Questions & Answers

What type of deer is used for this recipe and where does Purina source the venison from? Due to the entire white-tailed deer population being an endless host reservoir for the SARS-CoV-2 and its variants, it is extremely important to verify venison is guaranteed not taken from infected meat sources.

Answer by heatherFeb 02, 2023
I can't imagine that purina hires people to go out and hunt for wild deer so they can make their products. There are deer farms throughout the country, and just like other farms, there are regulations in place to ensure diseased livestock are not being processed for food supply. It is no different than beef or chicken as far as things like disease control go.

My dogs are obsessed with this food and go through it so fast that we have to order the autoship a week early. We change their food up sometimes (always purina) to give them some variety but this specific type has become a problem because my dogs are becoming fat and lazy. We free feed because thats how my older dog was raised and he naturally grazes randomly throughout the day. With this food he finishes the bowl and requests seconds by scratching the food container vigorously. My younger will eat half a bowl here and there but then finish it when we arent around so we arent sure who ate what and when. We are going to switch them to a weight management type for the time being just because they are getting excessively obese. Photo to prove claims

I’ve been buying Purina One since I got my first puppy and had no issues, until now. Recently I noticed my dog is dropping pieces on the floor around her dish. She won’t eat them. Upon further inspection, they seem to be made out of paper! They are the very light colored pieces. I’ve also noticed in this last bag that there is a lot more of them. I’ve reached out to Purina but have not heard back. I can’t be paying this much for food my dog will only eat half of! Time to start looking for an alternative!

We have tried many kibble varieties since reducing my first pup. She’s not the pickiest but definitely has occasional opinions. From the first bowl she loved the kibble. She devours the meaty bits first then goes in for the rest. Only downside is I had to switch away from an automatic feeder because the meaty bits sometimes get stuck. Worth it though for her to have a food she reliably loves every single time.

Past few months I’ve ordered 3 large bags, as needed, and find the mix of the hard kibble with the soft chew nuggets very inconsistent. One bag, all throughout, was mostly the soft chew nuggets which doesn't seem very substantial. This last bag was mostly kibble. I will say this, my dog is allergy prone and I’ve explored many higher quality foods, Acana being one that he can eat. I use the True Instinct now to mix in for economic reasons and thankfully NO allergic reaction. Both dogs eat it up! One’s a food hound and one is fussy. 4 star simply due to inconsistent blending.

I have never met a lab that isn’t a complete garbage disposal, until I adopted my little yellow Deacon. That dude won’t eat anything. I have tried all the expensive, high protein, human grade, natural ingredient, etc. etc. foods and I usually get about 2 unprotested meals out of a bag. Then it gets donated, given away, or returned. Finally, I gave up and bought him Purina which is what my other foster dog eats. You have to admit it’s not the highest grade food you can buy, which is why I was hesitant. But he loves it. As long as it’s high protein, has chondroitin and glucosamine, and is either grained or has added taurine, I’m ok with it. So we settled on this one. It is so much cheaper than what I’ve been buying and I don’t have to add anything to it to convince him to eat. Also, if you get down to the last day and don’t have time to place an order, this one is great because it is sold at big retailers as well.

I am elderly, 71 to be exact and really appreciate not having to search stores for a 15 lb. bag of my dogs' favorite dry food. I cannot carry the larger bags to my car, therefore I can't purchase them, even if I do find that variety. Since my pets mean the world to me as I have been a widow for 4 years now, I need them to have the best possible kibble in their diets. Therefore, I appreciate having a reputable company delivering this trusted dog food. Thank you, Marge

My Akita has been on Purina pro-plan since he turned one year old.Now turning three end of November he can't have beef or rice that salmon and beef has and so we needed to switch food.I wanted to stay with Purina and after searching other brands for no rice it seems rice is a main ingredient in every food.Purina has this turkey and venison true instinct which I thought was just Purina One but it's not, it's a little more expensive than one but after reading ingredients it's worth it.There is rice in it but not a top ingredient like salmon or the beef which I tried both with no luck. This seems to be working so far and he hasn't had any brake outs and it's been almost a month. It has a lower cost for a heavier bag then pro plan and with the price of dog food this is a good thing.I'm hoping no more calls to the vet that I was making every other week to come to my house because he refuses to get into a car and home visits are very expensive.Read the ingredient's, it has everything a dog needs to stay healthy.

Unfortunately, I have been seeing a downgrade in quality in the recent bags I’ve been getting. A lot more of those rubbery things and less of the kibble. The kibble is why I buy it. I could care less about those extra little rubber things. I have returned a bag to Purina and they were good about the return, but I will get a bag with a lot of kibble and then the next bag has a bunch of those rubber things. Consistency seems to be a problem.
