SmartPak Smart & Simple Psyllium Pellet Horse Supplement, 4.4-lb bag

We've traditionally used plain Metamucil as part of our monthly sand-clear routine, so I was interested in trying a horse-specific psyllium product as an alternative. Before using it, I checked with our veterinarian. While she still prefers plain psyllium products without additional fillers, she felt this was an acceptable option to use, which gave me confidence in trying it. The pellets were easy to measure, mixed well with feed, and were much more convenient than dealing with a powder. Two of my horses cleaned them up without a second thought. The real test, however, was our old man. He approaches new feed items with extreme skepticism. His usual strategy is to turn his ancient head away and hope the offending item disappears on its own. He conducted a thorough inspection, considered his options, and eventually decided the pellets were acceptable. Once he committed, he cleaned up his feed without issue. As with any sand-clear product, I can't personally measure effectiveness, but from a feeding and convenience standpoint, this was easy to use and well accepted by my horses. I'll probably continue using plain Metamucil as my primary sand-clear supplement based on my veterinarian's recommendation, but this was a convenient, horse-friendly alternative that fit easily into our routine.

My horses don’t mind the taste at all, and I have one horse that is pretty darn picky with feed supplements. We live in FL and unfortunately our pastures have sand as “dirt”, so I was looking forward to using this. I have never given any supplement to specifically clear out sand from their gut, but they do have alfalfa several times a day, so I’m sure that helps. But giving them this at least gives me more peace of mind that they won’t colic. Will add to their rotation permanently.

I have been struggling with my senior mare having FWS. The vet suggested psyllium daily. She has had her teeth floated and they are pretty worn. I have tried several products with short term improvement. Since doing the initial 7 day cleanse and adding the psyllium pellets daily she has had very significant improvement. The pellets are easy to add to her feed. Overall I am very happy with SmartPak psyllium pellets.

I live in a area that is mostly sand. Psyllium has been proven to assist i removing the sand from the gut. I fed this to my horse for 7 days and he acts like he feels better. The first feeding he was apprehensive of the flavor, but after the second feeding he seemed to eat it fine.
