web site my dog had an allergic reaction to a can of dog food I order and how kind you were to have me donate the entire case of can dog food to a local animal shelter. Thank for caring about animals in need. My dog loves his dry wellness dog food and his beef can dog food.He won't anything else. Theresa
