Hi, has there been a formula change? The recent order is darker, heavier, doesn't clump as well, and more dusty.

Does this product contain mica?

If I normally buy my regular clumping litter in 40lb bags, how much of this will I need to get the same amount of litter volume-wise?

Answer by ChewyAug 31, 2018
This litter is over 50% lighter. The 8.5 pound jug equals 20 pounds of leading clumping litters. The 12 pound pail equals 27 pound of leading clumping litters and the 17 pound pail equals 35 pounds of leading clumping litters.

What minerals are used in this product?

Answer by ChewyAug 02, 2019
Tidy Cats litter contains sodium bentonite, perlite, and charcoal in it. The lightweight core used in their LightWeight litter is composed of perlite. It is safe to use in consumer products or food. Scooping litters commonly contain Sodium Bentonite, but rest assured, all of Tidy Cats litter is non-toxic, as such, there are no ingredients that are harmful to people or pets. Tidy Cats conduct extensive testing of their litter products, including for dust, and a safety review by a veterinary toxicologist of all materials used in the manufacturing process.

I need to get this out because I genuinely cannot find this information anywhere online, and I wish someone had told me sooner. My cat Lily is 8 years old, otherwise completely healthy, and about two years ago she suddenly developed what appeared to be severe allergies: constant scratching, open wounds, bleeding skin. She was so miserable we had to keep her in a cone for nearly two years straight just to stop her from tearing herself apart. We saw three vets. Including a dermatologist. Every single one suspected food allergies. So we spent two years separating her from our other cat, feeding her prescription hydrolyzed protein food, cycling through elimination diets, and even had her on steroids for some relief. None of it fixed anything. She just kept suffering. Three months ago she suddenly started coughing on top of everything else. This worried me so much and something in my brain clicked on, and I switched her litter from Tidy Cats Lightweight to Dr. Elsey’s Respiratory Relief clumping litter. Her allergies were gone in under a week. Her wounds have fully healed within a month. Two years of my little girl suffering. And literally thousands of dollars in vet bills, medication and prescription diets. And it was the litter the entire time. We have used Tidy Cats Lightweight exclusively since both our cats were kittens. I don’t know if they quietly reformulated it at some point, but something in that product wrecked my cat’s respiratory and skin health for two solid years and not one vet or Google search pointed me toward it, especially cause our other kitty was completely unaffected. If your cat has unexplained allergies, skin issues, or a chronic cough, please also consider your litter.

This clumps so well, but if you feed your cat all wet food so they're super hydrated even if they squat to pee it flicks tiny bits of wet litter up and out of a regular box. It looks like a splatter fest on the box walls. Heavier litter will do this less. But the lightweight litter has less dust, which has been great for my allergies and easy for me to carry with a bad back, so I still highly recommend it. It's just a bit better suited for boxes with high walls or fully enclosed litter boxes.

WHY do these companies LIE? OK, I take it back....the label was not a TOTAL lie. Tight Clumps? Yes. Unscented? Yes, for the most part, it still has a *tiny* odor. However, 99.9% DUST FREE? I should knock off a star just for the fact that you put that on the label, Tidy Cats. That is a blatant, bald faced, LIE! I had dust all the way into my living room, and that was in every house and apartment I lived in. I couldn't tell you exactly how many feet it is here in my most recent apartment, but I should not be getting litter dust even 5 feet from my box, let alone 10 or 15 feet, which would be my guess as to the length, possibly more. I wish I didn't live alone so I could video the amount of dust that flies out of that box every time one of my cats scratch, or I scoop, or I pour some new litter in. It's sickening. I have changed litters and I will never go back. Please change your label. You're hurting our cats.

It is definitely easier to lift and pour. (My husband is unable to lift and we have 11 cats and boxes) The litter is tracked outside the boxes so much, it has made more messes than what the benefits were! We DID get unscented, but the feces smell was certainly noticeable even when all was buried. Forget buying this unless you want to be constantly sweeping EVERYWHERE! Im going back to my regular Clump and Seal Arm & Hammer and will just have to order the smaller boxes which will be way worth my effort to lift! I am SO disappointed Tidy Cat!!!

I have been using this litter for several years once I discovered it. It is lightweight and easy to carry, it has no perfumes and most importantly no dust. The only drawback is that it tracks around the house easier. I have mostly solved that with a step for the litter box that has a great that the litter falls through into the lower chamber. Italso makes it easier for my cat to get into the litter box. My main reason for switching to the lightweight litter was when I had the roll n clean litter box that would come apart inside with normal heavylitter. But I have since changed to robotic boxes and may go back to heavier litter as when my cat steps into the lightweight litter heseems to sink in deeper and doesn’t seem to like that.

The only thing this litter has going for it is it’s lightweight. Despite the litter mats outside our 2 litter boxes, it tracks everywhere. With our vinyl plank floors, we either hear it crunching or feel it underfoot. I try to keep a clean house, but I absolutely do not want to clean up cat litter from tables, furniture and floors every day. I’ve even had two situations where a cat jumped in my lap and smeared litter all over my clothes. The litter boxes are half the house away! And I’ve no idea what one cat does in there, but this litter gets clumped up under his tail. I worry about how it will affect his health if he cleans himself. As soon as I get the cats transitioned to their new litter, my house will get a thorough disinfecting. Thanks Tidy Cat. :-(

I’ve been using this litter for the past 5 months and it’s been a very mixed bag. It seems like the quality control might be kind of off because some times I get a bag with dark grey-brown colored litter and it works beautifully. Those batches have low dust and last around 2-3 weeks before I completely change things. However, probably 70% the time, the litter comes in a lighter grey color. These bags will erupt in a plume of dust. Cat covers her waste? Dust eruption. I scoop? Dust eruption. I have to wear a mask every time I scoop because if I don’t, I’m coughing from the dust for the rest of the week. I have an air purifier by my litter box and even when it’s completely fresh, the air purifier notifies me that there’s a very high amount of pollution when the box gets used. Overall, it’s a solid litter when you get a good batch but when it’s not, it’s extremely dusty.

This is hands-down the worst litter I have ever used. The litter granules get stuck between my cat’s toes and in the fur around his backside after every trip to the litter box, so I’m finding litter EVERYWHERE. I’ve had to vacuum 1-2x daily just to keep up with it. To make matters worse, this stuff doesn’t absorb anything - within about 4-5 days, the clay was so moist that my cat was tracking clay sludge around the house and leaving clay-colored stains on my couch, bedspread, etc. The sludge even caked in-between my cat’s toes so I have to manually wash his paws to remove it. He’s constantly shaking his legs to get the globs off, so I’m finding pee-soaked clay globs stuck to walls and all over my floor. And again - this is all within 4-5 days of use and scooping 1-2x/day. Shame on Purina - this is a terrible product

I’ve tried many different kinds of litter and this one is what I’ve decided on. The weight really makes a difference! I can carry a bag of used litter to the dumpster across the parking lot in just one go, rather than needing to stop a few times along the way like I had to before with regular weight litter. I also like that it is unscented and has minimal dust. The price is also reasonable, which cannot be said for many other litters I’ve seen. I have 2 cats and 3 litter boxes, and getting 2 jugs every 3 weeks on Autoship works well, though I occasionally have to grab an extra one at the store.
