VICTOR Large Breed Gluten-Free Chicken & Fish Meal Elite Canine Dry Dog Food, 40-lb bag

I have a 1 y/o Boerboel (along with a 2 y/o Staffie and a 15 y/o Catahoula Leopard dog) and finding a food for our rapidly growing Boerboel that has the correct amount of protein, doesn't cause him GI upset, and doesn't cause his coat to have heavy dandruff and no shine has been an unpleasant processes since the beginning. So many foods caused him to have absolutely awful stools. We tried every expensive and non-expensive brand you could think of that wasn't too high in protein for his developing extra large breed body. We were basically out of food options with the exception of trying raw. I actually love raw (we have done it before for 2 of our other dogs), but the cost would be impossible for a 190 lb dog alone, much less him and 2 other dogs. Despite having tried another Victor formula that did not do well for his GI issues (my other 2 dogs did great on it though), I went back on the Victor website to look at their other formulas, now that I could increase the protein amount in his food after he turned 12 mos. In doing so, I stumbled upon the Classic Elite Canine for Large Breed dogs that had just come out about a month prior. I decided to call the customer service number to inquire about the product and/or see if they had any recommendations given my challenges, which includes his issues, plus the fact I'd like all 3 dogs to be on the same food, if possible. The customer service rep was AWESOME! I didn't have to wait on hold and she was incredibly nice and knowledgeable. She went through each of my dogs, their needs, their prior foods, their breed, age, weight, activity level, etc.... I explained to her that we had found a food that was good on his belly, but terrible for his coat. It happened to be a grain-free fish formula (which our vet did not want him on). The rep pointed out that the new Classic Elite large breed formula was partially fish and partially chicken protein and that it was very likely that his belly would do well on it, if he did well on the other. She then went through how much to feed all 3 of my dogs! She also told me that I could call back as he is growing and getting older and they would recalculate his serving for me. They could not be nicer and more helpful! I ordered a bag of the Classic Elite large breed and man oh man am I so glad I did! All 3 dogs love the food. Not once was there any GI upset with the Boerboel or the other 2 dogs. I didn't even have to do the gradual 10-14 day switch. After day 4 he didn't want the other food and so I just went for it. No soft or runny stools and there is far less stool output too! His coat isn't yet what I want it to be, but I see improvement and figure he needs a little more time for that to catch up. My other dogs have maintained their very shiny coats and had no problem doing a hard switch too. My Staffie is very athletic and high energy with zero fat and all lean muscle, which she has only improved upon! I just signed up for an auto order of this food and am so relieved to have found something that I know is good quality and that all of our dogs will thrive on! Definitely give this formula a try!
