Panacea Insulated Nectar Cooler Hummingbird Feeder, 30-oz

I live in the desert southwestern US. We have a year round population of hummingbirds. The problem is, it often hits over 110F in the summer. Im changing the feeders every other day. I dont want to feed fermented nectar. I am hopeful that this feeder helps extend the life of the nectar. The thing is, this feeder is a glass bottle inside a dark red metal sleeve. The insulation is an air pocket between the bottle and the sleeve. Metal in the desert gets hot enough to fry an egg. So we shall see if this works. I am disappointed in that the bottom of the glass bottle was chipped before shipping. The chips were between the bottle and the metal cap where the hanger is located. It appears to still be useful, but we will see after it has been in the heat.

I love this feeder - it’s sturdy and easy to fill and clean. The hummingbirds found it right away. Hopefully no more slimy sugar water from being in the sun. Subtracted 1 star - because I really, really wish it had a perch. I read where hummingbirds don’t need a perch, but they prefer one. Hovering burns a lot of calories. Giving them a perch lets them take their time feeding and relax. Panacea - please consider adding a perch, or making a perch that could be sold separately. Otherwise it’s great so far.

The "insulation is little more than a metal sleeve, provides some sun protection but little, if any heat protection. The feeder holes are large enough that bees crawl into the reservoir and drown in to syrup creating a bee trap. Not impressed.

I had bees stacked 5 deep in each hole. I tried moving it, rinsing the outside. Nothing worked to keep the bees out. Strangely enough they don't bother my other nectar feeders. Only this one. I hate to return it. I had high hopes for it.
