Is the salmon farm raised or sourced from the ocean or another water source? How are mercury levels monitored in the salmon?

Answer by ChewyFeb 13, 2022
Purina utilizes both farm-raised and ocean-caught seafood in their products. As part of their comprehensive food safety and ingredient surveillance programs, they do test for well over 150 substances — including mercury. At Purina, all seafood vendors must go through an extensive Vendor Approval Process including on-site audits and repeated ingredient testing for mercury and other contaminants, with preference given to geographical areas and fish species known to have low mercury residues. Only those vendors that pass this review process are approved vendors of Purina.

How many cups per pound?

Answer by ChewyAug 04, 2021
There are approximately 4 cups per pound of kibble.

Where is this dog food made?

Answer by ChewyMar 20, 2022
Of all Purina pet food products sold in the USA, 99% are made in the USA. The vast majority of ingredients used in Purina products made in the U.S. are sourced here in the U.S. Like other food companies, Purina does source a limited amount of ingredients from other countries, including China. These ingredients are primarily essential nutrients, such as taurine and B vitamins that are not commonly available in the U.S. in the quantities we need. Purina ensures that all of the ingredients they use meet the same high-quality standards. This includes ingredients we source from China.

My dog has a history of ear infections and skin issues and his original vet kept giving him ear flushes and meds for his skin but when we finally said enough to the stuff that wasn’t working like the vet he was going to and the meds and went to a dermatologist for animals they said to give him this type of food and within days the ear infections and skin issues went away. We ran out of the food while we were on vacation and his issues came back so I hurried up and bought it so fingers crossed my poor doggie can get some relief soon.

We had the worst time trying to get my dog’s stomach to not be upset all the time. While it smells like fish food (it is salmon so it makes sense) after a couple weeks my dog got really used to it and now eats it happily! Before this food she would only eat out of my hand, or while lying down, and now she is happy to go to her food bowl. Not the cleanest ingredients on earth, but if she can eat it and isn’t sick with a hard tummy anymore, I’ll take it! She is allergic to chicken, so the salmon or the vegetable were our options.

Kibbles are very large. I have a 1 and a half yr French bulldog and she is not able to chew the kibble because it’s so large. Also, she shows no interest in it at all. Any suggestions on how get her to eat? It would be appreciated. I gave it a three because I really haven’t been able to test it I hear it’s a greatproduct but without her eating it, I really don’t know how to review. Again, I hear it’s a great product and works wonders for animals with a condition she has my fridge she has IBS and this is supposed to a great food for her and she’s allergic chicken so salmon was the next choice and she doesn’t seem to be interested in salmon at all so againanyone that can give me any suggestions on how to get her to eat it would be awesome

This product (hydrolyzed something - salmon, chicken, vegetarian, etc.) was highly recommended by vet for my dog's needs (she is thought to have a chicken and beef allergy as part of her IBD) and this product was supposed to be able to help her stomach dramatically. I wasn't thrilled about the price of it, but I was excited at the prospect of being able to help out my dog. I tried hydrolyzed chicken before this (which my dog ate a few handfuls of over the course of a couple weeks) but this was even worse, she hasn't touched the food I've left out, won't eat it when I bring it up to her to encourage her, she just turns her head away in disgust. I'm sure it has great health benefits or it wouldn't come so highly recommended, but if I can't get my dog to eat a bite of it then there's really no point in those health benefits. Most of all, I'm thankful for Chewy's free returns, because without that this would've been a very expensive lesson to have to learn that my dog won't eat a crumb and I'd have basically no money left to buy her more dog food to eat after that.

THE DOG IS NOT A FAN AT ALL OF THIS FOOD, just about the only way he will eat it is with a tsp of sugar free applesauce mixed in with it. This was recommend by his Vet as a change from his chicken in hopes that would stop him from licking and chewing on his paws and legs, but a negative response so far. Maybe the vegetarian one would have been a better choice now that I think about it. The price for this food to me is rather expensive, so that plays a key role in it also. I just don’t know it might be better than sliced bread for some of the kids, but not this fella. I can’t say I would recommend as he is only one animal, but at the same time I can’t say I would not recommend it.

New Prescription food

Let's hope after 2.5 years of allergy challenges, THIS food will be the best. I only wish there were SOME kind of occasional discount offered. I feel it is unfair

Let's hope after 2.5 years of allergy challenges, THIS food will be the best. I only wish there were SOME kind of occasional discount offered. I feel it is unfair for so many pet owners to have to pay $$ soo much more for the well being of their pets, added to the cost of living. I can only say we are lucky that we can afford this for Dusty

My pup had bubble guts, gas, and runny poops. She was unable to process protein and after a ton of tests and vet visits-we were told about the problem of protein processing. It’s worked wonders!! Our only problem is the price.. its high! So to help offset the costs we’ ve added in rice and sweet potatoes.

My 4 year old Weim Fiona has been plagued by skin issues. We have done cytopoint , Apoquel, antibiotics, steroids and soaks. Finally the rash and interdigital cysts are resolved. She likes the food ( she is not picky) and our other dog eats it as well. My next step is to try to wean her off of the Apoquel.

My 5 yr old Weim has had skin allergies off and on for years, of course she also had table scraps. Changed her diet using Purina Pro Plan HA per Vets request, and NO table food and my Weim's skin allergies have gone away, and no more medicine. The food may be pricey but worth the cost for the health of my baby.

We used to have him on the Hills Science Diet ZD that has somewhat worked but he has constant ear infections, we are just just over half way through this bag and both ears have raging ear infections that I swear just appeared overnight, no warning of head shaking, just one morning crying while scratching his ears and I checked them and both red and inflamed and disgusting brown inside. Ugh, why can't I find something that works for this poor guy?
