Sturdy, Too Big Though

My complaint is about the description of the product, which gives the maximum height of 81 inches but doesn't clearly display the range. Seeing that the top portion can be compressed down, I bought this and I measured 75.5 inches. I hoped that it would be just enough, but unfortunately this door was too long even when the top was slid down the entire way. Otherwise, the product feels solid. One of the brace bars however isn't aligned properly (see photos). We have a Dutch-German Shepherd so got the flap for a Large Dog. Perfect size except for the Length of the glass door. I chatted with Chewy Customer Support to see if they have a product slightly shorter and they did. I thought I would have to return this item to replace with the other. Instead, they refunded me and told me I could donate the Item I have to an Animal Shelter. I'm hoping the other size will work for us so I don't end up stuck with 2 doors. I still DO recommend this so far, but the product description is the issue.

We purchased this doggie door for our 14 pound mini labradoodle who stands 17". The medium size is perfect. We are choosing not to permanently install it but lift it in and out of the sliding door track when we leave the house for an extended time and every night/morning. I work from home so I'm able to use it most of the time installed. Kind of hassle but we don't live in a neighborhood where we feel this flimsy door would keep us safe - one swift kick and the door would break; nor could we set our alarm if we didn't take it out - we wouldn't able to completely shut and lock the slider. My husband had to install additional weather stripping on the side of the doggie door that is against the actual sliding door for a tighter seal, although it is not completely air tight. Fortunately, we don't live in a really cold climate and have not noticed any drafts. Our dog is using it all the time now and we're glad we bought it. I have attached three pictures - the first one is with the pet door installed and the sliding door closed, the second one is with the pet door installed and the sliding door open and the third one is with the pet door in the middle of the track - where it is when I lift it on and off the track.

Why we waited I have no idea. This door was super easy to set up. We are only using it for temporary installation, not permanent, as we need to remove when we leave the house or overnight so our security alarm will work. So nothing was attached permanently. All I did was assemble the door, snap it into place (there is a spring-loaded adjustment at the top so it will automatically adjust to height) and slide our door up to it. It is as easy as putting in or removing a sliding door screen! I didn't even need to install the weather strip as I didn't feel any cold air coming in (and it is below freezing out). It took our dogs about an hour to figure out how to use it and they have been running in and out constantly ever since. I was worried about them jumping up on it and knocking it loose but that hasn't happened at all. This is a great door and a great value for the money! Love it and so do our doggies!

I bought this instead of the least expensive model for the ability to lock the sliding glass door and pet door and to close off the dog door w the slide up/down panel when needed. However, the panel feature is accessible from the outside only, so anyone outside can just lift this plastic tray off. I called the company to see about this and make sure I’m reading it properly and they said yes it’s supposed to be on the outside but you can just flip it and install it on the inside, so the screws are exposed to the outside. As for the lock., it’s just one of those window locks. When I was on with the company I explained that isnt any real security, rough handling ( if you push against the door before it is completely unlocked for instance) will just break that right off. They suggested that I buy the sliding door security bar that they sell- which defeats the purpose of buying the more expensive door. ( I believe the price difference was about $55. As I was putting this together, I realize there is not much support for the center section so when you line up the door, the center of the door can bow back-and-forth, to the point that the locking mechanism won’t catch, so I put some cardboard on the outside to keep the whole frame of the safe pet dog door against the frame of the sliding glass door. (obviously you can’t stay that way, but I just wanted to see if maybe if I finished all the steps it would tighten things up.) not the case, even the top needed more support. ( see pics to understand ) The option to secure it without screws is with adhesive tape. However, you are first shown to screw the door together and the height panel and at that point you really can’t add a tape to the top and bottom of the door - for the T shaped guide to help-unless you uninstall everything. But even screwed in place, the center is just too wobbly. If you have extra skills as a carpenter, you might be able to figure it out on how to make it sturdy but at this point I can’t and I give up. I really wanted this to work. I like the company PetSafe, I have two of their litter boxes and several other things, but this door is not worth the cost, the frustration. Very disappointing. I have a video of the flimsy door, the T pcs, the cardboard support needed just to get the latch to connect, but maybe the photos are helpful. I cannot have a door with zero security, held together with cardboard supports!
perfect solution

We didn’t want to cut into the siding and it would have entailed moving electrical outlets etc. I saw pictures of this and thought it was worth a try. LIFE CHANGER! Literally! It fit perfectly into the track for the slider. I added the weather stripping that was provided and the glass sweep that stopped any drafts but I did not a fix it permanently to the frame. It took me (alone) a half an hour to assemble, place the window, and add the pre-taped stripping. The only tool I needed was a Phillips head screw driver. I use a large wood dowel to “lock” the door and did not attach any of the latching devices. We live in Syracuse NY- one of the snowiest places in the US. This door is perfect and we feel no draft. LOVE LOVE LOVE this easy solution!

This door was very easy to install. The instructions were good and the weather seal did a good job of filling the gap between the pet door and the sliding door

The only issue I had was with the latch. The instructions refer to the template to use which is further back in the instruction book-I had been looking in the package of the other components. The holes to drill for both side of the latch are VERY close to the edge of both doors and I ended up having to try 3 times to drill appropriate holes even using the template. Overall though I am very happy with the product. Our dog is a 90 pound Chesapeake and the large door is a tight fit for her but she is able to get through it.

We bought a thicker one for tighter fit. Secondly, we chose to add screws at the top to secure the panel to the slider frame so the panel couldn’t be pulled out. The locking mechanism is a bit flimsy. It may behoove you to add an additional lock from the slider to the panel.

But we did not mount this to the door yet which seems like a great choice so you can put on the lock that comes with it and that'll make it possible for you to slide your glass door with the pet glass door whenever you want to use it to step outside etc. I would recommend it
Not quite big enough
It says dogs up to 100lbs, but I disagree. My lab who is 72lbs cannot get through this door. It’s too low for him. My smaller dog who is about 45lbs can fit, but

My smaller dog who is about 45lbs can fit, but even she has to arch her back and bend to get down through it. Wish it came in x-large! Otherwise easy to install and seems like it’s sturdy. Maybe my smaller dog will get used to it, but she’s not loving it so far lol.
