I was urged to find and feed my blue female Doberman the highest quality food from the start to ensure superior results from know issues with coat and skin. My dog is a fully trained Service Dog with well over 500 hours of formal training at a cost of $20k+, she works and plays very hard, every day. I can't afford to take chances with unknown, cheaper options. She loves this food and I mix it by hand with other high nutrition ingredients like ,boiled skinless chicken breast, steamed sweet potato's, steamed long grain, germinated brown rice, I can feel the oils and quality texture. Proof is in the pudding, at 4 years old, she is a specimen that gets her breeder smiling from ear to ear anytime we visit. The only problem is that fewer and fewer stores carry it, so in a pinch it's getting harder to find. However the stores have different goals than I do. They are looking for maximum sales volume and profit margins and I am only seeking superior, second to none nutrition values. I order on line and have it shipped to my door, problem solved. Chewy is my go to provider for the highest quality.

My dogs have been on solid gold since they were puppies. We’ve had no issues. About a year or 2 ago, we switched to this formula because the other got discontinued. I’ve had no complaints except for the last bag we got. I open the bags and dump them directly into our closed food containers. I was halfway through the container when I discovered 2 dead flies. There’s no way they got in there while I was dumping the bag, so they had to have come from when it was packaged. I’m grossed out, but my dog seems to be doing okay with this bag.

New food for Baby Whit

i am hoping this will work out for my beautiful basset that has issues with crystals in his urine. he does love it at this point. I will be retesting him in six wks to be sure this food is working ok with his issues. If it does i might be putting my other basset, Maggie, on it as she has issues with her Ph for her urine also. I was told about this food by a lady that is a breeder and has used this food for 15 yrs. she said there have been only one recall and it was not due to anything that happened to the food but due to a possible issue. that makes me feel good about using it. so many dog foods have recalls.

The 1st bag ordered was good. This one smells good, but is all busted up because it was shipped in a lg box that could’ve held 3 to 4 bags. Shipping items this way is busting up the food and my dog like eating crumbs. So I’m spending $70 on 25 pounds. I’m throwing about 5 pounds away because the bottom is all busted up.

Our 2 large Golden Doodles love this food and have been on it since puppyhood. Ages 4 and 8 and both are in excellent health. The cats try to steal their kibble and every dog we have over to sit for family prefer this food to the kibble that gets sent with them. No complaints from us!

I really, really had high hopes for this food

One of my English cocker spaniels has a gallbladder issue and he’s only 20 months old. The vet internist he’s seeing recommended we put him on a low fat diet, 10% or less, to help his gallbladder process his food better. I really wanted Solid Gold Hund ‘n Flocken which seems like a good quality food to work for us, but after almost two weeks of gradually adding it to his old food, he still has had diarrhea every single day. After remembering a similar problem last summer with Canidae changing their formula and adding peas, causing both our cockers to have diarrhea and making me have to switch to Purina Pro Plan, I’ve finally figured out it’s the peas in the Solid Gold formula that’s causing it. So I pulled him off it today and put him back on his Purina Pro Plan until I can find another low fat dog food. I’d keep him on PPP, but the fat content is too high at 16%. Research is showing me that waaaay too many companies are using peas in their recipes. Why? Well, obviously peas push up the protein content of the food so they can use less meat. I use The Dog Food advisor website for a nutritional breakdown of every single dog food I’ve ever fed my cockers and that is the consensus they’ve also reached about why so many companies now put peas into their formulas. More dog parents are finding out the hard way that their beloved dogs are having difficulty processing certain new ingredients in their dog food which to me is maddening. Ditto for all the soybean products and canola oil many dog food manufacturers are using today. Solution? Contact the dog food companies and ask that they remove these questionable ingredients or else you’ll have to switch to another dog food that doesn’t have them. Dunno if it’ll help, but we’ve gotta try something before we all have sick fur babies everywhere. Oh and one more thing, FedEx has been leaving my Chewy deliveries out in front of our garage to get rained and snowed on instead of on the front porch where the boxes are out of the weather. I called Chewy and reported the issue and then spent over an hour on the phone to FedEx requesting their drivers leave our boxes on the front porch like they have done for the past 12 years we’ve had Chewy deliveries. A couple weeks later the driver is now putting them on our front porch. Sometimes it does pay to call and complain. Just gotta be polite and persistent about it.

After two years of trying to find the right diet for my boxer, I found this food on sale at a local pet store. The holistic ingredients contained immediately changed his sensitive stomach. No more accidents in the house from constant upset stomach. The size of the pieces are not super small, but my dachshund still likes to sneak bites when he isn’t looking :)

I'm torn between the fact that I like this food, but all 3 bags I've received have had a hole in them. As far as the food goes, it seems good. My dogs enjoy it and they have good poops. As for the bags, the first one I got had a small hole in the side. Chewy sent me a replacement, and that one had a hole too! I decided to just keep it as we needed food and we were leaving town for a week, and I didn't want to put responsibility on the sitter to get more food. The dogs seemed good, so the food wasn't spoiled. I decided to get a third bag once we ran out, and that one had a hole in the side too!! There was also a little green beetle in the box. Not sure if that was cause of the food or it just got trapped in the cardboard box. Anyways, I don't know where all these small holes are coming from. It's causing me to lose trust in this particular bag of food. I think Chewy needs to check their bags a bit better, and handle them with more care. For the mean time, I will be ordering our previous food, as I never had hole troubles there.

Have 2 blue heelers one of which has been fighting some kind of yeast allergy albeit she's been on 3 excellent foods. Her itching is slowing down on this product. I've reduced the medications and hoping we've found a solution. Lucy (yes, for I Love Lucy) loves the food as well and is doing great!
