This is the best dog food I have used for my and my mother's 5 dogs. I recently switched to Victor and am using a mixture of this and Victor Hi Pro Plus, with some dogs getting more or less proportion of one or the other. 4 of the dogs are Ibizan Hounds ages 1, 6, 7, and 9. The other dog is a 2 year old Beauceron. This food agrees well with all of them and maintains them in excellent condition. I recently graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor in Animal Science and will be getting a PhD in Pharmacology. This food exceeds my expectations in ingredients, price and quality. It has just the right combination of nutrients (maybe could use a bit more fat if not giving fish oil). It helped my moms 6 and 9 year old lose weight from Purina One and my dogs have gained muscle and a bit of weight despite their highly active lifestyle. My Beauceron is my service dog and is almost exclusively fed this food (no high pro plus on a regular basis). His coat looks great and his poop is small and firm. I recently put them on Purina Pro Plan Performance 30/20 because this product became unavailable on Amazon. They looked terrible and had a large volume of stool. I then discovered Chewy and their service is amazing! Just as good as Amazon!

Good high-protein option for my two pit bulls. Gives them shiny coats and good muscle tone. I mix their kibble with cooked ground meat and fish oil. With our first dog (the black female), we’ve tried several brands including Taste of the Wild, Blue Buffalo, and Purina One Smartblend. All of those gave her soft stools to a point the vet had to prescribe those clay powder supplements. I dreaded taking her on walks and having to scoop up her gooey mess off neighbor’s lawns. After switching to Victor last year, her stool quality and appearance improved right away! They are very dark and solid, so easy to pick up. When she had puppies, they were introduced to Victor mixed with puppy formula during the weaning period. Back then I was buying the Active variety for all life stages. I switched to Nutra Pro because of the higher protein as well as larger bag. This 40-lb bag lasts two dogs weighing 50 & 65lbs about 3 weeks (3.5-4 cups daily total for each). Again I do add cooked meat or eggs. Even without the addition, they still enjoy the plain kibble. At first it smelled funny to me—yes my family used to complain lol—but we’ve gotten used to it. Surprisingly their stool does not smell too bad either. So we are really sticking to this brand...highly recommended! Great value, impressive results. Dogs are active and happy and always finish every last kibble! And lastly, every bag arrives reliably in 1-2 days from Chewy :)

We have a (newly) 3 year old female German Shepard that is thriving off this food. We switched from Diamond, and I'm so happy we did. Not only is she much more happily active and burning off her energy more than ever before, but her coat is much more beautiful than it ever has been before. It's soft and shiny. We are just about finished with our first bag and I noticed the change in her coat after about 4 weeks. It took her longer than I thought it would to get used to it at first, but after about a week or 2, she was loving it. The surprising factor of this food switch is that our 13, almost 14 year old, male chihuahua chows down on this food unlike any kibble he has in his entire life. He has always been such a finicky eater. We switched him to a wet food diet about 6 months ago, due to bad teeth, but he LOVES this food, even with his bad teeth. Our 80lb GSP has no issues with eating the smaller kibble pieces. So happy with it!

Is a fairly new product for my dogs and the adjustment is a slow adjustment having to add it in with their old food(Purina Healthy Morsels) and of course they are gassy and so I haven't had the opportunity to have the full effect of just that food. I prefer to have this food and taste of the wild mixed in together and I've noticed that they're not shedding any more and their bowel movements are a lot smaller in size which tells me that they're actually holding more of the food within their system which I'm very happy for. I haven't had any issues with them having an upset stomach so that I'm very happy for and I didn't have any issues with them struggling to eat it. I've also noticed that they've had the proper amount of energy versus sleep ratio and I'm very happy with that. My 1 year old dog has actually lost weight and grew muscle mass instead and that is a bonus my 3 month old puppy has the proper amount of weight and hasn't had any health concerns and is growing perfectly and they both love this food along with taste of the wild so I will continue to use both foods because I like the benefits of both of the foods.

Hello. I have 2 long haired Akitas. Pups ages 8 and 9 months. I Fed them show dog food the breeder makes special for his akitas he has and breeds only show dogs. They are Westminster Judges so the food was good . I ran out at age of 6 months. Thought I'd try wilderness pup food in blue bag. OMG MESSED MY PUPS BADLY. They pooped like 11 times a day and smell was like death... Not kidding. Then I ordered this Victor Select Nutra Pro Active Dog & Puppy Formula Dry Dog Food. HOLY COW. I'M SOOOOOOOOO GLAD I STUMMBLED ONE THE FOOD ONE THIS PAGE. I knew nothing about it. But the protein look fabulous the percentage and all the other%% were fabulous 40lb bag that cheap. My dogs put on so much weight and muscle their stool is firm smaller dark in Maybe 3 A-day . They are super happy pups look amazing. I'm a lifer with this product!!

My dog is an 8 month old pure Siberian Husky. I got him when he was 8 weeks old & from the moment he came home with me I knew something was off with the food he had originally (Petsmart Authority Puppy food). It caused tons of problems and basically ended up bouncing from one food brand to the other without any luck. (He was either allergic to the food or it gave him horrendous diarrhea causing him to lose tons of weight). This food had the highest protein % , and it works wonders. He's gone from 35lbs to 54lbs in a little over a month and half. Feeding him 21/2 cups every morning & night with 2 spoon full 100% canned pumpkin. PLEASE NOTE THOUGH: If given too much of this food to your dog it may give them runny stool due to the very high protein content. You don't need to much honestly. Also I give my dog pumpkin since its packed full fiber & this food doesn't provide too much fiber. Totally recommend this!

I have one extremely picky eater and 2 dogs with very high metabolisms (one of which is also the picky eater and he is also a working dog) Finding a food that everyone likes AND has enough calories while still being both a quality food AND an affordable one can be difficult! I rotate proteins to prevent food boredom and boost immunity. I have no "sensitive" dogs, partly because of this. We decided to give this food a try because of the good ingredient list, great protein and fat ratios and higher calorie count. It was an off the bat hit, even with my picky Service Dog. After a month of being on this food, he has significant body condition improvement with visible muscle gain and no more hip bone and shoulder blade visible (Standard Poodles can be really hard to keep out of the "lanky slim" zone). Everyone enjoyed this food and did well on it. Very happy; this will definitely remain in our regular rotation. We will be trying Victor Professional next.

This food is my holy grail. We were feeding Orijen briefly because my dogs are very picky and were also a little small for their breeds (lab and golden). We quickly realized that orijen was out of our price range (over $80 a bag), so we needed to switch but we did not want to skimp on quality. This food is the perfect solution. It has pretty good ingredients- not the best, but far far far from the worst, and is a great value. The pieces are small (which my dogs like), and they've both gotten to their goal weight on this food. My pups are ages 1 and 2 and they both eat this and we have had no issues with them being anywhere near overweight. They are not insanely active I wouldn't say, but they do get adequate exercise each day. So I probably wouldn't recommend this if your adult dog is more sedentary or seems to be prone to weight gain. But for the average active pup, it's perfect. With this food, salmon oil, sea meal, and some other occasional nutritional add in's, our pups are thriving. This will probably be our permanent food for our girls!

I tried another one-grain, 5-star high protein food, which was great, but at $75.00 for a 26.5 pd. bag, I just couldn't anymore. At $55.00 for a 40 pd. bag of Victor Nutra Pro, which my border-collie/terrier-mix loves, and makes him very energetic and beautiful, I found the right combination of quality and price. I use the Victor chicken/rice wet food as a topper to add more yummies and fat. Yes, his stools are stellar! Can't do a dog-food review without mentioning that! I will update this review after Eggie finishes his first bag!

Dogs have been raised on Raw and Origen. Simply has become too expensive (retired now) and time consuming (Elderly family often need us). Decided to try this based on the excellent reviews. 6 wks in and 3/4s a bag gone, and we are sold on Victor! Dogs love it, no transition and no problems. Shiny coats, teeth seem cleaner? Perhaps because of the size of kibble, no build up of product on teeth. We will be trying the grain free next, more for me than the dogs. They seem to have no problems with the grains in this formula. I love that it is made in the USA!
