I only feed the neighborhood cats once daily, so can I double the dosage to do this?

Answer by KymmDec 19, 2025
I only give this as a supplement to my cats once per day and it definitely has an impact. Their coats are shiny, their eyes are bright and they are very healthy.

Would it matter if 2 scoops are given once a day verses 1 scoop 2x day?

Is there any difference between L-Lysine and L-Lysine HCL. We have been giving our cat L-Lysince, but I see that Chewy only has L-Lysine HCL.

Answer by ChewyJul 29, 2018
The HCl denotes that the lysine is present as the hydrochloride salt. Salts changes the properties of the lysine, making it more soluble.

Towards the end of the Viralys, there is tan/brown powder. Is this safe to use or should I throw it out?

Answer by ChewyAug 31, 2021
The tan or brown powder is flavoring. It tends to fall to the bottom of the tub over time. It's recommended to shake the tub before every use to keep it mixed.

When I adopted my two Maine Coon babies and brought them home, they sneezes all the time! I called the shelter and asked how do you guys stop kitty sneezing? They told me they use Viralys powder on all the kittens. I bought the immune powder and put a tiny ( it comes with a tiny spoon) bit on their wet food and I was amazed all the sneezes stopped! They do not notice it in their food. I will use this powder throughout their life. The powder is a little expensive but it lasts nearly a year for 2 cats! To me its a bargain!

Hello! My cat’s eyes cleared up in a matter of 2-3 days using this as directed. I am so thrilled. Hopper (orange cat) regularly had a discharge in one eye that compelled me to clean that inside corner more than once a day. It seemed to be getting worse so I tried this. I only wish I had gotten it sooner. I mixed this into her wet food and there was no hesitation. That was my greatest concern because she is so fussy and has turned down other forms of this supplement before. I am continuing its use until I finish this one supply. Hopefully, it does not have to be ongoing, but we shall see.

TLDR: My vet recommended this. I was skeptical, but I'm seeing great results. Results started after 1 month of use. I mix it with a little water then pour it over my cat's dry food, and he eats it right up. They have non-powder versions, but I haven't tried them. This is the cheaper version, and it works great for us. Background: I found a stray with a terrible upper respiratory infection. Over the course of the first year, he probably had 5 rounds of antibiotics interspersed with probiotics, and would get better only temporarily. While he was sedated for neutering, they even investigated for polyps, but we found no reason for him to be so perpetually snotty. This took about a month for me to see any difference, but around 6 weeks in, he was steady with no snot (finally!). I notice on days when I forget to give it to him, bc his breathing gets heavy and sneezy again. The vet says this is part of his regular diet now for the rest of his life, but it's so worth it!

I got a rescue kitten who was eventually diagnosed with having herpes, which made her eyes constantly inflamed, itchy, and caked in crust. Even after six months of good food and care, her eyes were still gunky and would have to be cleaned at least once a day to keep her eyelashes from getting stuck together. The gel viralys worked pretty well and she liked the taste, but the powder allows more consistent dosing. The day after her first two doses, her eyes were clear and the tissue wasn't red. I can also tell she feels a lot better, and it's worth the price considering how long it will last.

I add this to my cats at least once a day (instructions say a scoop twice a day but I can’t afford that frequently at this time). One of my cats especially has a recurring cat herpes that always messes with her eyes and nose. This seems to be helping clear her up! I also have another cat who suffers from a chronic case of the calicivirus and since taking this he hasn’t had any tongue ulcers.

Undiagnosed cat herpes but he has all the symptoms everyone talks about. Nasal discharge is the worst. I've been giving him a scoopful In his wet food 1/day, just to try it out. He eats it just fine but my other cats do, too. I'm going to get the gel to try & be sure he gets the full dose but It seems to be helping. I wish I could thank the person whose review convinced me to try it.

I just adopted my 1yo cat Dec.2025. She had a hoarse almost non-existent meow. She also had a gooey right eye and bouts of coughing. I took her to the vet. The vet said her eye issue is herpes. She then treated her cough with antibiotics and steroids. But in my research I found that herpes in cats can cause sore/hoarse throats, respiratory infections and ulcerations of the eye ball. L-lysine suppresses the herpes virus. Once I added this to her food, her eye completely cleared, her sore throat and cough also cleared. Though steroid did help. I believe her sore throat/cough was also herpes related. Now she is feeling much better but has to stay on L-lysine to keep it away. Great stuff!!

This was recommended by my vet after a surprise visit due to my cat coming down with the Feline cold (sneezing, coughing, lethargic, etc). I was directed to administer one scoop twice a day in her food. My cat eats wet food so this has been very easy, with no fuss from her. Chewy’s price is significantly cheaper than my vets pricing, which I truly appreciate. I would purchase this product from Chewy if needed agin. My cat has been on this supplement for over two weeks, going on three. Over this time, her symptoms have slowly subsided but have not completely gone away. I will continue the supplement, as they do provide relief, but may ask my vet for something different if her symptoms do not completely clear.

I took my kitties to the vet as they all had symptoms of a uri. Sneezing, lethargic and watery eyes. My veterinarian determined it was not something that needed to be treated with antibiotics. A simple kitty cold and suggested this immune booster. Sprinkled on their wet food. They took it easily and their symptoms cleared with 14 days of the Lysene.
