First, if my dog was eating this on taste alone he’d give it a 5/5. As the one with opposable thumbs and ability to read I’m giving it 3/5. I didn’t anticipate using this as a complete meal, my dog is a giant breed and I knew it would be impractical. He’s 12 and on daily meds now, and has never been a huge eater, so I’m always looking for quality toppers to entice him to eat and hide pills in. This works for that, but isn’t even a practical choice as a meal topper. Even a dog under 10lbs would need close to a full container each day (my 104 beast would need 3), so you really don’t need a plastic tub for storage because you aren’t storing it for long. The tubs take up way too much room in the freezer, plus the amount of packaging waste between the shipping container and individual 12oz tubs is wasteful and frankly more than I want to deal with. There are so many better packaging options out there. In terms of the food quality itself, the taste is clearly appealing to my dog but the ingredients are less than appealing to me. When I chose the venison I (erroneously) thought it was one of the few without potatoes as a main ingredient, but once it arrived I saw they are the second ingredient. Pasta and potato starch are also high in the list. Personally, I wouldn’t feed dry kibble with that ingredient list so while I’m fine using this as a topper it would never be a main food source. When this batch runs out my dog will be disappointed that his human isn’t less practical and doesn’t have a chest freezer devoted to him, but unless your dog is tiny and you have a massive freezer I can’t see this being a good option.

Easy to feed, dog approved, kibble topper

Khola is very enthusiastic now when it's time to eat! We added 2 tablespoons of the venison entree to her kibble at breakfast and dinner. Her tail wags excitedly as she watches with anticipation for her meal to be ready. Knowing that I am providing her with ingredients like ground venison, apples, and carrots makes me happy to add this to her diet. She has experienced no digestive issues, but we do only use the product as a topper. I like that you simply thaw the product in the refrigerator and it is ready to use in the same container it arrived in. Seeing her new and improved gusto at meal time makes me happy to keep topping her off with these PetPlates.

I am very, very picky about what I feed my dogs. They are raw fed for the most part. This appealed to me because venison is one of the proteins they can both eat. My year old puppy has been a little picky so I’ve been giving them a bit of a variety of their raw foods so I put some different choices on their plate along with this. BOTH dogs went for this food FIRST and ate all of it before moving on to the next favorite. This has been a great option for both of them, especially Miss Picky Girl! I’m so happy we tried this. I believe I will keep this on hand all the time as an option.

I have been feeding PetPlate Lean & Mean Venison Entree to our Havapoo as a topper for about a month. Not only does he clean his bowl since he obviously loves the taste, but he now goes to ring his dinner bell about 30 minutes before dinner time. His coat is getting thicker and his energy level is good. He has had no digestive issues with PetPlate and his poop is not stinky as with other moist foods. I feel good about feeding the ingredients in PetPlate.

This food was well packaged with dry ice and padding to ensure that the containers would not be damaged and remained frozen. The food was stored in convenient plastic containers with lids. I do not have long term results to share because I did a trial with six containers. My dog did eat the food with no gastrointestinal issues. I do think that the current cost is going to be a deterrent for those who are feeling the financial pinch most are currently experiencing. If there is a need for this type of diet for dogs with special dietary needs, I think this recipe can be a good option to try.

Lexi is a dachshund and has severe allergies. We tried everything on the market! She’s a picky eater so she barely wanted any food. I found pet plate and decided to try. We’ll she loves it she loves the venison. She was almost 30lbs before starting pet plate she is 13lbs now! She was so overweight itchy and just had no desire to play etc. now her allergies are pretty much gone she’s lost weight and at 11 years old she plays like a puppy now and actually enjoys going on walks etc. we lived at the vet because her paws would become itchy, yeasty and inflamed switching to pet plate has been the best decision I made for my girl. I am so passionate about this brand because I seen with my own eyes how it changed lexis life!!!

Venison is a high quality protein that is low in fat. My whippet has a very sensitive tummy and I love Pet Plate for him. I won’t be able to order this for a few months as our temps are triple digit - I would love to see, and be willing to pay for, an option for additional dry ice in my package. While I could do a large purchase earlier in the year, I risk losing the product to tropical storm/hurricane aftermath. I hope Pet Plate and Chewy will consider an option to purchase additional dry ice.

Watch Out for the Green Beans

I have been feeding my three dogs an expensive, high quality, human grade, air-dried food that required no refrigeration for a long while. I was very happy with it so it was difficult to switch to an even more expensive food that did require the inconvenience of freezing and refrigeration. I did this in order to get the Venison recipe. It is very low fat and I'm hoping the novel protein will help with my dogs allergies. It has nicely chopped ingredients except for the green beans. Some of the green beans aren't chopped as small as the other ingredients. Most of them are between one to two inches. They are tough and have an odd texture almost like wax paper. One of my dogs doesn't care for them so the larger cut makes it harder to get him to eat them. The other two dogs don't even chew their food so I'd feel better about it if the beans were smaller, or better yet, left out altogether. I noticed there is another brand with a similar recipe that doesn't have green beans so that's something to consider. PetPlate seems like quality food although I'm not sure what the pasta ingredient is. It looks something like quinoa but why not just list the type of pasta? I'm not sure pasta has much nutritional value anyway. I'll keep using for a while to see if I notice improvements in my pups.
