How much of the can should I feed a 16 pound pug? Serving size

How much of the can should be feed to a small dog? Half?

Answer by 1433Mar 13, 2026
Depends on the weight of the *small* dog. Adult dogs generally require about 20–30 calories per pound of body weight daily to maintain their weight, depending on activity level.

What is the difference between the regular Purina EN and the Purina EN Naturals canned dog food?

Answer by ChewyMar 26, 2019
Both the EN Gastroenteric and EN Gastroenteric Naturals have been specifically formulated with the protein levels that your dog needs, as well as prebiotics and low fiber to support intestinal health. The difference between the two is that the EN Gastroenteric Naturals has added vitamins and minerals, plus is formulated without corn, wheat, or artificial colors and flavors

My name is tink I have a very bad stomach, and honestly I would not be here without this dog food I think my mommy put on it about five years ago I’m doing just fine every once in a while I have a little flareup, It kept me very healthy. You can look at me and just know that I’ve been taking care of thank God for this product. And whoever came up with it. she doesn’t give me anything else. I don’t get any table scraps and I don’t get to lick anything that’s been dropped on the floor, but I’m very grateful for the dry dog food and the wet food because it’s been keeping me healthy and you can look-at me and tell thanks Mom that’s my brother Bobo. He eats it too. He doesn’t have a bad stomach, but my mom putting him on it and he loves it too.

Finally a solution!

Our 15 mo. old Whoodle (Soft-coated Wheaton Terrier/Miniature Poodle mix) has had digestive issues off and on his entire short life. Some days all he will do is cry to go outside and eat grass all day. He will refuse food and water until his tummy feels better. We had to find a solution! (We give him barley grass in water with a syringe, CBD oil and probiotics in some plain, organic yogurt to relieve his pain.) Long story, but, after many different high quality, pricey, natural foods and excellent supplements, the vet prescribed EN for him. I choose the Naturals version due to the far better ingredients over the regular EN which has troubling ingredients, such as “meat by-product” which can mean a number of nasty things, and the inclusion of soy protein isolates, which is baaaad! Rusty is eager to eat every meal now, and he was a picky pup! I do crumble a half of a small Stella and Chewy’s chicken meal patty over the top. His digestion has greatly improved on this food. I tried, as directed by a holistic vet, to start transitioning him to Honest Kitchen food, but, once I got to adding just 3 tbls. of that, he vomited and had diarrhea, again! Back to EN Naturals, Stella and Chewy’s on top, Perfect Form powder digestive supplement by Honest Kitchen, Healthy Gut prebiotic/probiotic/digestive enzymes and CBD oil and now his stool is perfect and he’s a happy, healthy boy!

Have 3 Maltese all sired from same male (different "mommies") - a year and 1/2 ago one was diagnosed with pancreatitus and I worried that all might be susceptible due to their partially shared bloodlines. Our vet agreed & recommended prescription diets. To date I've tried 3 different brands; Hills, Royal Canine and Purina. All three Malts agree - the Prescription Purina diet (dry & canned) is their favorite. AAAAND NOT ONE BOUT OF PANCREATITUS SINCE! I also give them plenty of Canine Caviar Sweet Potato Treats - healthy, filling little between meal treats. The combination has worked miracles on my little treasure and appears to be preventing digestive problems for her brother & sister. Chewys Auto shipments save me $$$ and make my life simpler too!!

Our chihuahua developed pancreatitis. Hospitalized, tubed, and fed by syringe for a couple of months. The longest case of pancreatitis known to our vet and our local pet gastrointologist specialist. Our veterinarian recommended Purina EN Natural. I googled etc., to see what other natural alternatives there were but really didn’t have a choice. He needed to eat. Our vet had it over-nighted. And in the blender it went with meds and supplements. That was three and a half years ago! Gizmo ToePoe GeeJoe is now 15 years and 2months old! Our vet does not stock this food and recommended Chewy. Every order through Chewy has been consistent. I’ve never experienced a difference in orders or Purina’s batch process. And Chewy is right on with auto-delivery and their customer service!

My husband & I have an 11 yr. old, 15 lb. cream colored, purebred Pom named RAINIER. We've had him since he was 3 months old. A few yrs. ago, he was diagnosed with pancreatitius and he's been eating canned EN Gastroenteric food every since. There's so few choices for dogs with his condition and it's hard for me to feed him the same thing day in & day out. He doesn't like dry food & will swallow it whole rather than chewing it. (His last dental cleaning was 3/24/2020.) When I found out Pro Plan EN offered a Natural canned dog food with far superior ingredients, I was thrilled. RAINIER loves it. (I read the reviews and was sure he would.) This will be the only canned dog food he'll get from now on, or at least until something even better comes out, if it ever does. Treats for dog's with his condition are so rare. Our vet recommends all the veggies he wants to eat so he gets raw cauliflower stems (doesn't like the flowers), raw baby carrots & sodium free green beans. Thank You Pro Plan. Now, please come out with some delicious dog treats.

Our 8.5 year old Boxer mix, Shanti, was on Science Diet for most of her years, until a bout of pancreatitis that happened, after they changed their formulation a few years back. Our veterinarian then switched Shanti to Rx Purina Pro Plan EN. This improved the gastrointestinal symptoms Shanti experienced, but it wasn’t a perfect solution for her. When EN Naturals, without iffy grains, became available, we trialed Shanti. She’s picky, but she has largely accepted the canned version for most of her meals. We also purchased the dry version to offer her, for times she’s more willing to eat dry food. When nothing else works, we cut up and bake the canned version in the toaster oven for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees. She’ll accept that as a ‘treat’. I prefer the pull top EN Naturals version vs the EN can that requires a can opener for my own convenience.

I have a 14 year old yorkie who has been eating Purina EN Gastroenteric Naturals dry dog food for 10 years and loves it. Recently she had an upset of her GI tract due to taking an oral flea med that flared her colitis symptoms. She lost weight so we wanted to give her the wet food equivalent hoping she could eat more. I ordered this hoping it would agree with her as her stomach is very sensitive. The food came today and my yorkie loves it. I am pleased with the ingredients in this formula. .She is constantly wanting to go back to the kitchen to see if I will feed her a little more. Very pleased with this product. Thank you Chewy for getting this food to me in 3 days.

I have a 13-yr old Westie with a large inoperable tumor on her spleen. I am adding supplements to her food that must not taste great (or smell great) because she's turning her nose up, and I knew this food worked well for when she had an upset tummy (and she loved it) so I asked my Vet to prescribe this for her so I could add it to her regular food and supplements, and now she's scarfing her food right along with the supplements. She's looking great, feeling great, no upset tummy. I give my older mutt this too, as an additive to his food and he thinks he is special just like my little sick Westie. I like this better than the regular Purina EN because of the better ingredients.

Tried a different version of gastrointestinal food & it was hard getting him to eat it. Read the food label and noticed it had byproducts as a main ingredient. Went looking for a better product. Same brand but different ingredients which didn’t include byproducts. Whatever the difference, he eats the natural ingredient food.

Our 13 year old schnoodle developed pancreatitis. After a stay at the emergency clinic we brought him home with a case of regular EN and he did very well with that, but I like the list of ingredients in Naturals a lot better, and he seems to like it just as much as the regular. We are doing pretty good now with this as topper over Annamaet Grain-Free Lean Low Fat dry, Charlie loves both of these.
