Questions & Answers

What type of good bacteria is provided in this?

Can this be used as a bribe to get cats to eat raw food?

Answer by ChewyApr 23, 2018
This supplement is not meant to entice your cat to eat a certain food. It is intended to be a digestive aid, supplying the healthy microorganisms needed for good digestion.

Weill this product do anything to help with a furball issue?

Answer by ChewyMar 23, 2018
Probiotics and enzymes help maintain a healthy digestive system and helps to prevent any potential diseases of the digestive track. They will also help your cat pass any undigested food that tends to attach to hair sitting in the digestive track, thus helping him pass hair before it becomes a hairball.

What's the shelf life on this product please?

Answer by ChewyAug 28, 2018
The shelf life of FortiFlora is 18 months from the date it was manufactured. Refer to the "Best if used by" date on the package.

My 18 year old cat had unformed stools for more than a month and everything my vet offered either didn't work or the cat won't eat so I tried this with my vets approval. Well my cat wouldn't eat this either but the vet gave me feeding syringes and I mix the packet with little water and force feed a packet a day. Within 3 days there was improvement. I tried every other day but that didn't work out as well so I'm continuing with the one a day for now.

My cat has been taking theophylline for her asthma which has this bad smell, which translates to her litter box later on. This probiotic not only helps to mask that smell, but it also entices her to eat her wet food more, preventing constipation from dehydration. My other cat also just started using it for his tummy upsets! Thank you!

This seems to have absolutely zero effect one way or another on my cats. For a little over $1/packet, that's already not worth it. One of my cats absolutely loves this stuff though and comes running when she hears me open these packets. So I still buy them on occasion as a very expensive treat for her. I can't recommend these to anyone because they don't work for the intended effect, but I will give 2 stars because these make my cat so happy. And as cat parents, that is so valuable.

Vets will recommend this product for diarrhea in cats to help rebalance gut bacteria. However, after stopping giving this to my cat (who had chronic diarrhea for a year) and exploring the food allergy route, I quickly learned this was contributing to the diarrhea. It contains "liver flavor" which I'm presuming is derived from chicken. That's no good for a cat with a poultry allergy!! A miracle

This probiotic is helping our cat with IBD so much! If he is off it for too long, he starts puking every day. You do need to give them the whole package at a time or if you must space it out, it needs to be given so that they get all of it within an hour so it is the same as giving it all at once. Our vet had to tell us that because we were splitting it up for a day to ease him into it. Now he hasn’t puked and is feeling better!

This little youngster of mine has had diarrhea on many occasions. Twice on the carpet. One of those times was on Christmas morning. In addition to the diarrhea he had the most obnoxious gas. I had to do something, fast! My daughter a vet tech suggested using this product. After using just a couple of packets, no more gas, no more diarrhea! I give him a packet once a week now that his bowels are under control just to keep it that way.

Immune compromised cat licks, likes, gets healthy

This little rescue queen is as easygoing as can be. Sneezes and runny eyes were news to us after we got her home. We followed vet recommendations for lysine gel plus Fortiflora to manage this - and a bit of a skin condition around her ear base. It works, we keep eye wipes and a soothing cream but seldom need them any more. She prefers the powder on her dry food, when the cat sitter didnt follow through we came home to wet sneezes in our face- quickly resolved. When she got her fortiflora. The lysine gel goes on top of her front paws and seems to help her skin more than the other symptoms. She is a solo cat at my daughter’s house now.

Kitty loves this and it is good for him

Buffy is a rescue older cat (13 yrs?)that I have had for 3 years. He had many digestive and bowel issues when I found him. Over time I have found a bowel/constipation/tummy routine along with regular brushing that has stabilized his issues and he absolutely loves it. Every evening he gets 1 capsule opened of unflavored Metamucil, 1/4 teaspoon Mirilax, 1/2 pack of FortiFlora and 1/2 liquid tuna treat mixed with a little water to a slurry. This has produced a daily soft formed stool with much decrease in vomit. I have used FortiFlora to assist with other medication administration over the years. Of course check with your vet before any home remedies.

Magic dust!

My vet recommended this for our elderly cat with kidney disease after a course of antibiotics for bladder infection, to help with diarrhea and stimulate appetite

My vet recommended this for our elderly cat with kidney disease after a course of antibiotics for bladder infection, to help with diarrhea and stimulate appetite and it worked amazingly well from the very first dose! He then had to go on a longer course of antibiotics to clear all traces of infection, and we kept him on the probiotics throughout; he never got diarrhea and his appetite has stayed consistent. The vet calls it “fairy dust” and has used it for her own cats. Much better price on Chewy vs buying from the vet office.

It really bothers me that Chewy neglects to put chicken as an ingredient/warning. So you buy it thinking it's safe because it doesn't list chicken anywhere. It says it on the packet and I didn't bother because Chewy didn't List It. My cat got very, very sick. It does say it on the packet, but I didn't bother looking per Chewy's description. Chewy please warn that chicken is an ingredient! There are many cats that are allergic!
