Coconut oil, and this special lotion I bought especially made for guinea pigs made their skin worse to the point where my youngest was clawing his skin open. I’ve been using oxbow skin & coat for about 2 weeks now, and I see less irritation, more shine, and no more clawing. I highly recommend this product. At first my pigs didn’t like the tablets, but with consistency, they are trained to know that after their nighttime snack they get their “treat”.

When I saw these tablets, I hoped they would help, but first I hoped he would eat them. He is very picky and let the first one sit there for a couple days. I sat with him and held it to his nose for a second time, but he didn't do anything. Then after I couple minutes, I looked in on him and saw he ate it! Now he comes hopping over to me every morning and eats them right up. Everything was covered in hair when he started them. It's a common problem that small mammal food is considered ok for all small mammals, so it's partially my fault for not checking the ingredients before purchasing. It's just super disappointing that I now have useless treats. I don't understand how we can know soooo much about rat digestion, and yet rabbit/guinea pig food is constantly recommended for them. Rats don't need grass, hay, etc. Stop marketing grass based treats to small mammals who don't need it!
