My 50-lb dog gets a scant 2cups a day. The 40-lb bag lasts roughly 10 weeks.

great for my older easy keeper!

We have the suspicion that Floyd The Dog would probably not only sustain himself but would thrive on saw dust. That dog is more or less on a perpetual diet regimen for his whole life. We learned pretty fast in the past 10 years with him, that normal feeding regiments would leave him a sausage. So finding a good food that makes him feel like he actually had a satisfying meal without turning him into a pillow is quite the challenge. Now at his older age we start to see the first signs of arthritis and we sadly had to take the exercise for him down a notch. He gained weight IMMEDIATELY and we had to switch foods because of that. We chose this food because of the reviews and the fact that we are now dealing with a more geriatric version of him And The added to Glucosamine etc really is a plus. He gets additional joint support treats, but we could see an immediate change in his demeanor and activity levels. He looks great on this food, stays in shape and he isn’t “scouting the house for snacks” as he did on other foods because they had to be given in such small portions that it appeared to him as he hadn’t been fed at all. We’ll definitely stick to this food since it gave us back the silly ball of energy we love so much!

My three dogs are between 5 and 14 years of age...and all are a tad on the "portly" side (just like we two-legged pack members). After my biggest one, a Hovawart named Harry the Horse, tore a ligament in his knee; it was time for him to drop a few pounds or face an expensive and long-recovery-time surgery. So, the vet recommended that we switch them all over to a senior/weight magagement type of dog food. They've only been on the Victor for a few weeks but they do seem to enjoy it (the previous brand we used for about a year was less well-received). Their energy levels are fine (we're all kinda lazy in this family, though) and their weight isn't creeping upwards as it was with the same amount of measured feeding of the previous brand. So the switch to Victor appears to have been a good decision. The idea is for their weights to decrease very gradually. So, this weight loss process will be a fairly lengthy one. It helps to have a dog food that they'll eat per schedule, fills them up and keeps them healthy...yet has fewer calories than the brands they had been on previously.

great food

absolutely love victor food. been feeding it for about 15 years now. my old 150 lb dog needed to loose weight, not that he was overweight, but he had hip dysplasia

absolutely love victor food. been feeding it for about 15 years now. my old 150 lb dog needed to loose weight, not that he was overweight, but he had hip dysplasia really bad when he was about 10 years old. i took him of victor beef and rice and started on senior food for weight control. he went down to 135 lb , not hungry and enjoyed life for another 3 years. now i feed it to my 4 year old to control weight in the sommer month when she doesn't move around a lot because of the heat.

I have a 9yr old giant 90lb all american breed, and a 4 year old Blue Heeler/Lab 50lb mix. They are excellent. I chose this food based on multiple scenarios of medical problems that were occuring. My blue Heeler mix she has a birth defect and needs additional vitamin C to prevent UTI's this food has enough vitamin C plus a supplement to assist her problems. She also has problems with losing weight with foods with high fish proteins. She also had a problem with her hip giving out randomly. So the glucosamine amount in this food plus a supplement helps her to not have her leg randomly give out. This food due to being a senior formula ALSO assists in losing weight for her. Basically this food is a life saver for my baby girl. My 9 year old lost weight and enjoys this food. He is always looking forward to his breakfast and dinner! He doesn't have near as many problems!

My golden retriever is 13.5 years old and for the last two years he’s had issues with his hips (typical of goldens). I decided to switch his food to this brand and type because he was overweight due to not being able to walk like he used to. He’s been on this food for about a month and I’m literally shocked by how much energy he now has given that he was unable to walk even two blocks. I’m now able to walk him a mile a day and we can even play fetch together. In addition he has lost some weight which is helpful on his knee. I’m so proud of the progress he’s made over the month. I will definitely recommend this brand and I will be buying it again although I might switch him to the active dog type because I don’t want him to be too thin. Anyways great food my dog loves it!

My Dog Is So Much Happier & So Are We

I had weaned my dog onto another dog food when Victor had their big recall. That was a big mistake. So as soon as it was available again, we are weaning him back

I had weaned my dog onto another dog food when Victor had their big recall. That was a big mistake. So as soon as it was available again, we are weaning him back on the Victor Purpose Senior Healthy Weight Kibble. Even though we are just at the 50/50 stage, he is so much happier. The horrid gas is gone, he's no longer hungry all the time and the difference in his poop is practically back to normal....no longer smells like "something crawled up him and died" and it's solid! YAY! And it's easier for him to poop now too. And he once again after his meals, he's back to flinging himself on the floor and rolling around in happiness grunting.

Love it!!!

I honestly cannot say enough great things about this product! My BaileyGirl is 8 years old and battles arthritis, allergies and just generally starting to show her age. We give her supplements but nothing seemed to be helping. Out of desperation I said said let me try something different with her food. I switch to Victor about a month and a half ago and the difference is amazing. She is energetic, playing and rough housing like a puppy again! I cannot believe the difference. I will definitely be continuing this food for our girl!

To preface my comment, I want to say that after I bought a 40 pound bag of this food, and realized I could not use it, I reached out to Chewy asking for a credit

To preface my comment, I want to say that after I bought a 40 pound bag of this food, and realized I could not use it, I reached out to Chewy asking for a credit. Chewy honored its 365 day satisfaction guarantee and refunded the full price of the 40 pound bag! I plan to donate the opened food to a local wildlife sanctuary. I recently adopted a senior dog and knew that I needed to get him on a weight management plan pronto. Based on the five star reviews, I gave Victor a try, starting out with a small bag. I already knew that my dog prefers wet food mixed in with the dry, so I was able to get him to eat it that way. I have not had a dog since I divorced 12 years ago, so making sense of all the food choices available was pretty overwhelming. I agree with the other reviewers who say this food really smells bad. We had a diet-unrelated trip to the vet, and I learned that he had gained a bit of weight on what I was feeding him, which was embarrassing! When I told the vet that I was feeding my dog Victor, she said Victor, even the weight management formula, contained too much fat, and I should stop feeding it right away. She gave me a list of companies that keep a veterinary nutritionist on staff, and told me to start my dog with the appropriate life stage from one of these. She also had me stop the canned food, and instead mix the kibble with some chicken broth. I’m waiting for the order of the next trial of dog food to arrive from Chewy today. So yes, becoming knowledgeable about dog food is a challenge, but I encourage anyone who has ordered within the past 365 days and is not fully satisfied to reach out to Chewy with your order number and let their customer service help you!

Baron is a lab mix and has always been picky with food. He is a sensitive old man. We suddenly lost my 13 year old chihuahua ladybug and they were both eating the same senior food. He lost interest in the food and would pick at it. I would add food scraps to it and he would just pick those out and refused to eat it. I decided to try a new dry food. I liked the ingredients and all the positive reviews so I gave it a chance. And voila! Baron likes it! I had tried to transition foods and he would pick this kibble put and leave the previous brand. He looks forward to eat and no coaxing. I'm very happy with this purchase and highly recommend for finicky eaters.

My dog Brady had been on an “all life stages” dry kibble for the last 9 years and recently had been having loose stool and inconsistent issues. I decided to look into a change of food as I had already removed all treats, table foods, etc. I thought senior food would be the best option since he just turned 9. I was recommended this food by a friend who also had a senior dog. Once I transitioned him to this food by itself, I saw an immediate difference. He is eating the food with ease and his digestion/poop has improved completely. Would definitely recommend and I am happy to have found this food!
