Where is this food made and where are the ingredients sourced from?

Answer by ChewyJan 11, 2019
A majority of ingredients used in Purina products are made in the US and are sourced in the US. Like other food companies, they do source a limited amount of ingredients from other countries. These ingredients are primarily essential nutrients, like taurine or vitamin B that are not commonly available in the US in the quantities needed.

A breeder graciously gave me a purebred white lab, three years old. Elsa retired after one litter, but has not been spayed. The breeder also gave me two bags of 4HEALTH kibble. Elsa never would clean her bowl. I stopped by the vet to check her weight, and asked what brand of kibble he recommended. He said PURINA DOG CHOW was adequate, but PURINA ONE PLUS is what he feeds. Checking prices, I discovered three tiers of kibble. The bottom tier of kibble sells for about a dollar a pound, the middle tier sells for about a dollar and a half a pound, and for the upper tier, the sky is the limit. I found that CHEWY delivers to my door PURINA ONE PLUS at a lower price that I can find at the local grocery or feed store. And with PURINA ONE PLUS, Elsa cleans her bowl every meal. The only problem is that, after a month on PURINA ONE PLUS, Elsa has gone from 76 pounds to 80 pounds. So now instead of three cups in the morning and two cups at night, Elsa is going to be fed two cups in the morning and two cups at night.

Our latest shipment of dog food came with a new smaller kibble size. I preferred the old size, but this wasn't a big deal. I did notice that there were a lot more crumbs with this new bag/size and assumed that it was just because we dumped the bag into the food bucket and they were all at the top now. But we are halfway through the bad and there are still a tonne of crumbs as you can see in the photo. If this is normal we will be stopping our order.

Been feeding this ton2 out of 4 of our dogs for 7 years. The last couple bags I bought were kibble but crumble. Alot of crushed kibble. At first I thought it was just a random mistake the end of whatever was loaded into the bag and it was just on top- nope it was thru out the whole bag. Figured freak accident bought another bag 3 weeks later and same thing. All from chewy. Then thought we'll maybe their stach got crushed or a accident at Purina itself. I discredited it got thrown around during deliberate when I came to bag #3. So...long story short its not the same. So will be looking into another brand after our last auto delivery. Hope this helps. For the record it was a great dry kibble. We do homemade food as a topper as well but the kibble seemed very good. Shiney coats, Heathy at every vet visit. Has that changed- slightly the 1 out of the 2 is itchier than normal, dandruff and she's never had that and she's 5. New allergies idk but that is a change and no change in diet and has a seresto collar. The other dog no issues. So it seems ok but the crumble cant be very nutritious at the 2000 degrees its cooked ti begin with but...yeah ill end this there bc that's another rabbit hole. Haha.

All 3 love it

I switched to this food when our 8 year old pit/boxer started having joint issues. I can tell you within 1month she was running jumping in the car like she use to

I switched to this food when our 8 year old pit/boxer started having joint issues. I can tell you within 1month she was running jumping in the car like she use to. She eats it so fast she doesn't even chew. Now we need a slow feed bowl lol Our 4 year old Great Pyrenees loves it also. Our vet recommends it for large breed puppies also. He says the puppy food has to much protein and our 5 month old Great Pyrenees will grow to fast on such a good food. Bottom line, all 3 of our different aged dogs just LOVE it. My only issue is the gas my older dogs have. Its the only food they get except an occasional table scrap but the gas is soooooo gross !! I don't want to change food so any ideas would be greatly appreciated !!

Crumbly Mess

The entire bag of food came all crumbled up and crushed. It was basically the texture of sand. Although. my dog loves this food, so eating it did not bother him

I've been buying this dog food for years for my 100 lb mutt and he LOVES it. He looks just like the dog model on the bags! I asked Purina what kind of dog was in the picture they told me they used a dog at a rescue or shelter as their model. I'm sad though because all the stores around me have now raised the prices of this brand $10 more a bag! So I looked on here and they had it at the price I'd been paying. Now I look and the price is creeping up on here too. I don't want to, but I may have to change dog foods.

My dog is a very picky eater. She loves the soft chicken in the food. She ate it like it was going out of style at first. But just like all the rest she slowed down but she is still eating it more then the rest. Nothing is wrong with the food but my big girl has digestive problems, so that is on her. I do recommend this food. Even with the digestive and high allergic reactions she has, it is still a good bag of food for her. At least this one does not make her vomit or gave diarrhea. So we are lucky she can eat it and keep it down.

Good for the pickiest kibble rejecters

My 2 year old Bernedoodle loves this! It's been very hard trying to find a kibble that he won't reject and also agrees with his stomach, he's been ignoring his food

My 2 year old Bernedoodle loves this! It's been very hard trying to find a kibble that he won't reject and also agrees with his stomach, he's been ignoring his food until he's extremely famished and usually has to be coaxed to eat with some kind of treat mixed into it. Decided to try this since it has soft meaty bits in it, and he loves it so much he's been eating bowls of his old food as soon as some of this new food is put on top. He eats the soft bits first but is happy to keep going and finish the rest. Fingers crossed that he'll continue being enthused about it!

My love loves this stuff

My dog is a boxer. I don't really think.of him as a large dog but many do. Abe's problem is that he likes to inhale his food. The larger pieces forces him to chew rather inhales. He really loves the chicken flavor most. I also, don't have to worry if the grocery store is going to have it. It is hard enough to find a place that sells it. This stuff is often sold out even at the stores that do carry it. The biggest plus is the fact that I can now buy the biggest bag saving me money and having it delivered to the front door with free shipping! No more lugging bags from the store then from the car into the house, all things make the choice of chewy a no brainer. It keeps us both happier and healthier. He also has the joint and muscle formula that is not carried at AND stores in the area the big heavy bags keep us both healthy as we both are getting older.

Pittie preferred

We were buying a more expensive specialized brand for my 3 Pit bulls, and for some reason a couple months ago one of them completely started turning her nose up

We were buying a more expensive specialized brand for my 3 Pit bulls, and for some reason a couple months ago one of them completely started turning her nose up at her food and I could not get her to eat at all unless I added rice and chicken into her food. And then after a little while the other two dogs absolutely would not eat the other brand as well so as a shot in the dark I purchased this one because of the chunky bits that looked more like chicken and all three of them eat their food as soon as I put it in there dish and I have not had any digestive issues or anything. My dogs are all acting normal again so for whatever reason I will definitely not be switching from this brand again period because now I have very happy Pittievbabies! Plus ordering online I'm buying the larger bag for the same price I would be buying the smaller bag for in-store
