About Stella and Chewy’s

In 1997, Marie Moody adopted a dog named Stella from a local animal shelter. She soon decided that Stella needed a companion and adopted a sick pup named Chewy, who joined the family and helped forge the company’s history. On the advice of a veterinarian, Marie began feeding Chewy a raw diet to help with his health issues. He quickly recovered, and both he and Stella thrived on their new food. The experience led Marie to pursue her passion for pet nutrition and start her own business—Stella & Chewy’s.

How many patties are in each size bag?

Answer by ChewyOct 12, 2022
The 5.5-ounce bag contains approximately 11 patties, the 14-ounce bag contains approximately 28 patties and the 25-ounce bag contains approximately 50 patties.

Can you rehydrate ahead of time? For example, make a couple of days worth of food at once, and then store in the fridge.

Answer by ChewyOct 29, 2019
Once the freeze dried raw is re-hydrated with water you can put it in a covered contain in the refrigerator for up to two days. After two days we recommend discarding.

How many days would this bad last my 38 lb dog as a complete feed.

Answer by ChewyMay 19, 2018
A dog that is 38 pounds would require 11 patties per day. There are approximately 11 patties in the 5.5 ounce bag, 30 patties in the 15 ounce bag, and 50 patties in the 25 ounce bag. The 5.5 ounce bag would last approximately 1 day, 15 ounce bag would last approximately 2-3 days, and the 25 ounce bag would last approximately 4-5 days.

Overall quality for French Bulldogs

I have litter mate, male and female, four year old French Bulldogs. The female has exclusively eaten Stella & Chewy’s Beef Patties, moistened, along with their kibble

I have litter mate, male and female, four year old French Bulldogs. The female has exclusively eaten Stella & Chewy’s Beef Patties, moistened, along with their kibble added on occasion, since she was six months old! Her brother was switched to whatever my spouse fed our Wired Haired Pointer at the age of seven months, as we had been between homes at the time and he had the “ boy” dogs hanging out with him. The female, Lulubinx has experienced no allergies, doesn’t try chewing her feet raw or rub her ears or coat nearly off, her stool has remained consistent, therefore I found there was no need to add additional pre or probiotics to her diet nor vitamins, or anything “ extra”, (we also have horses on pre and probiotics, the transformation in their overall health has been amazing, a Quarter horse gelding lived well past age thirty thus noting that Stella & Chewy add it to their food was a bonus!). Lulubinx utterly enjoys each meal, licking her plate clean! In fact she enjoys the patties as “dry” treats as well and knows to find her water dish afterwards, which is key if fed patties in dry form. Upon her first visit with a new veterinarian it was noted how well her overall health is: eyes, weight, skin, hair and vitality!!! Her blood work came back perfect! I researched a lot of dog food manufacturers before given the Bulldog’s as new family members and choosing Stella & Chewy has been quite beneficial. Lulubinx’s litter mate brother, Dash was still eating the same diet as our pointer until a few months ago, He WAS chewing all his feet, daily, his coat drier, his nose running, and his stool terribly inconsistent and he’s always looking for more food to eat. Dash eventually ended up being put on antihistamines for the symptoms he was experiencing. He was switched back to the same diet his sister is on a few months ago and was slowly weaned off the antihistamines! The Stella & Chewy diet agrees with his system as it has his sisters for well over three and a half years! I highly recommend Stella & Chewy beef patties especially for French Bulldog’s. I’ve seen the transformation, noting the veterinarian agreed!

My service dog, a 100 lb. Black Russian Terrier named Val had cancer and after his mouth surgery, I had to find a food that supplied the Absolute Best food for him that I could serve mushy and then later dry as he healed and learned to lick up his food again. Stella and Chewy's delivered that and more! I knew he was getting the best nutrition and he loved the flavors! He gained back weight quickly which impressed his doctors! I was so impressed with this and their whole line of products and thank them dearly for providing this incredible product for us when we needed it! While Val lost his battle eventually, I know he got extra time due to the great food he had and his interest in it.... He turned his nose up at most other foods and this was our staple for 6 months and for a 100 lb picky eater, that was saying something! Thank you Stella and Chewy's for giving my Black Russian service dog the best food and Thank you Chewy's employees for being there for us with new soft toys gifted from friends and your exemplary kind customer service! Val and I always appreciated you and he Adored getting your boxes delivered - their arrival was always exciting for him! Kindly, Deb Russell

I’m not sure why my two dogs go "wild" over Stella's Super Beef Dinner Patties, but I suspect it’s because they are freeze-dried raw food, which makes them feel like they are eating in the wild. I was delighted to read the ingredients and see that my dogs enjoy the patties, as this makes my life much easier. Before discovering Stella & Chewy's excellent dinner patties, I spent a lot of time and money preparing their food. Thank you!

I really wanted to not like this food. It's very pricey, and from time to time, the product you receive one month is different looking that the next. Sometimes the patties will be very dense, other times loose and crumbly. I was feeding my 4 year old, very picky, Shiba Inu mix this for dinner each night. He'd get kibble in the morning (to save $) and then 4-5 patties for dinner. He loves absolutely every flavor of this food. He's a slow eater, and doesn't like most kibble, but he eats S&C food like he's been starving in the wilderness for months. Because it was so expensive, I did find a kibble that he'd eat and switched him over to that for both meals. After a few months, he gained weight, he stopped eating his kibble, and his coat started to lose its shine softness. It's back to Stella & Chewy's for us now.

Our super picky Mr. Poodle loves it so I came back to order a second bag, which tells me this must be very good. He is so picky and rarely finishes whole bag of food. Also it doesn’t seem to upset his digestive system. He normally gets upset stomach no matter how gradually introduce new food, but he didn’t have any issues to switch to this food. I hope our dog food shopping has finally over. Fingers crossed.

Our pup LOVES S&C dehydrated raw patties. We actually tried to switch to a (high quality) kibble, and he refused to finish his food. As soon as we switched back to the patties, he gulped down his food and licked his bowl clean. Personally, I also enjoy rehydrating/preparing his food. We're so happy S&C patties are for all life stages and in so many different flavors. We're testing different protein allergies on our pup so we have a lot of options! On top of all that, going out to relieve himself is a lot less on the patties than on kibble, so we know there is real nutrition being absorbed and not the junk being passed through in kibble! We also love all the one ingredient treats and meal toppers!

When we first got Cooper at 6 weeks we struggled to find something that didn’t upset his tummy. The Vet said he was probably because didn’t tolerate the fillers and by products in other dog foods. This stuff is expensive and thank goodness he is a small dog or we couldn’t afford to feed him, but ever since we put him on this he has been fine and that was 3 yrs ago. He only eats it crushed up and dry as he wont eat it wet. I just have to make sure he drinks plenty of water after he eats feeding him this way. Prayerfully this food will give him a long life as expensive as it is.

I have an intact dog that I show. When there is a female in season he starves himself. Even turning his nose up a food he normally enjoys. Then on the recommendation of my vet I bought Stella and Chewy's beef patties. It has turned this probem around. He absolutely LOVES HIS CHEWY'S. On the down side I would love to be able to feed him it exclusively, but because of the cost and his being an 90 lb dog, I have to use it as like a condiment. I crush a couple of them up, add warm water and mix it with his regular food.
