Pennington Earth Smart Recycled EcoGazebo Bird Feeder, Green

Such a frustrating feeder. First, came with no box/protective packaging or instructions (but okay, looks simple enough) and arrived with a crack/crack on top rim (last photo) When I poured in seed, the clear part shifted making the center piece off center (first photo) which meant top couldn’t go on. Not to mention the seed that spilled out all over the floor. Emptied it ( not easy and had to find large pan) and tried again, this time with a less agressive approach of scooping seed in with a 1-cup measuring cup. The center didn’t move but seed still comes out onto counter/floor and made a mess. And it was impossible not to get seed in the top part of the center piece which again meant the lid won’t fit (photos 2 & 3) I had to pick out little seeds from the center piece so lid would go on. Apparently you have to get seed into it with a skinny scoop around the outside of that green center tube. Yes it holds a lot and it’s made of recycled materials, but those are about the only redeeming qualities I found. Filling it was extremely frustrating and I probably won’t try again. But Chewy was great as usual!

This review is more about Chewy than these bird feeders. I ordered two and the came in one big Chewy box, not well packed, flopping around loosely. One of the two was broken. Chewy sent me another one and didn’t want the broken one retuned. Received it within two days and it was also similarly broken. So they are shipping another one out and don’t want the bad one returned. I’m hoping for the best and I am writing to compliment Chewy on their excellent customer service. I could be mad and complain about the bad packaging and shipping but things happen. Hard to be upset when they correct their mistakes so quickly and painlessly. I’ve had other similar experiences with Chewy as well. What a great company. Regarding the actual feeder, there are many similar models, made by Pennington. Don’t waste your time with any others because this is the only one where the lid is locked in place with a solid twist nut at the top. I have tried every other version of these and they were all terrible, particularly if you have squirrels. This feeder is solid, as long as it survives the shipping process!

This is a nice feeder. Sturdy. Holds a lot. The one little thing that irks me though, is that when you fill in the seed from the top - the seed gets collected in the top of the inner tube, and it has to be cleared out by hand before the top will once again fit securely in place. I have several of these however, as I think it's still one of the best out there for the price

I've tried metal and wooden feeders, but these are the best -- sturdy, don't fall apart, top piece locks so squirrels can't work the lid off, good size, easy to fill and roof keeps seed dry and acts as a baffle to deter squirrels (they have their own dish on the ground). Good buy from a good company, I've bought a lot of garden pots from them.
