Spa Day For The Boys

Roughly twice a month we have a spa day here with the ferrets. All four get to have their nails clipped. Which used to mean a lot of bribery using Ferretone form

Roughly twice a month we have a spa day here with the ferrets. All four get to have their nails clipped. Which used to mean a lot of bribery using Ferretone form 8-in-1, a neutrally flavored oil that the ferrets went nuts for. I would take advantage of their (indignantly) licking it off their tummies to hurriedly clip those nails. And then 8-in-1 stopped selling Ferretone. Well, like a good hoarder I bought a case of the stuff and threw it into a chest freezer. Now, so many years later, I’ve come to the last of the bottles. And there still hasn’t been a successor to the stuff. Marshall’s? Nope. The boys treat it like it was Penzoil. I finally found this Norwegian salmon oil that seemed promising. I had started to mix it slowly with the remaining Ferretone to get the boys acclimated. And they still turned their noses up at the stuff when I would put it on my finger solo. I was getting a little antsy, and had started to try anything I read about. And of course, the other issue was that because I had to mix the stuff, it was kept in a jar and not a bottle. I’d have to slosh my fingers through the jar of (increasingly stinky, as the mixture evolved) fish oil and slather it on the recipient’s stomach, than get the clippers with my slippery hands and try to perform advanced nail technique on a temporarily obsessed ferret. And anyone who’s had ferrets knows that they understand the bribe very well, and are in a great hurry to lick that glorious treat off their abdomen before I get the chance to finish the nails. Spa Day has always been nerve-wracking, stinky, slippery, and something I enjoyed getting to the end of. Right before we got this product, we got Dave. Dave is the 4th ferret in the business, and while I knew the bribery patterns of the other three (and they knew mine), Dave was a wild card. The rescue said he was three years old, but I doubt he was even half that old. See, Dave is BIG. And he’s not just fluff. The little man has some jaw muscles (and leg muscles - he was jumping on the futon within a week, something the other guys took months to figure out) and though he was quick to give kisses, I didn’t know him very well, nor he me. So the first nail clipping, I was a little nervous. WE were a little nervous. This stuff arrived in a sweet pump-action bottle. Not the squirt-on Ferretone (which was awesome and RIP) but a more precise applicator, like a fancy lotion. I have to admit I looked at it sideways, thinking we’d need a bigger boat. But I thought I’de give it a try. Put some on my finger, and the boys all seemed to like it well enough. But then again, they like me well enough to try anything I give them in a polite fashion. Doesn’t mean they wanted to sit still for it during nail clip time. Found that out the hard/messy way. So I threw caution to the wind and took this stuff out last week for Spa Day. Tried it out with my most forgiving boy Bosco. And success! Not only did he like it, I didn’t have to get my hands oily and risk both his nails and my nerves. I was able to give him just enough to keep him occupied and not turn us both into a can of Starfish. I knew I could use this for my existing business. But Dave needed his nails cut too. And this was going to be the first time. In for a penny, in for some stitches as my dad used to say. So I patted my hand on the futon and this 4 pound behemouth lumbered up to the futon and hoisted himself to my lap. I lay him on his back and was able to use the pump action to draw little squiggles on his impressive fluff. He went to town. His brawny feet splayed out and I started clipping nails (with dry hands! Never before!). I was halfway through the front paws when he decided he wanted more bribing. And I was able to reach over to the table, grab Pampered Ferret, and give him another targeted drizzle of the stuff. And he graciously let me finish the job. I can say that there’s a little fish smell here. It isn’t neutral. But it’s not punching you in the head with it either. Part of that is the bottle and the pump mechanism. You don’t have to have the stuff yawning open, nor do you have to use entirely too much of it. I’ve been inthe position of using entirely too much of the other stuff, and though the boys are super into it, it reflects in the litterbox later. And sometimes the wall. II absolutely recommend this stuff if you’ve been kind enough to get to the end of this old man’s story. This is solid stuff for your business, and it lets everyone get through Spa Day (and Spa Night) not just unscathed, but happy and healthy.

Petite, easy to use, and doesn't smell bad.

My ferret's nails need to be trimmed a LOT. Keeping her distracted makes grooming time a lot easier, and these salmon drops have been a great way to keep her busy for trimmings. Some salmon oil products I've tried tend to have a strong fishy smell. The Pampered Ferret oil lacks that icky smell making it one of my new favorite products. I also appreciate the petite bottle size, making it convenient to store along with my other ferret grooming supplies.

Wow. My boys were so curious about this from the unboxing to the first taste. They loved it! They licked their plate clean and then kept sniffing around on the container in hopes of getting some more. I liked the pump on the container. My only wish is that it was a larger bottle as I will be out of this in no time at all!! Highly recommend!!!

Good oil

Got this to use on my ferrets when clipping their nails. One out of the two enjoys it. Unfortunately my other ferret had an audible gag when he first sniffed it

Got this to use on my ferrets when clipping their nails. One out of the two enjoys it. Unfortunately my other ferret had an audible gag when he first sniffed it. Haven't been able to get him to like it alone as a treat. I have been putting it in his food secretly and he seems to take it ok. It does work very well for my other ferret who isn't as picky and makes clipping nails easier and it's also fun to watch him lick it as a treat!

I always make sure to have some sort of fish oil around for my ferrets and this was a welcome variant of that. What I like best about it is the container it comes in. It’s much nicer than the containers of other fish oils for ferrets I’ve gotten! My ferrets liked it as much as their other supplements so no notes there!

He actually takes it!

My ferret is very particular and I've never been able to get him to take any oils, supplements or treats but he has been accepting THIS oil. He won't lick at it

My ferret is very particular and I've never been able to get him to take any oils, supplements or treats but he has been accepting THIS oil. He won't lick at it but I've added 2 drops to his kibble everyday and he's eaten it. In the past he would throw his food out or just not eat if i added something! It's not super thick and fishy like most salmon oils and comes in a cute glass bottle with dropper which I LOVE! It makes serving it for him a breeze!
