I got this product to review for the chewy rewards program and it seems like a good product. I feel like before I can leave a long accurate review I need to use this product for at least one month if not more. I have a horse that cribs and is stalled because of an injury and will try to give to her to see how she does.

This item comes pre-packaged in packets of servings with smaller horses/ponies getting 1 packet per serving and larger horses getting 2 packets. Instructions are simple and clearly marked on the packaging. It's maybe about a teaspoon worth of powder, so easy to mix into feed for the horses to eat. It doesn't really have a smell, but is supposedly apple flavor. I tried it on three horses with somewhat mixed results - 2 horses definitely seemed more chill after following the serving size per the 3 day course, and 1 didn't seem to be phased. I'd definitely use this product again for the horses I know it works on as it just seems to level them out without making them a deadhead.

My mare was impossible to give shots to when the vet arrived. I tried everything in training and still she would immediately panic when the vets arrived. She would rear, strike shake etc. We were using dormgel which I would give in advance. As she became wise to that it became more difficult and she would be so heavily sedated I would be with her for hours afterwards. My vet came across this product and gave me a free sample to try. It was amazing. The vet walked right in and gave her a shot as if she never had an issue. She still reacted some to a blood draw but vet walked away 5 min and came back and gave a shot with no trouble. This has saved the vets and so much stress. Most important could save her life if she ever needs emergency care. I highly recommend.

I tried all the calming supplements I could find to help my very scared of the world barrel horse. Nothing worked. Even the very expensive products. Now this is. It cheap, but it works. Can you give your horse a single dose the day of an event and expect to see results? No. I’ve played with the dosing to figure it out & here’s what I suggest: If you have an event on a Sunday, start the horse on their first dose on Thursday morning. Give every morning and every night through Sunday night. I really found that the loading dose of three days was necessary. But with that, my dude is cool and happy, shows no signs of agitation in the stall, doesn’t spook at things he shouldn’t, and just seems chill and happy to be at his shows. I now actually give this to even my horses who don’t “need” it if they seem to be excitable or hard travelers. I do believe by calming their anxiety I’m preventing ulcers and just plain unhappiness.

My mare can get more sensitive when she travels to new places, especially after a tire explosion on the trailer that damaged the side of the trailer earlier this year. I administer it as directed, beginning 3 days before we travel and throughout the show. Zylkene takes the edge off so that she isn’t anxious in the trailer or in the stalls as shows. She does not scream when she was alone even when she is in heat, and does not require as much time to be worked down as she does when she doesn’t have it. This also helps to keep her from getting sore and fatigued. While working your horse down is a normal part of competition, working them until they are too sore and exhausted because they get fractious from other horses or scary arenas isn’t realistic or fair to them. I think some users expect a sedated effect where the horse becomes dull, which is unrealistic for a non-sedative product. Zylkene takes the edge off so that the horse can stay focused on what they are doing rather than everything around them. My mare is genuinely quiet and relaxed so that the entire show experience is positive. She’s a picky eater that won’t eat apples, carrots or any kind of horse treat, and there was no problem getting her to eat this with her grain.

I needed a solution for my very anxious retired thoroughbred when I take his buddy out to ride (there are horses still behind with him, just not his bestie). I’ve tried everything and was at my wits end, my next option was sedation from the vet.. I gave him this for a week leading up to hauling his buddy out for a trail ride and the difference was remarkable. Normally my TB is running the fence and screaming to the point he’s going to hurt himself, but he called a couple times when we left and when we returned but that was it! He was calm all day! I did have to give it in an oral syringe with warm water and molasses since he wouldn’t eat it in his feed, but it’s absolutely worth the hassle and the money. I will be continuing to order it and have it on hand for when I’m planning to leave with my riding horse. If it wasn’t so expensive I’d just keep it in his daily diet.

I used the product before and during horse shows. She didn't like the smell at first, but then decided it was O.K. The first day of the show there was a noticeable difference in her behavior, but by the end of the second day it seemed as though it wasn't working quite as well. I do think the product works, but maybe not quite as well as I had hoped.

First off, I have a picky eater, so being able to blend this in with his other grain and supplements is a plus! My horse gets anxious at turn in time, when other horses go in before him and he starts banging his gate. After using this product for a few days, he has quietly stood waiting for his turn. I would recommend giving it a try!

Zylkene worked well for our flighty weanling. She didn’t have much handling prior to getting her and this product really helped take the edge off during stressful times. We were needing to give light sedatives before but this is doing the trick! It is palatable as she’s a picky eater too and it comes in handy packets that are easy on the go! I really wish it was show legal for my competition horses!!

Calm and cool

My vet recommended and I did what the instructions recommended to preload two days prior to the stressful situation. I was having a trainer come to help with loading. A horse that had hauled prior but was getting fearful and refusing dangerously. I noticed my guy taking naps laying down in his run and so it definitely calms. I did ride during a nonstressed day and still found there was energy. The day of the training session and he was high as a kite when he saw his phobia. We worked through it but depending on the situation adrenaline might still trump the calming effect. Think it would depend on the severity of the issue. I also don't think I need to pre-dose two days before as that seemed overkill. I'd recommend. Each horse is unique and it might be a great natural alternative.
