I have and English Bulldog who has had GI and yeast issues from the start. We were taking him to the vet about every 2 months because he'd get horrible diarrhea. The vet said he may be sensitive to the protein in the food, so we tried changing the type of protein...didnt help. Talked with the vet and what our options were and decided to give hydrolyzed food a try...and what a difference. He BM's have improved greatly and even his wrinkles and rope don't have yeast in them...it has all cleared up. And we had tried EVERYTHING (including prescriptions from the vet) to clear up the yeast. Who knew changing his food was the cure.

They changed the formula. For about a year my dog was getting inflamed eyelids. And the veterinarian/Animal dermatologist told us it was an autoimmune disease. We couldn’t figure it out. He living on prednisone for about a year. I noticed that he was itching and scratching, but we thought this was the best we could do terms of food because he’s allergic to everything. I asked the vet veterinarian if we could switch his food and ever since we switched his food he has not had blepharitis. We can’t even believe that this worked. Changing his food was the reason he is now better. They tried putting him on Atopica, apoquil, prednisone for the rest of his life. As soon as we went to take him off, it would start up again. It was the food Since we took him off, we started cooking food for him at home. It’s been the best thing ever. The animal dermatologist and the Animal eye doctor told us that it was an autoimmune disease, and it would never go away. She even said I’ve this and this is a lifelong disease. And when we tried everything and nothing was working because we didn’t know it was the food. She said I would like to be proved wrong and we couldn’t believe it. It was the food I’m writing this review in case else is going through this. It was a nightmare, and by the grace of God, he is fully healed. When they say that everything starts from the gut, it’s so true.

STAY AWAY The New Formula Made My Dog Very Sick

I’ve trusted this brand because my dog has severe allergies, but after they changed the formula, everything went downhill. For two months she was vomiting, covered in hives, scratching nonstop, and her ears, skin, and eyes were inflamed. We went through emergency vet visits and new meds with no improvement. When I finally stopped feeding her this food, she got better within a week, but where I ran out and was waiting for her new shipment, i I gave her a little bit of the old food again while waiting for her new food delivery, and she immediately became inflamed and uncomfortable again panting and itching nonstop. That confirmed it. It’s heartbreaking that a company I trusted made a change that hurt my dog so badly. Please stay away until they fix this formula. It’s not worth the risk to your dog’s health.

My pup is a staff/pit mix and every six months he would have horrible gastro issues; bloody diarrhea, constant loud stomach noises, no appetite. We finally decided to try this food per our vet. We were skeptical due to the price, but it has truly changed our lives. No more vet bills, meds, stomach pains. He loves it! He also only has the HP treats as well and is not allowed any other food/treats. Highly recommend!

Both of our German Shepherds have food allergies. It's a nightmare finding something they can eat w/out leaving them scratching & biting at their skin. Dry & canned food says one thing on the bag & another on the label. I always have to be very careful w/ everything they eat. Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein is a staple for both of my dogs & I never have to worry about feeding them this. If you have a dog w/ food allergies, look no further!!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointed

Our 8 yo Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has been on this food for over 3 years. It was going great, she was eager to eat, until this current bag we received in December (maybe the previous one received around September, can't remember for sure). But now it has taken quite a bit to encourage her to eat. It wasn't until I started digging and researching more that I realized several others seem to be having reactions to the latest bags of food. I don't know what changed; we've already tossed the previous bag once it was empty, but our dog can tell something isn't right. We believe she has a poultry intolerance, and this food was working, but now that she's reluctant to eat, we are off to find a new food. I did try reaching out to RC about this issue, but they said that because the batch code on the bag was not legible (part of it didn't appear to print properly), they couldn't look into it any further. That's really disappointing.

I recently noticed the formula was slight different but this past bag was VERY DIFFERENT. My dog has been eating this food for years and completely demolishes her food no problem until our recent shipment this December. She wasn’t finishing her food like before and was throwing up out of nowhere. Luckily, I still had a little bit of the previous bag so I compare the old & new batch. It’s bigger and more yellowish. I’m very disappointed in Royal Canin! We will be switching to another brand.

Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein dog food is honestly the only dog food my 200 lb. Newfoundland, Sampson, can eat. if Sampson eats anything other than this food he instantly has allergic reactions. Sampson's ears are the very first indicators that something is wrong if he ate something that had any type of poultry protein in the food. His ears turn so red they are almost purple and they got so hot to the touch. They were not infected but they were so irritated and were having an allergic reaction to the protein in the chicken. He would scratch at himself under his front legs (like his armpit area) so much that hair does not grow there anymore) and that too would be so rea and hot. He could not stop licking his feet and you could see under the fur and between his toes how red the skin was and that area too was so hot to the touch. My big guy was so miserable. The veterinarian gave him dog allergy meds and that did nothing for him. Then the vet decided to start allergy testing him by the food I was feeding. I only fed him Science Diet puppy food. The vet told me not to change foods because then it would be harder to nail down if it was food or environment or whatever else could be causing the allergy issues. As the vet observed Sampson she suggested that he start on Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein dog food and to feed him absolutely nothing else. Sampson stayed on allergy meds and the new dog food and was better in days. It was determined it was the poultry/chicken in the dog food that was the culprit making Sampson have allergic reactions to his Science Diet food. Very glad that veterinarian was familiar with the fact that poultry/chicken protein is the number one reason a dog has. allergy issues with food (not grains), and that she prescribed Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein dog food for Sampson. Sampson will have ear flare-ups and. itchy feet from time-to-time but those are from environmental issues; trees, grass, etc. as he does get itchy and has issues with some of those things when spring is coming and when fall is coming (but who doesn't right)? Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein dog food made a hue difference in Sampson's life and stopped me from worrying so much about my beautiful boy, Now, if we could just get Royal Canin to drop their prices it would definitely be the most perfect dog food in the world!

I have 9 year old golden retriever that has always had skin alergies. We have tried everything from vitamins to fish oil even bathing him 3 times a week with medicated shampoo. You name it we have tried it. I did some research and asked my vet about this dog food. I knew it is very expensive but not anymore than I had been spending. Hank has been on this food for 3 weeks today and what a difference it has made. He still has a few skin problems but nothing like he was and no longer smelling like corn chips. Wish I would of asked the vet about changing his food years ago.

I have a Bernese mountain dog who had terrible health from 3 months to about a year old. She was at the vet every other week for episodic vomiting with multiple overnight stays, she developed a terrible cough that almost developed into pneumonia, allergic reactions on her paws, consistently soft stool etc. It just seemed like she had a terrible immune system. I tried Purina Pro Plan and the Lamb and Rice science diet to help her stools/vomiting in suspicion of a food allergy. Neither made much of a difference. She had biopsies taken at 9 months from her GI tract when she was spayed and was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease. Since then, her vet has had her on the Hydrolyzed Protein diet by Royal Canin (treats + food, nothing else!). Her health took a 180 and I haven't had to take her to the vet for anything but a regular check-up since! The food is expensive, but it's cheaper than a vet visit, and she's been healthy for almost a year now. So thankful we were recommended to this brand/food. She will be on it for life!
