I have a 16 year old CKD cat that was diagnosed 3+ years ago. She's done well on Royal Canin's renal dry and wet diets throughout that time. (Disclaimer that I do work in the veterinary industry and have basic knowledge of the disease. Please speak to your vet if you think your pet might need this supplement.) Her bloodwork a few months ago showed a low-normal level of potassium, but her health has gone downhill over the last month. She was becoming very constipated, just generally looked uncomfortable, and was vomiting more frequently. I started giving her the gel (which to my surprise, my picky cat LOVES) mixed into a bit of wet food twice a day, 6 days ago. I am thrilled to see that every day she's improving and today she's acting and looking like she did a few years ago! She's happily vocal, wants to play, follows me around constantly looking for attention, is walking on her back feet instead of her hocks, has healthier bowel movements, and her appetite is improving. I will definitely be purchasing again when I start to run out.

This product is excellent for treating potassium deficiency in our cat, and we have seen very favorable results in his potassium levels. For long-term use, however, the maple taste and smell is somewhat of a turn-off for both our cat and us. We administer it using an oral syringe so that we know he gets his daily doses. If other users have this experience with maple for long-term use, would it be possible to use a honey formulation rather than maple so there would be less of a smell? Our local vet uses honey for other medications and it seems to be palatable, without strong smell. Regardless, we will continuing to use this product due to good electrolyte results.

My cat was suffering from extreme electrolyte and vitamin imbalance. She was extremely dehydrated, couldn't eat and was very sick. After a 4 day hospitalization and a 3400 dollar bill; it was discovered that all she needed was some Renal K+ supplement and a change of diuretic. Ali bounced back in 2 days. I am the fight of the decade with the Vet hospital about all of this. We begged several times for the supplement before she hospitalized. Cats or dogs may not like it, but it's good for them; just use a syringe. My little 14 year old girl is doing great now.

I have been using this along with another kidney health supplement for my 18-year-old cat who has KCD. These supplements combined have seem to have helped, as he is eating more than he had previously - which is something that I was concerned about. That being said, he absolutely hates the flavor and I have to try to "hide it" in his food. When I tried giving it to him straight up he opened his mouth, shook his head, and it went flying everywhere. Why not make it a flavor cats will more readily accept like chicken, tuna, etc?

My three year old cat who has had UTI issues finally went into what our vet diagnosed as renal failure. She prescribed Renal K+ to see if it might help give him comfort. We anticipated that he would pass away within weeks - that was 5 months ago. We've given him regular daily doses. Not only did he start gaining weight, his energy came back and his fur looks healthy. I have no idea how much longer this will help, but with the time he has left, his quality of life is so much better with Renal K+.

My 16 year old cat has CKD, among other issues, and his bloodwork showed his potassium levels were low. The vet prescribed me this every 12 hours for one month to start. His potassium levels went from 3.3 to 4.2 after one month!! He is now in normal range and won’t need this supplement as much. I see reviews saying their cat wouldn’t willingly lick it so they stopped but for my cat I’d put it on my finger and wipe it on the inside of his cheek for him to eat. He didn’t like that much, but he ate it. It’s worth the extra effort if they won’t eat it willingly! Try it!

Le sigh

My hooman mom bought this for me because I’m in 75% kidney failure and she wants to keep me around longer. It tastes good enough that I ate it without complaining

My hooman mom bought this for me because I’m in 75% kidney failure and she wants to keep me around longer. It tastes good enough that I ate it without complaining. We’ll find out in a couple months if it’s working. If it does, woof! My parents will be so happy! If it doesn’t I’ll join Cooper, Toby, Lionel, Peppermintthehamsteriate, Cinnamon, Brown Sugar, and Strawberry over the rainbow bridge.

He HATES this stuff lol so I have to kind of hold him down and force him to eat it, which I hate doing but this stuff works.

Easiest way to get gel into cats

One of my 14-year-old Burmese brothers has had ongoing kidney issues. Vet prescribed Renal-K and a couple of other things last summer, after three days hospitalization

One of my 14-year-old Burmese brothers has had ongoing kidney issues. Vet prescribed Renal-K and a couple of other things last summer, after three days hospitalization. To be sure the gel actually gets into my little sweetheart, I put him on his back on my lap, gently pry his mouth open, and shoot the gel down his throat from a 1.0 ml disposable syringe. I preload the syringes and have everything in place before attempting the “round-up,” which is the most challenging part of the routine. The 1.0 syringe is skinny and super easy to use on a small (7 lb) cat. If I “offered” gel on my finger or mixed into food, there is little chance of it being ingested. The disposable oral syringe, however, is an absolute sure-fire method. A bag of 100 (with caps so med can be drawn up in advance, if necessary) runs around $14. Money SO well-spent for me! If your cat is not particularly docile, wrap Kitty in a bath towel before placing on back, on lap. Instant feline straight-jacket. I have best results “rounding up,” by preparing everything in advance, preferably out of their sight, then sneaking up when cats are asleep. May sound unsportsmanlike, but it works! By the way, the Renal-K and other Rx’s have Marco acting like his old self, thankfully.

This is gel. Hard to get in the cat's mouth. Solution: Get a 5-mL syringe. Bigger if the cat is over 20 lb. Tap the tube on a hard surface until the product is solidly at the opening, then suction with the syringe, while squeezing product downward. One half teaspoon dosage is about 2.5 mL. If you have trouble syringing, take scissors and snip off a small piece of the tip, making the opening wider. If you have
