been told by vet to stop using poultry flavor for my cat who is on limited protein. Information here is confusing, on chewy: no animal protein, on virbac website in general ingredients still shows poultry but says in virbac FAQ that mint vanilla for pets on food trials. Could you clear things up?

Answer by StellaFeb 24, 2026
The vanilla mint flavor includes "vanillin" and "Methyl Salicylate" which provides the vanilla mint flavor. There is no poultry in the ingredients for this specific flavor.

I thought Sorbitol is ver toxic for dogs. Why is Sorbitol in your toothpaste?

Answer by ChewyJan 02, 2020
Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol with a sweet taste which the human body and animal body metabolizes. It is typically made from corn syrup but occurs naturally in apples, pears, peaches and prunes. Sorbitol is approved for use in toothpaste and mouthwashes and safe for use with dogs.

Can you confirm that this toothpaste has no protein like the chicken or beef flavors. My pup has poultry and beef allergies

Answer by ChewyJun 03, 2019
This toothpaste does not contain any poultry or beef.

The toothpaste is coming out white and brown. New tube.why is there brown liquid in with the white paste?

Answer by ChewyMay 06, 2020
The discoloration of the Vanilla Mint toothpaste can happen due to oxygen reacting with the enzymes in the toothpaste causing a cosmetic discoloration.

Great toothpaste with a great smell

My two pups are severely allergic to protein and are on everything hypoallergenic including their food, treats, etc. so I found this vanilla enzymatic toothpaste. I use a toothbrush that is rounded and put some on it and I thoroughly brush their teeth every morning. I scrub each section of their mouths from front to back inside and sides. They like the taste but hate that I’m in their mouths . I’ve been doing them since they have been two months old and now that they are a little older , they still don’t like it even though I’m gentle with them. But their teeth are very white and even their vet says she is very impressed with the condition of their teeth and she sees no tarter on them. I’m a spaz when it comes to brushing my teeth and my daughters so I’m no different when it comes to my pups. And I also don’t like when a pup has bad breath. When a dog has tarter just like a human it can lead to bad health conditions. So I take care of my dog’s teeth . The enzymatic action of this toothpaste really makes a difference over other toothpaste that doesn’t have it. And I’m so glad that it comes in vanilla flavor so that I don’t have to worry about my pup’s allergies. Highly recommend!

Toothpaste or tasty treat?!

I’ve brushed my two Aussies’ teeth with this for over seven years. They absolutely love it and it keeps their gingiva and teeth super healthy. I’m a human dentist and worried my dogs were destined for dog breath and perio, but using this daily we’ve had healthy checkups and fresh breath :) . I’ve tried a few flavors, but the Vanilla Mint is their favorite! I definitely recommend! My only complaint is the tube. It inevitably gets a hole in the casing and gets a little messy toward the end of the tube. I recommend a tube squeezer to keep it tidy and get the last bit out.

I have been using this Virbac toothpaste on dogs for years but was hit & miss on getting our dogs teeth brushed. After the last dental cleaning at the vet (ca-Ching$, ca-ching$!) I had enough so I keep a separate dog teeth cleaning calendar hanging up and brush the dog’s teeth twice a week now. The dog’s breath is 100% better and gums and teeth and looking really good. I just use an extra soft child toothbrush from a discount store and this Virbac toothpaste, and supplement brushing with a good rawhide chew every week between the two brushings and even the vet has said things looks good. Note: you have to start slow and easy with short exposures to the toothbrush and toothpaste to get your dog started or they will never get used to brushing. After 2 years, our dog actually wags their tail after a brushing and considers a toothbrushing session to be tender loving care with lots of praise for given for allowing me to brush their teeth. With lots of patience and regularity, you can get your dog to let you brush their teeth.

Virbac enzymatic toothpaste has been an important part of the daily care of our Miniature Schnauzers since they were young. Schnapps died at 13.5 years with all his teeth and Sigi is 14 and has all his teeth. We started with Virbac on a small rag and rubbed it on their teeth every night before bed. I then tried the big rubber finger brushes and that they did not like. I then tried a child's sized toothbrush and I have used it ever since. It's a part of our nighttime routine and it takes less than a minute. While our boys love/loved the taste of all the flavors, I prefer the vanilla/mint because it smells so good. I wish everyone new that their dogs can keep their teeth into old age with a little tooth brushing every night with Virbac Enzymatic toothpaste!!!!

I have been using this toothpaste and this flavor for over 17 years. If you want your dog/cat to have SMELLY good breath, use Vanilla Mint only. Who wants their dog/cat to smell like a meat or fishy stuff. This smells fresh and pleasant. When my old service dog, Rio, was live, I would brush his teeth twice a week because he would be in public. Vanilla Mint is the flavor I used. My new service dog, Abigal Gabrial Josaphine uses the same toothpaste. When your service dog is working around the public, hygiene is important. If you are wondering about what "flavor" to order, Vanilla Mint is your answer.

I have a 2-year old chihuahua. I want her to live forever so I started to brush her teeth very regularly since she was 6 months old. Since her mouth is too small, I use a piece of moisten gauze around my finger and this toothpaste to brush her teeth. She does not like the brushing itself because I get all the way to her back teeth. But she loves the flavor of the toothpaste!! After i’m done brushing, I usually let her lick a little bit of toothpaste out of the tube. Her teeth is very healthy and her breath is always fresh (I know since I always let her give me doggie kisses). She doesn’t have any allergic reaction to this product. And yes, I have tasted this toothpaste myself to make sure it’s safe. It tastes slightly sweet with a vanilla flavor.

This toothpaste is great! I have bought at least 4 different brands and flavors (Frisco, Arm and Hammer, chicken flavored, peanut butter flavored, etc.), but this one smells the best by far. It smells very similar to cream soda. I will say, it doesn't foam up at all really, but none of the dog toothpastes I've used really do. The results are great though. Family and friends often comment on how clean her teeth are and how fresh her breath is. I try to brush her teeth at least once a week, but sometimes I miss a week or two.

My Lab is very finicky with toothpaste and after trying meat flavored one she didn’t like, this vanilla mint is a hit! She comes willingly when I tell her it’s time to brush her teeth. No hassles or fighting to hold her still. She likes licking a little extra I give her so she must like the favor. I’ve been using this brand for a year and her vet always informs she has very clean teeth and no dragon breath, lol I brush her teeth daily and I’m a very satisfied customer.

I have tried a few pet toothbrushes over the years and this one has been the easiest to use by far. The brush head is small and angled, which makes it much easier to reach the back teeth without feeling like I am poking around blindly. The bristles are soft but still feel effective at removing plaque, and they do not irritate the gums. What I appreciate most is that it does not feel bulky or awkward in the hand. Brushing feels more controlled and my dog tolerates it better than stiffer or oversized brushes we have tried in the past. It works well with enzymatic toothpaste and makes regular brushing feel more manageable instead of a chore. This is not a flashy product, but it does exactly what it should. If you are trying to stay consistent with dental care, this is a solid, no nonsense toothbrush that gets the job done.
