this is my first time ordring and using coco chips from reptichip for my ball python me and my husband got our boy a few months ago and we got him with two bags of the loose chips witch are nice but I have to use about 1 1/2 bags our boy since him and his enclsoseuer are so big but over all we love the compact we only used 1/4 of the block for his deep clean we soaked it and it was great we didn't soak the whole block and just broke it appart I also haven't had Any issue with mites or bugges while using reptichips so I haven't had to bake it first witch is nice to not add an extra step

I was really struggling with humidity in my ball python's enclosure until I started using this compressed substrate, before I was using exoterra bagged cocohusk. I added 5 liters of water to the compressed brick and I was able to hold humidty above 60 to 70 percent for about a month and I could probably make it last longer if I poured water in the corners more consistently.

If you’re thinking about trying RetiChip for a snake that eats live rats or mice, save your money I’m honestly disappointed with it. The biggest issue is that live feeders will burrow straight into the substrate, hiding from your snake. Rats and mice dig tunnels instantly, and it becomes a hassle trying to get them out while your snake is in feeding mode. It’s unsafe for the snake, annoying for you, and just makes the whole process more stressful. Another problem: RetiChip does NOT stay moist at all. No matter how much water you add, it dries out fast and creates a very dry environment. Don’t believe the hype online about how well it holds humidity it doesn’t. I tried everything, and it still left the enclosure dry and dusty. Overall, if you feed live or you’re relying on good humidity, RetiChip is not worth it. There are better, more reliable substrates out there.
