I used to feed Taste of the Wild and when it got to be SO DARNED EXPENSIVE and our dogs ended up going from beautiful to suddenly pokey and dull haired, I became very unhappy and decided to look for a better deal. I came across this dog food and looked it up on my trusted “Dog Food Advisor” website and read about it and read the reviews from several different websites. I was hopeful for a decent outcome from it and decided to try as when I purchased TotW I got 28lbs for $68 and with this I got 40lbs for $54. That is quite a savings. The biggest complaint I saw was that the Beef flavor was a bit greasy. I laughed at those people as if you want to see a dog happy with his food, give him food covered in tallow. It is GOOD for them and they know it. Our dogs will actually pick through the chicken to get to the beef on the occasion when we mix it up. A year in now and my dogs are back to being soft-haired and glossy coated. Their energy levels are great, my 53lb 8yo female eats 2cps per day and maintains her girly figure. To aid our 1yo rescue to come back from starvation, we feed him 6cups per day and that was 8cups. He should be 75-80lbs and was 53.7lbs when we rescued him. He has come back beautifully on this diet and is looking beautiful and muscular today. If THEY love the tallow and it is healthy for them and their coat, I am absolutely happy to deal with it. It is all about THEM after all. I absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants to feed a grain-free food for less than a caviar budget. Your dogs will most likely thank you. (Especially for the greasy beef flavor) Throw in a RAW bovine femur KNUCKLE for them to eat and they will be VERY happy campers with clean teeth and virtually no chewing of YOUR things. My dogs’ teethe are pearly white at 7 & 8yrs old and they have never gone to the vet for a cleaning. Boy is THAT a huge financial savings.

It is an all stage food because Every important ingredient for our breed is in this food! It has a great protein/fat ratio 32/25...it has 435k/cals per cup accommodating an active lifestyle...it contains a good percentage of both joint health ingredients.. as well as DHA which helps w brain development especially in pups...it also is a grain free food containing vegetables and fruit...also it contains a small percentage of krill meal which is very good for them....we did our hmwk and matching price with all these ingredients and percentages its hands down best food for about $1lb ...which is very hard to get a good food containing and matching these numbers...best kibble for breed for now.

Great Price for High Protein Grain-Free Food & Dogs LOVE It!

I was looking for a high quality grain-free kibble that's high in protein (minimum 30%), low in carbs, contains no objectionable ingredients, and is made by a company

I was looking for a high quality grain-free kibble that's high in protein (minimum 30%), low in carbs, contains no objectionable ingredients, and is made by a company with no history of recalls. There's no shortage of foods that meet those criteria—if you're able to spend $2-3/lb (or close to it), but I was hoping to pay no more than $1.30/lb. We had been feeding our German Wirehaired Pointers Victor Hi-Pro Plus, which is not grain-free but was otherwise a great food, but then they changed the formulation to include blood meal, a slaughterhouse by-product from unknown animal sources that's used as a cheap protein booster. "Mystery meat products"—ingredients that don't specify what animal they're from—are controversial and typically found in low quality pet foods. Time to find a new dog food. I'd never heard of SPORTMIX before but the high protein content and great price of the CanineX Chicken Meal & Vegetable Formula got my attention, and research revealed that their food is made in the US and they've never had a recall. This formula has the highest fat levels I've ever seen in a kibble; our previous kibble had 20% fat, which was already higher than most, but this has 25% fat content. Wow. Given that its protein content is 32%, that means carbohydrate levels are very low. Some of the fat comes from krill meal, which is why this kibble has excellent omega-3 essential fatty acid levels (more than triple the omega-3 EFA content of our previous kibble); krill oil is a popular omega-3 EFA supplement. Our dogs are pretty active and tend to lose weight easily so a higher fat kibble suits us fine; they're 65-75 lbs and eat 4 - 4 1/4 cups of this a day to maintain their weight. The one thing that gave me pause about ordering this food is the reviews that said it has a strong smell and their dog didn't like it, but I decided to give it a try anyway. I am so glad I did. As soon as I opened the Chewy's box, our dogs tried to tear into the bag! It does have a pretty strong fish smell due to the krill meal, but our dogs absolutely love it. Even our picky girl is jumping up and down when I open the bag (which is unfortunately not resealable). We'll definitely order this again. Highly recommended!

Never going back

I own a large (~90lbs) male chocolate lab and he is often used for sporting and hunting and is out with me every day working the farm. We knew when we purchased him from his breeder that he had stomach sensitivity and recommended that we feed grain free only. We went through probably six different kinds of food before we finally found CanineX. We first fed the beef meal which is a little lower in protein, but eventually settled on the chicken meal and it’s safe to say we will never go back to any other kind of food! It took him a little bit to adjust to the new food thanks to its strong fishy smell but now he eats it up faster than we ever expected. I usually cut the food with some warm water and let it soak for about 10 minutes before feeding and it seems to slow him down. We are feeding so much less now too! A 40 pound bag lasts us well over 6 weeks and you can’t beat the price. Grain free is absolutely the way to go for any performance dog! Dylan says thank you CanineX!

I’ve gone through several brands of dog food looking for something affordable, yet also if higher quality for my dogs. When I switched to this, their skin and coats had a glow up. The sheen in their coats is more visible and their eyes sparkle more. My Aussie also has a hard time keeping weight on and this was a high protein kibble she actually likes! Keep up the good work! Pic of my Border Collie/Aussie jst to show how beautiful she is from this food

decent food but wholy oil separation

My dogs do like this food, and the ingredients are good, my only complaint is how greasy this food is. It has nothing to do with the actual fat content, it has to do with the type of fat that they use, because it separates from the kibble and then pools at the bottom of the bag. It is quite a mess. I have purchased bags of this and stacked them up, and there is a huge pool of oil on the floor all around these bags. And when you open the bag and dump the food out, oil is just running all over your hands, the floor, and your food container. I’m not sure why their formula of dog food has problems with oil separation. I have purchased other sport mix brands, and the oil separates from them as well. But the canine X has the worst oil separation. I wish they could fix that. Because it’s really quite a nasty mess.

My girls were on this food for a couple of years before I really think they just got tired of it. I have a pit and a catahoula, both are almost seven and slowing down a bit. The performance formula probably really isn't necessary any more so I am going to transition them to Nutro 7+, still a great food and a great price to be grain free but steer clear of the beef!

I have two pit bulls one of them a bully I’ve tried SO many brands of food for them and nothing agrees with them more then the sport mix caninex I have two big dogs who get two cups for breakfast and two cups for dinner sometimes 3 cups for dinner and a 40lb bag lasts them a month. I’ve been traveling 20 minutes away for this food for a couple years now because no stores have it until I found chewy! Now I’m on auto ship I ordered Friday morning and after a big snow storm Saturday morning it got here Saturday at 10 can’t believe it. Both chewy and this brand are AMAZING

No longer a good brand

I had been buying this food for a while. I recently realized that they had changed the formula. The new formula is not nearly as nutritional as the old formula was on top of the fact that I believe it is making it increasingly more greasy and here. Recently the last bag I bought had white granules all throughout it. I don't really trust feeding it to my animals. Anymore, so I'm going to be switching food brands and wouldn't recommend this to anyone now that they have changed the formula to cut costs. I suppose, also on top of the fact that heart disease may now be linked to grain free foods.I do believe that it would be time to make a change anyway.
