Unbeetable Feeds Beet Pulp Low Sugar Pellets Horse Feed, 50-lb bag

I started ordering these from Chewy when my local store kept running out. Beet pulp pellets go further than shreds, and the low sugar is great, too. My mare is 27 and can't chew hay anymore, so I feed about a gallon and a half of soaked beet pulp with a half gallon of senior feed twice daily. One scoop of pellets equals two and a half scoops of the shreds. Plus, there is much less dust when scooping! I will never go back to shreds again. I'm so grateful that Chewy carries these and will deliver with my other supplements for free!

I recently switched from using regular dried beet pulp to the pelleted form because it seemed like a better space saving option since I was newly including it into my horses daily diet. I have used other fiber mash/feeds in the past and know about soaking them so I followed instructions as listed on the bag. I also know that in colder months you may need to wait longer for the absorption but I normally presoaked my beet pulp pellets inside with warm water over night prior to feeding my horse. One day I had forgotten to soak my pellets over night so I presoaked my beet pulp pellets inside with warm water prior like I normally do but waited roughly one and a half hours before feeding. I thought since the instructions said one hour that it would be sufficient to feed. Once I gave it to my horse I noticed it was still partially pelleted but assumed it looked different because when I soak it overnight it essentially turns to a mush (apple sauce like consistency) and again trusted that over an hour was okay. Within 10-15mins of my horse eating the beet pulp pellets he started acting odd. He was acting very uncomfortable, backing up, throwing his head, kicking at his belly, and pawing at the ground. He then started to gag like he was trying to vomit. I wasn’t sure if he was colicing but I knew something was very wrong with him. He started getting very warm and lightly sweating. I wasn’t sure if that was a side effect of his activity or whatever he was struggling with but I immediately put a cooler on him and tried calming him down and slowly walked him. It wasn’t until I stopped him and fluid came out of his nose that I really knew he was choking! I’ve dealt with horses suffering from choke a few times in my life now and it’s always a possibility in situations like this but my horse seemed to be far more uncomfortable than I’ve ever seen a horse! Fortunately because I do have experience with Choke I got to work asap and my horse did recover but it was one of the worst cases we’ve seen in a while!! I’m very very hesitant to feed the pellets now and will not feed them unless they’ve had MANY hours of soaking and are COMPLETELY mush! So please if you feed these pellets, use extreme caution and I recommend soaking them for longer than the recommended 1 hour!!! My horse was up to date with everything and shouldn’t have choked but did so please learn from my experience!

I've been a dedicated horse owner for decades and, like many, I was loyal to a specific brand of feed pellet for years. However, when they recently changed their formulation, I was seriously frustrated,it took double the amount of pellets just to produce the volume of feed I needed. The lack of efficiency was becoming costly and unsustainable. I decided to take a chance on this brand, and I am absolutely THRILLED with the results! These pellets are a true game changer. They expand beautifully upon soaking, creating a generous, voluminous amount of feed that immediately solved my previous pellet to yield problem. Not only am I getting better value and using less product, but the feed quality is excellent. Most importantly, my horses absolutely love it. The palatability is clearly high, and I can be confident that they are getting the satisfying, adequate volume they need at mealtime. If you've been struggling with poor pellet expansion or low yield from your current feed, I highly recommend making this switch.

This WAS my go to feed for all the old horses at our rescue that need to add or retain weight. Some are IR or EMS or PPID. Safe feed when rinsed, soaked, rinsed. We soak so the oldies that are toothless or missing teeth can eat it. HOWEVER, the last several bags we have purchased have had hard, charcoal looking pellets (they don't dissolve in 2 hours either). I notified the sales mgr, the website contact, direct email to the company, AND left phone messages to advise them of the issue. Absolutely no response, nada. Needless to say, we couldn't afford to keep dumping "contaminated" feed - which is what we consider it until the mfgr tells us what the situation is. So, we are now using only Standlee brand beet pulp, which is only a 40 pound bag and takes longer to soften the pellets. But it is clean and we just rinse out the extra molasses. We need a manufacturer who is responsive and cares about the customer.
