I read that erythritol was an ingredient in the enzyme combination. I thought this was poisonous to dogs?

Xylitol is toxic. Erythritol, while also a sugar alcohol, is not. It doesn't cause a severe drop in blood sugar or liver failure while xylitol does. Per AKC regarding erythritol: "Studies have shown that dogs can tolerate daily consumption up to 3.5 g/kg of body weight without severe adverse effects. High doses may lead to temporary gastrointestinal distress such as diarrhea, vomiting, or bloating."

These chews have an abrasive texture which through the mechanical action of chewing, aids in breaking up tartar and plaque that calcify on the teeth. The patented "Z" shape of the chews allows for the chew to get in between the grooves of the teeth where plaque and tartar can accumulate. The combination of the above properties along with Erythritol (sugar alcohol), Pomegranate and Inulin (prebiotic) work in tandem to help reduce bacteria, freshen the breath and aid in bad breath derived from digestive origins and helps support intestinal well being.

My love bug developed a wildly sensitive GI tract last year and has only been able to tolerate Purina ProPlan Hydrolized salmon food. As a dog who used to get any treat she wanted, people food on the regular, and a daily greenie, the restricted diet affected her mood and demeanor. It broke my heart that our daily greenie ritual had to stop. Her vet gave us the a-okay to try these and see how she tolerated it and, almost 3 weeks in, so far so good! She was ecstatic to have something other than her hydrolyzed food and it brought a tear to my eye to see her pounce after and play with a greenie (of sorts) again. She was so happy! If you have a dog on a hydrolyzed diet, trying new things can be nerve racking, but these have been great for us!

Ernestine really likes these chews. We call them her cigars so when I ask if she wants a cigar she sits up immediately. I like that these aren’t rawhide, which I never give her. She takes one to one of her special beds reserved for prime treats, she has several throughout the house, lays down and chews away. Recommended by Ernie.

I started using these for my last dog, a rescue senior who needed allergy friendly dental help. He loved them and looked forward to them every night, so after he passed and we welcomed a new puppy, we started him on VeggieDents out of tradition. If my last dog loved VeggieDents, my current dog is obsessed. Every night after his last potty break, he RUNS at top speed straight to the bedroom and he will wait there staring at us until we give him his VeggieDent (we call it "cookie"). He will not proceed to bed without it, and if we stay up he will start to cue us that we are running behind by sitting and waiting in his cookie spot. If we run out of them and have to use a substitute dental cookie, he will accept it, but he will sit up and mean mug us intensely until he finally falls asleep. His food can be swapped out, his treats can be interchanged, he is easy going enough that we can feed him dinner or breakfast a little early or late without missing a beat, but don't mess with his bedtime VeggieDent! And I like that these are allergy friendly and VOHC. Chewy and Virbac have lifelong customers in us!

I started using this as recommended by a vet I used to work with. My dogs are obsessed with them. They sit at the cabinet every night after their last potty break outside and wait for me to give them each one & they run off to chew it before bed. This has helped maintain the plaque on their teeth between brushings and dental cleanings. Do not get me wrong- these do NOT replace dental cleanings or brushing but they do help in between. Rex has minimal plaque growth and this helps him the most. Ralphie his brother must have gotten the worse genetics as he's always had bad teeth. He requires a little more TLC. Each dog is different so please remember that when deciding if these are a good fit. (I think so regardless! and it's a cute nightly ritual to have with them). I have not noticed any additional weight gain either, even when they have these consistently (1 a night).

My dog absolutely loves these!!! When it's getting around bedtime he starts staring at me using his ESP skills to tell me it's time to go to bed so he can get his treat. He gets so excited knowing he's getting this at night. I give it to him to clean his teeth before going to bed and have to make sure I never run out. Once I did and tried other products while waiting for his reorder. He didn't like any of them. I'm now on a subscription so we never run out.

I’m pretty strict with what I allow him to eat, knowing nutrition is key to his health and longevity. But the little guy loves to chew and mean ol’ mom won’t let him have junk rawhides and wasted calories on junk treats and chews. When the dentist I trust recommended these though, I was surprised, but excited to try them. I was even more elated when Chaz actually loved them!! He won’t eat just anything so the fact he loves them, AND they are good for his teeth and safe makes me very happy!! I don’t have to be a mean mom anymore! I get to give him little chews he loves without worrying about how it’s affecting his health. He ask for them after dinner and he grabs it and runs outside to chew in bliss. This makes me AND him so happy!

My dog readily accepted the treat and was happy to eat it. He jumps up and begs for it if we are anywhere near the bag. When I worked at a GP vet office we sold these since they were VOHC approved. While he likes the greenies, I feel better giving him these since they have more texture for good oral health, slightly minty smell and palatability. Thanks for carrying these!
