Take it slowly at first

We ordered this food because our nearly 16 yr old cat who has hyperthyroidism was diagnosed with high kidney levels and probable kidney disease. She had lost interest in her other foods and was losing weight. We hoped to interest her in eating to help gain strength to feel better and I'mlearning how important a raw diet is for cats. I should have blended this food with her other at first, but I didn't. I fed the recommended amount for her weight and she loved it! Was thrilled to have it, but she got awful loose stools. After several days of experiments regarding number of pellets, I found she will eat her other food and not have such loose stools if I blend 2 nuggets of this with her Honest Kitchen diet and perfect form additive. Now she's eating about 4-5 nuggets of this a day mixed in her other food, eating 3 full meals( breakfast, lunch, dinner) plus a tiny high fiber kibble serving for snack. Her interest in food is back and her coat is soft and shiny again. Considering I could barely get her to eat 1 full dish of her other food 3 weeks ago, this is a HUGE victory. Plus she's vocal about meals again and trots into the kitchen to watch me make her food. We're very happy to see her feeling better and happier, and we hope to increase her serving of this food over the next month.

My cat has been suffering from IBS for the last 4 months. I've tried ALL the food suggestions from the vet and nothing helped. That's when I decided to try raw. Thanks to a facebook group I'm in that is all about Sphynx cat's, I learned about all the benefits of having a raw diet. I decided to start with the freeze dried because it's so simple. I noticed a difference almost immediately. Before I started with the freeze dried, my cat, who just turned one two months ago, was super skinny because everything he ate went right through him. He spent so much time in the litter box and I in turn spent so much time wiping poop off his feet and sides (his tail would get in it and spread it everywhere) it was no fun for either of us! As I write this, its been almost two weeks since I switched to the freeze dried and my cat is like a whole new cat. I can't see his spine anymore, he's put on a little over a pound, he feels more solid, and his energy has returned and it's all because I switched his food to raw.

My cat, Phoebe, has nasty food allergies and had been on a frozen raw diet for the past several years. She got sick with an intestinal bug last July and has refused to eat the raw food ever since. I'd been feeding her BFF canned food and she loves it, but it wasn't the best thing as far as her allergies go. She was throwing up, her skin was all scabby and her coat didn't look very nice (allergy symptoms). I was given a bag of Stella & Chewy's freeze dried raw turkey to try and she loves it! I love the ease of use and not having to remember to take several meals worth of frozen out of the freezer every day. I just put 5 or 6 pieces of the food in a small amount of water and it's ready in a few minutes. I ordered the chicken and the duck/goose to try and she doesn't seem to like to chicken as well as the turkey. So, I ordered a couple more bags of the turkey for her. She's not spoiled at all :) Her skin is much better and her coat is nice and shiny again. No throwing up, either, which is a wonderful thing for me!

I purchased the Stella & Chewy kibble with morsels and noted that both cats ate the morsels before even touching the kibble. Since I need to take some weight off one of our cats, I ordered a bag of only morsels so I could cut down further on the kibble and increase their morsel intake. It is working, and the fact that they leave some food behind is a good sign they are not pigging out.....except on the morsels. I break them up a little and have not added any water to them....they like them dry. We found a sweet spot.

My 20 year old cat has now been steadily eating all of her meals. I introduced her to this freeze dried raw cat food by crushed some of it over her wet food, then sprinkled some water over and stirred it all together. I did not have to coax her to her bowl. She got up right out of her bed, went to her bowl. Her head went down into the bowl immediately and she licked it clean! I’m looking forward to seeing her eat well each meal now. Also her BM’s are smaller and she adjusted quickly. The food actually smells good while pinching it in my fingers to crush it. She always meows now in the morning for her breakfast where as before she was lackluster about her food and starting to refuse all the dry foods and wet foods that I would present, from expensive brands to fancy feast. That is pretty worrisome for a 20 year old to quit eating. Problem solved. I’ll probably explore different flavors and different ratios of wet food and maybe omit the wet food eventually.

I've held off on this review thinking it would change with each new bag hoping what I received was a fluke. Hasn't, and you can't see the problem until you actually open the bag. By that time, its too late. These are supposed to be whole "morsels". I have the rehydration down pat with the water temperature my 2 senior cats prefer, but if I hand them wet crumbles they turn their nose up at it. They just refuse to eat the rehydrated powder. I understand there is going to be breakage by the sheer packaging and shipping process alone. However, as expensive as this stuff is, it needs to be handled better. Somewhere there is evidently a gross mis-handling of these bags to the tune of being tossed around. Each bag of this last order were half pulverized on the inside. Would I recommend the item? I'm undecided what I'm going to do. My cats enjoy their food when they are rehydrated in to dense morsels. That's the goal. I have 2 seniors and I monitor their health closely for ckd or ibd. Inspect the bag thoroughly and as best you can. I don't know what's going on.

My 17 year old senior kitty has kidney issues and is hyper-thyroid - think "feed me" constantly. She does well if she lasts 4 hours between meals. After that she starts tapping me and then advances to the most unattractive yowling. There have been numerous $$$ expensive trips to the vet which she does not relish. Not sure if the thyroid meds help much, but Stella & Chewy's has made a difference! To help combat the thyroid hunger issues, I found out that I needed to add more protein to her diet and that free-dried might be a solution. It includes nutrient-rich organ meat which is good for cats. I re-constitute it with water so it has a gravy consistency. So far so good and she seems much more content! There is a lovely added bonus - less smelly poops! I alternate the Stella & Chewy's and Hill's kidney wet food for her meals and have completely dropped kibble. Bella agrees!

I was skeptical about freeze dried food but I'm so glad that I decided to try it. I purchased this with the intended use as a food topper/mixer. I use it when I give them their rehydrated food ( kibble mixed with water). I either give them 1 nugget each that is broken and sprinkled on their food or, I split one nugget between the 2 of them. Even though this food is pricey, using it that way allows me to give them a little extra love without spending a fortune. I have only tried the Chick Chick Chicken and my cats love it as a little extra flavor on their food. It also does not have any strong smell like you would expect. Love it! P.S. I recommend to keep them in an air tight jar!
