Important Safety Information

PROIN ER IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: For oral use in dogs only. Not for human use. Keep out of reach of children. If accidentally ingested by humans, contact a physician immediately.

The most commonly reported side effects were vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, excessive salivation, agitation, tiredness, vocalization, confusion, increased water consumption, weight loss, weakness, fever, panting, and reversible changes in skin color (flushing or bright pink). Abnormal gait, seizures or tremors, as well as liver enzyme elevations, kidney failure, blood in urine and urine retention have been reported. In some cases death, including euthanasia has been reported. Sudden death was sometimes preceded by vocalization or collapse.

Instances of dogs chewing through closed vials of PROIN and eating the vial contents have been reported, in some cases resulting in overdose. Keep the product in a secured storage area out of the reach of pets in order to prevent accidental ingestion or overdose, as dogs may willingly consume more than the recommended dosage of PROIN Chewable Tablets or PROIN ER tablets. Contact your veterinarian immediately if the dog ingests more tablets than prescribed or if other pets ingest PROIN Chewable tablets or PROIN ER tablets.

PROIN and PROIN ER may cause elevated blood pressure and should be used with caution in dogs with pre-existing heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney insufficiency, diabetes, glaucoma, and other conditions associated with high blood pressure. Dogs may transition from PROIN Chewable Tablets to PROIN ER without a break in administration. However, do not alternate PROIN ER with PROIN Chewable Tablets because the effectiveness and safety of interchangeable use have not been evaluated.

The safe use of PROIN and PROIN ER in dogs used for breeding purposes, during pregnancy or in lactating bitches, has not been evaluated. Contact your veterinarian if you notice restlessness or irritability, loss of appetite, the incontinence persists or worsens, or any other unusual signs. Fawn most likely had a nerve knicked during spay surgery at a shelter, she’s the second rescue thats happened to in my life. So I have to give her proin daily to control it. Its fantastic! Shes really deep and shy and peeing herself is very obviously embarrassing to her, when she wales up wet she will jump up and go hide. My poor girl. When we give her proin every night before bed she has zero accidents. The only problem is dosing with this medication. Shes an 80lb white German Shepherd and supposedly her dose is 145mg, but the vet said with this med its trial and error till you get the dose right. And he was right!! But remember I buy the extended release so its a bit higher - but I take a 145mg pill and cut it into 6 small pieces! All she needs is one - so her actual dose is about 25mg. When I gave her the whole 145mg the first day by the doctors orders, Fawn couldnt get up, couldnt walk, couldnt eat or drink or even open her eyes bc her third eyelid was sooo exposed. It was terrifying and we immediately cut the pills up to give her the smallest dose possible and that ended up being about 25mg. So yes it works, she’s still a baby and will need to take this for life, just like our previous German Shepherd who lived on it daily for 14 years. Side effects could include weight gain so exercise is a must.

Ordering medication from the Chewy pharmacy and having them collaborate with my Newfoundland dog’s Veterinarian has been a great decision. The communication is always clear and concise, the prices are much more cost effective and the ordering is fast and easy. The best part is I have the meds on auto ship so the shipping is free and it’s worry free. I have my Newfie’s meds delivered to my door at a much lower cost than my Veterinarian can get them to me for and there are no hassles just because I went online to get the order. The medications my Newfie takes ante still the same exact medications offered by his Veterinarian and are both doing a great job for my Newfs issues. Best part of the order, every now and then, a toy and/or a treat might just show up in the box for my big guy!

Proin absolutely worked but it came with side effects for sure. I have a 14 year old mix that has some liver failure. Proin caused my dog to have high blood pressure, constant panting, constant pacing, which resulted in destructive behavior. She could never settle down and couldn't rest. She kept us up all night. She would walk through the house at night and get onto anything and everything. Note that she was on proin for 1.5 months. It became so bad that we had to start closing our bedroom door. She would bump her head against our door, constantly chew on her bed, very strange behavior. Im not saying not to try it because every dog is different but for us, the incontinence was better than the side effects. We consulted a holistic vet which was cheaper than you'd think and we started chinese concentrated crystal stone. As we weened her off the proin, we added the concentrated crystal stone and it worked. The other symptoms went away. She sleeps through the night, doesn't pant, and is more relaxed. She's been on the holistic meds for two weeks and so far so good. She rests well, no panting, and it doesn't impact her kidneys and liver the way proin does. I should also point out that the proin cost me 100 bucks for 30 days and the crystal stone is about 60. You have options but ultimately, it depends on your dogs reaction.

Proin ER has made a huge difference for my 7-year-old White German Shepherd, Skye. She was having frequent accidents due to urinary incontinence, but after starting this medication, the change was almost immediate. The once-daily dose is super convenient, and she hasn’t had a single accident since. Skye hasn’t experienced any side effects, and she seems much more relaxed and confident now. I’m so relieved to have found something that works.

My 125 pound Newfoundland has estrogen deficiency incontinence from her spay. We first started on Incurin and that worked for her. However after about a year, her behavior changed. She was not settling easy a few hours after her dosage. She seemed hyper. I talked to our vet and we decided to try and see if Proin Er would work better. She has been on it for 4 months. This one also works for the incontinence and she settles fine. We did a 2 week post check after she started this medication. Our vet wanted a blood pressure check which had me worried because we didn’t have to do that with Incurin but it came back fine. If you’re reading the reviews I’m guessing you have concerns. This is just our experience with both medications. I would recommend either medication to try and then watch your dogs behavior longer term to see if you notice changes.

Works Wonders

Our 7 month old puppy unfortunately has spay incontinence and this pill has worked a miracle. We initially tried alternative medicines like nutrivet bladder control and incurin, but those only worked 70% of the time. Our dog wasn’t initially approved for Proin due to high blood pressure, but has since gotten that under control. Proin has worked for her 100% of the time since her first pill. I don’t think one medication is necessarily better than the other, but rather has to do with your individual dog’s condition and needs. I’ve heard incurin worked best for other dogs so it really all depends on your dog. If you’re dealing with a similar issue I say you give this pill a try. We haven’t noticed any side effects with this medication.
