Is this good for Dalmatians. They say the breed is prone to kidney stones

Answer by MikkSep 30, 2024
Based off my knowledge, this would be a great food for any adult breed that doesn’t require a prescription diet! In dogs with kidney issues, you just want to steer clear of feeding high protein foods. For an example, an adult dog whose breed is genetically prone to kidney issues, should not be fed the puppy formula as puppy formulas are often times higher in protein. High amounts of protein in non athletic adult dogs can have negative effects on the kidneys. But you can always ask a vet this question for an opinion from a medical professional! Chewy does offer services for their customers where you can can chat with a licensed vet for medical advice. They just are not able to diagnose anything. Hope this helps!

I try very hard not to feed my dogs with food that includes corn, wheat or soy. I was feeding them a higher priced food. Three out of 6 dogs got terrible dandruff, like it was snowing dandruff, so I switched their food, but my oldest girl decided it wasn't for her. The kibble was way too small for a Golden, and one of my three year olds wouldn't eat the tiny kibble either. They love the shredded nuggets in the Purina One. Today I came home with three types of food, two have the tiny kibble, one is Purina One Smart Blend Lamb and Rice....it looks like Purina One is the winner even with the corn, wheat and soy. I am a breeder and those ingredients have been bred into my brain as nono's, so letting my two dogs eat Purina One is quite a change for me. When the other two bags are eaten my other dogs will be switched to Purina One also. Quite a change for me in 30 years, but if my Iris 15 yrs, old will eat it and my picky girl Rosie 3 yrs. old eats it, I am not going to worry anymore or over work myself cooking all kinds of things to get my girls to eat.

My dogs have been on this food their whole lives and I have never seen green pieces in the bag. I just started dumping the bag into my storage container and noticed there were several green pieces in it. I started picking them out but then I saw just how many pieces there was so I just stopped. They deal like foam. A lot softer that the chewy pieces regularly in the food.

I ordered this on chewy after I had been buying it from walmart for a while I own two American pit bulls but one has a severe food allergy to most foods so after going through several different foods and then cooking her food from home which was becoming costly and time consuming and I still felt I wasnt able to give her the proper nutrition I broke down and bought this its rediculously priced at walmart depending which bag you get $40-50 bucks but I was on here ordering some things and I noticed it was a lot cheaper so I ordered it will definantly order from here from now on instead of walmart and free shipping is pretty awesome if you spend the $50 bucks which I normally do I spoil my fur babys each weeks with new toys and treats and yes this food has cleared up her skin

At two years old our male Sheltie developed hair loss on his feet and legs. After a long process of testing we found out he is allergic to MANY things. His specialist (Dermotologist), besides many medications and treatments, recommended highly feeding him Purina Products . I hate to admit but because of the amount of advertising I switched from Purnia ONE to another name brand food a few years before getting this sheltie. The specialist said what this brand I switched to does is a lot of advertising and not much research. Purina does product research and why he recommended them highly. Needless to say I have switched back to Purina ONE Lam and Rice. My sheltie is currently 5 years old and is doing much better. Since the late 1970's I have always feed Purina products. With so much advertising on the internet, TV and magazines I was fooled into thinking I was making a good choice for my dogs. Shame on me!

First, I like to mention that Chewy is an excellent 5/5 company. The review is just for the product. I used to buy Purina Wild Instinct. Angel started having all sorts of skin issues, which seems to be a common side effect of all the "high protein" food on the market. I switched to these ones a while back. She started scratching her ears quite a lot, and she constantly seems irritated by her ear and paw issues. I started reading reviews and found out that this is how it goes: buy processed poisonous dog "food" -> dog shows signs of allergy, which should be non-existent in dogs -> owner buys allergy medication -> dog starts having stomach issues -> buy some meds for her stomach issues with some sedatives (which is crazy) -> face more issues -> go to a vet, spend a few hundred bucks and get more meds -> repeat I've been giving her homemade food instead of all that poison for the past few days and it's already working wonders. Her ears are better, and she seems to be much more energetic than before. Just get some boneless chicken and veggies and boil them. You can refrigerate/freeze them for convenience. Give them real food and I can guarantee you almost all their issues will slowly go away.

I have tried so many dog foods, including homemade and fresh foods, and my dogs are healthiest on Purina One Lamb and Rice. I have a miniature Dachshund, a pit mix, and a Great Dane, and this is the only food I’ve found that has worked for all three. They have no digestion issues, their coats are beautiful, their energy levels are great, and lab work looks perfect. This was not the case on other foods. There is something to be said for the brands that fall under WASAVA guidelines, including Purina, even though I used to think they were cheap foods with “fillers.” After educating myself on dog nutrition, there is actually no such thing as a “filler.” Every single ingredient has a purpose. Yes, including corn.

I really, really wanted to like this food for several reasons. I work in vet med and would like to feed my pets a brand that meets wsava standards. I also love their rewards program, and the price point. My dog thinks it is delicious. But, my poor gal has been getting itchy, yeasty ears over and over again since shortly after I adopted her (and put her on this food). I finally switched her to a "boutique" low carb brand like my previous dogs did well on, and since her last treatment, there has been no recurrance. I really wish the brands who pour so much money into research would care a *little* about individual ingredients and not just the big picture.

This brand and flavor was suggested to us by a coworker’s sister that is a dog trainer and works with shepherds a lot. Said that lamb and rice was good for shepherds with allergies and infections from yeast. So far there have been improvements in both our babies.
