Answer by ChewyJun 10, 2022
This recipe is not grain-free.

What do you use to make the “natural chicken flavor”?

Answer by ChewyJul 03, 2024
The natural flavors used are similar to bullion - it's concentrated, dry broth that's added to enhance the flavors. Stella & Chewys list the specific kind of flavor (i.e. chicken flavor, vegetable flavor, etc.) on the ingredient panel to reduce confusion.

I have three very picky standard poodles who are all over 10yo. They have guts of steel, and are very healthy. I feed unconventionally- free choice feeding, and a different flavor and/or premium brand with every 18-22lb bag. I was impressed by the ingredients in this food and ignored the reviews about diarrhea because I thought it was just other dogs’ sensitivity to new food, because most folks don’t cold change food like I do. But we are not quite 1/2 way through this bag and Pood 1 started having urgent, light colored loose stool, then Pood 2 had four explosive uncontrollable bouts of diarrhea in the house, followed by another day of diarrhea and then Pood 3 had explosive diarrhea, and thankfully made it outside. Pood 3 is 12yo and literally has never had diarrhea in her life. This has all been within a week. I stopped feeding this food and went back to a favorite Acana formula yesterday and everyone seems fine so far. Chewy, please reach out to Stella & Chewys to report all these reviews of their food! Clearly something is wrong with the formula! Will not be feeding this again and am now throwing over 1/2bag of pricy food away because no other dogs I know need to suffer through this!

I've raised my 14 month old GSP on another top rate food, but at about a year old, she grew tired of that puppy formula. Switched her over the Adult Formula of the same Brand, and still a lack luster response. The Wild Red caught my eye, so I ordered the 1 lb bag to try. Oh my, she dove into the small portion I offered her and was looking for more. Haven't seen her this excited about kibble in a long time. It has a nice fresh smell to it, and a smaller kibble size than a lot of other kibbles. Planning to reorder.

I read the reviews, but did try to give this to my Pembroke Welsh corgi. It caused diarrhea. I had to purchase his old kibble and mix about 1/4c into 1.25c of the other kibble to avoid the wet, loose poops. My dog liked the kibble, but what came out the other end was not OK. My corgi is 25 lbs and a sensitive stomach - and we really did give it 60 days. He did not adjust and get used to this. Prob for big dogs or dogs who can handle the recipe. Not for small dogs?

Well I got this cause my Oliver needed something different. But I didn’t know that it would attack the very vowels of my Animal, and he would unleash what I can only describe as something so dead the grim reaper walked away from it. Yea, it gives him horrible gas!! Seven rounds with Tyson would be easier on your nose. He has never had this much uncontrollable flatulence before ever!! And he eats two to three eggs a day with his breakfast. As I stated, he loves the food, as do I, but the gas bro…. I mean wake ya up in the middle of the night type thing. Best of luck.

My Rottweiler and Border Collie/mix enjoyed this. However the kibble is so tiny, a kitten could eat it without choking. It is the first food my border collie would eat other than Orijens or Farmina, but will be going back to these do to the size of kibble and low fat content. Both run with me at least 3 miles a day.

Loved the ingredients list even if the price was a bit over what I’d usually pay. I took the time to properly switch it and my dogs are used to food not always being the same with little issues. Unfortunately this food did not agree with anyone. Dog #1 had the WORST gas I’ve ever smelled for two days and has had explosive diarrhea for 4 days. The keeping you up all night to go outside every two hours kind. #2 went into a pancreatitis flare up for 3 days even with switching to chicken and rice as the majority of her meals. She did seem to level out after 4 days but still very loose stool. Dog #3 seemed to do okay with it for the most part but I just spent an hour cleaning the blow out in her kennel this morning so while I would love to love this food, it is just not for us.

I bought a small bag of this food at the store, and my dog loved it. So, I ordered a big bag and signed up for regular deliveries to save some money. But the kibble in the big bag looked different. At first, my dog didn't want to eat it, and when he finally did, he got really sick. He projectile vomited multiple times, and the smell was so bad I had to wear a mask to clean it. I had to get my carpet and sofa professionally cleaned because of it. Maybe it was just a bad batch, but I'm not going to try it again. I cooked homemade meals for my dog to help his stomach, and I'll go back to buying his food from the local pet store. I also emailed Chewy about it, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I don't want any dog to go through this, so beware of the danger.

Our previous dog food brand started to produce bad batches and made my dog sick, so after researching and trying out new dog foods, this is the one that my Yorkie does best on so far. Her stools are good, her energy levels and coat have seemed to improve after switching to this food as well.

Great stuff

I use Stella and chewy dehydrated patties. I bought this to add a crunch and helps with plaque removal. Oreo loves it. Raw diet agrees with him.

My picky eater loves this food! It’s the first dog food that he actually seems to anticipate meal times and finishes everything in his bowl. I really love the quality ingredients. However, he continues to have terrible gas and occasional diarrhea since we switched to this food over a month ago, which is making it hard to live with him. I was hoping the digestive upset would pass with time but we are going to have to find an alternative
