My vet recommended Sentinel when my Lab puppy went in for his first physical exam and so we have been using it faithfully each month for nearly one year. He gobbles up the tablet without any problems (though he is a Lab, he will eat anything). No side effects. Even though I know that some people take breaks during winter months, we have some warm spells here in Massachusetts and we give Ned his Sentinel even in winter months. We had an extremely wet and swampy summer last year and surrounding towns were battling serious mosquitoes (EEE) with crews spraying regularly. I'm happy to say that Sentinel has been the perfect protective barrier for Ned - I would never risk it! Also, shout-out to Chewy because not only do they have awesome prices for this medication, they are very quick about getting prescription approval from the vet which saves me time!

With our first golden Retriever 34 years ago, fleas were such a problem. He endured all kinds of treatments, I got to be an expert setting off flea bombs in our home, then we tried Sentinel, not a flea since. Bubba, Chubbs, Bisket, Baron, now Casper have not had any fleas. Great stuff.

Chewy.com goes above & beyond any online retailer I have ever ordered from. They always get to you whatever you order very quickly and keep you informed every step of the way. In addition there is very minimal prompts to get to a live person when you need to call, and no long irritating wait times! Ever! And their Auto-Ship for medication and/or vitamins is awesome as well. I never have to worry about not having my babies’ heartworm prevention when they are due for it. Thanks Chewy!

Seems to work with no adverse effects

I've been using Sentinel since it came out, replacing interceptor. At the time Interceptor was not being made at all, so I had no choice but to use this. However I checked the added ingredient, lufenuron. It had no toxicity to mammals, as opposed to Trifexis, which added spinosad. Both of these products also have Milbemycin oxime as the antihelminthic. Spinosad had low toxicity to mammals. So I chose Sentinel. It seems to work by destroying the chitin in biting female fleas. Since I live in a situation where we don't have as many flea encounters as others, I cannot say exactly how effective it is. I CAN say we have spent lots of time in outdoor parks, and we live in Lyme central, so I keep free woods time to a minimum anyway. With those limitations, I assume I can only provide good feedback in terms of any adverse effects, since so many dog owners seem to fear those. We have had none. My dog is a 52 lb Australian Kelpie.

Molly has been on Sentinel since I adopted her in Oct. 2013 from the Humane Society. She had "happy" fleas on her, even though the rescue had given her a couple of flea baths. Raced to my vet, and he put her on Sentinel. At some point I discovered you. She has been flea and worm free since with the exception of hookworms once. She will eat anything outside. Oy.

It helps arthritis

My 10 year old catahoula mix was diagnosed with arthritis about three months ago. She was having a lot of trouble getting up, going up stairs and walked very slowly. It seemed like it happened suddenly, but the Dr said the x-rays showed bad arthritis, so I guess it must be. I am too scared to give Cox inhibitors due to the possibility of liver or kidney damage, but my girl weighs 110lb and so I have to keep her walking on her own as long as possible. Galliprant has these potential side effects too, but it works further down the chain than the Cox enzymes, inhibiting one called E4. This is more specific and can help maintain the mucosal lining of the digestive system better than inhibiting Cox enzymes. She has been taking it for one month, then a two month pause, now six weeks more. She is able to get up a little more easily, as long as she doesn't have too much activity. She also is able to put a little more weight on her right back leg, which is the worst one. It's not like she is now running around, but she is no longer limping on her front legs, which apparently were taking most of her weight before the drug. At first she had some signs of acidy stomach a few hours after taking it but not now. I just wish it were more affordable. The literature shows it is more effective on an empty stomach, but that was not on the label when I got it. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and did my own research, so everyone needs to make their own decisions not just based on my information. If you use it, get a baseline kidney and liver test and then monitor as recommended by the Dr.

I have used this product for many years and I feel that it is fairly innocuous, having had my large dogs live healthy lives into their late teens. I have never had a flea problem and this is the only product I use for fleas. My cats do not have fleas either, because the dogs are on Sentinel. I get both dogs tested for heartworms each year and always a clean bill of health. Matrix is my oldest at 13 and she has been taking Sentinel since she was 10 months old. She is a very healthy senior, all of her bloodwork is perfect.

Protect your Fur Babies from Parasites

I can say this is my choice in parasite prevention for my dog. For those saying their dog still has fleas, this product does not kill or prevent fleas from getting on the dog. The medication in it simply prevents fleas from reproducing. So, if you have fleas in the dog’s environment, you need to treat it with a secondary adulticide, as well as treat the environment. If there are no fleas in your dog’s home environment, but it happens to pick one up while out on a walk or something, this product will help that or those fleas not turn into thousands. Environment control is a must. What fleas you see on your dog are only 10% of what are in the actual environment.
