Oxbow Essentials Mouse & Young Rat Food All Natural Mouse & Young Rat Food, 25lb.

My young rats love this stuff! I have 2 that are about 4 months or so. The male rats them right away so I only feed him once a day about 10 per day. They are gone right away! His sister takes them and eats one right away then hides the rest. She’s not as fat as him, but they both love the food. I also have a rat that’s almost a year old and I have her one to try as well. She would rather have her oxbow kibble, but the youngsters like it! Will for sure keep buying!

When I originally got my four boys I immediately reached for this food, but to be on the cautious side, I asked the breeder I got them from and my veterinarian what they thought and they both told me that this is NOT good food for young rats! The first ingredient in this food is ground corn, which rats can't digest. So after I got a stern talking to from my vet, I went and ordered the adult oxbow and they've been happy and healthy ever since!

I am so glad that I found Oxbow for our young rats. Unfortunately, I initially fell for the colorful cheap stuff at the Pet Store. Our rats would pick out what they wanted and I was dumping out, over half, of what I’d placed in. The colorful bits, the seeds, the puffed up mystery pieces were just waste. After doing a little research, I came upon Oxbow and their design eliminated “selective eating” and I was sold. I’m happy to say that our three guys have taken to their food, with no waste, and are thriving. I do understand the frustration with the high price point, but I’m willing to pay more for a food that they’ll actually eat as opposed to thinking I’m saving money with the cheap stuff but wasting over half of the bag because they won’t eat it.

This food is just as amazing as their adult rat food, but I do feel that this helps wear down their teeth a bit more in addition to their normal wooden chews. I definitely notice an increase in energy on this brand as opposed to Kaytee and Mazuri, and less dust. Because of the dental aspect, I think that I do prefer this one a bit more as opposed to the adult formula. All of that aside, the quality of the product is exactly what I've come to expect from a top of the line company like Oxbow and the fast delivery and flawless packaging to protect my item is exactly what I've come to expect from the best pet supplies vendor I've ordered from yet, Chewy. I will definitely be ordering this product from Chewy again.
