Safe for Bettas and shrimp

I bought one of these for each of my 5 gal aquariums. They are for my betta fish and red cherry shrimp. I have both of the sponge filters hooked up to one air pump

I bought one of these for each of my 5 gal aquariums. They are for my betta fish and red cherry shrimp. I have both of the sponge filters hooked up to one air pump although it's a little tricky to get the air flow correct for each tank when using a single air pump. Sponge filters are unlikely to cause any damage to Betta fins or to cherry shrimp and help maintain the nitrogen cycle. They are super simple to use and don't require replacement cartridges so they're economical as well. They seem to be well made and durable.

These are good for small fish, fry, shrimp, bettas.... I like to use sponge filters as they provide biological and mechanical filtering. They won't suck up small

These are good for small fish, fry, shrimp, bettas.... I like to use sponge filters as they provide biological and mechanical filtering. They won't suck up small animals into a propeller and keep water current in the tank low. It takes a bit longer to get a good bacteria growth going in them but once you do just let them do their thing. It is rare I have to rinse mine but if I do rinse them in a bucket: gently squeeze them a couple times in a bucket with some of the tank water. This will flush out any heavy loads of detritus without killing the needed bacteria. Great for small tanks
