Answer by ChewySep 16, 2020
The quantity of treats will vary due to this product being based on weight.

Can I get the carbohydrate information for this product? My cat is pre diabetic and this information would be helpful.

These treats have a carbohydrate content of approximately 32%. As someone who prefers to feed grain-free food, I don't love that these are mostly corn, but VOHC doesn't have any grain-free cat treats approved at this time. I try to prioritize my pet's oral health and include these in my cat's dental treat rotation. My main issue with these is both of my cats (both very food & treat driven) quickly lose interest when eating these which prevents them from eating the full recommended serving for the dental benefit. They will literally just walk away after a few. Part of me thinks the size and the effort to chew outweighs their love for the taste because they've also done it with both Dentalife and Whimzee dental treats which have a similar size, shape, & texture. They will never walk away from a Greenies dental treat, I just personally don't like how greasy they make my fingers feel. The price of these is more than 3x as much as the Dentalife dental treats so if you're looking for a VOHC approved Purina treat I'd recommend those over these. The ingredients are very similar and the basic guaranteed analysis is identical. The main difference is these claim to help plaque & tartar, while Dentalife only claims to help tartar, but that isn't as important when it's just one step in your pets oral health routine.

I used to feed my cat Purina Pro Plan Veterinary diet, we had to make a switch as he got diagnosed with a very sensitive stomach however I really still love the Purina Veterinary Diet choices so that was the first thing that made me trust this enough to give to my baby. Greenies (an alternative dental treat) make him throw up! I gave him two and he did great with them - he even CHEWED the treat instead of just inhaling it as he tends to do sometime. So was very happy as its not going to work unless he chews. His teeth are starting to look kind of iffy and he is going on 8 so we want to address any teeth issues now before there is a more expensive problem. SO FAR SO GOOD!!! THANK YOU!

Big enough to make him chew!

Got three different dental treats from a vet recommended list and while he loved all of them as treats, this is the only one where most of the pieces are big enough to force him to actually chew it. He's 13lbs with a big mouth, so if you've got a cat that size that just swallows everything, this may help more than smaller treats.

So good it’s worth getting stuck with a needle to get one!!

These are the treats I use to reward Cosmo for coming to get his insulin injection! While he’s crunching away on his little crunchy treat he doesn’t even notice

My cats like these treats, but the recommended amount of SEVENTEEN(!) treats each day is ludicrous. Not only would I not give so many of a non-requisite ‘food,’ but my cats would not be able to eat both the dental supplement and their actual diet. It would be like giving a child gummy vitamins and no balanced diet of protein and vegetables. This puts pet parents in the position of guessing what smaller number of treats will provide a dental benefit.

My picky kitties all loved this treat. One of them tends to swallow dental treats whole, but they crunch this one 75% of the time. Not was consistently as they crunch the other Purina branded dental treat, but still more so than treats from other brands.

I was getting shipped the purple bag of the dental treats. However, the past 2 shipments have been this orange bag. Please do not buy these treats because you will get the bag that I received over and over again. I am not sure if it’s a supplier issue with Purina but this is ridiculous.

We purchased these chews and four other urinary health treats available from Chewy and mixed them for our 9-year-old, Hawaii-rescue, FIV-positive, a tabby who needed an operation two years ago for a urinary blockage. He loves them. We plan to place all of them on recurring delivery as soon as I have a projection on how long they will last.

Quality Product But Large Pieces

One of cats is recently a diabetic, he also has many teeth pulled and I am trying out alternative treats for after I he gets his shots twice a day. These were too big for him to chew, so they did not work out for him. I only gave 4 stars because of the size, but that is no reflection on the quality of the product. I have 4 other cats and one of the younger ones at has sharp teeth was able to chew them, but still not with ease because they are the largest crunchies I have ever seen. One other elderly cat has missing teeth, so I did not give to him and the other two, were not that interested, but I have been sneaking them in with their crunchies and someone is eating them. The only reason why I won't purchase again is because they are too big. I found another metabolic treat on Chewy.com that are in the shape of a heart and my diabetic cat loves them as well as the youngest cat and the other three have no interest in them, they want Temptations. All cats go crazy for temptations, but I am no longer buying it because I am so afraid another cat will become a diabetic. I am not sure if giving too many temptations along with different crunchies contributed to it, but my vet shared that more and more indoor cats are becoming diabetic. It is life changing to give injections two times a day and they must be 10-11 hours a part.
