Oxbow all the way!

I got my first bunny about a year ago and did so much research trying to figure out what would be best and what brands are the best. One of the top results was Oxbow! I transitioned her off of her previous food to the Young Rabbit food when I first got her and it only took about a day before she was perfectly fine with just the Oxbow pellets. And then transitioned her onto the Adult Rabbit food without any mixing when she turned 1 year. She’s a very picky rabbit so to see her love these pellets so much is amazing! I love that the pellets give you so much information about rabbit health and how much of the pellets should be given per pound of rabbit right on the bag. All in all Oxbow in generally is such an amazing brand! They offer so many amazing products for my bunny! I have the cage with play pen that has last me a 1.5 year and is still going strong. As well as just about all her toys are from the brand. When I got her spayed my vet even gave me Oxbow critical care for her! After all the researched I had done on spaying rabbits and knowing how finicky she can be I had set my expectations somewhat low on a super speedy, overnight recovery. But less than 24 hours after surgery she was nibbling on her pellets again! For my bunny who is so incredibly healthy and my wallet, this brand is just amazing!!

In 1997 two adult Dutch mix rabbits, Bunnie and Clyde, were abandoned on my street. Closest rabbit savvy vet was 55 miles away. She recommended Oxbow pellets (and hay). I complied because I knew nothing about rabbits. Have been an Oxbow “everything” user ever since. Oxbow set the standard of care for small critters. I don’t know exactly how old these buns were when I found them, but Clyde was with me over 10 years and Bunnie was with me 14+ years—astonishing lifespans that long ago. After Bunnie’s passing, I soon adopted Sassafras from a shelter in 2011. She was reported to be 2-3 years old at that time. She has been on Oxbow products since adoption, and is so healthy that my vet doesn’t even recommend “senior” blood work because Sassa’s physical exam is so perfect. I attribute the long, happy lives of my bunnies to Oxbow products, especially the timothy based pellets. In 1997 I don’t remember any timothy pellet other than Oxbow. Others were alfalfa based and therefore not appropriate for adult buns.

We have had good luck with Oxbow Essentials Bunny Basics Food. We have a Lilac Doe that seems to be sensitive to higher protein food. After lots of research, we found Oxbow had a little lower protein in it then the other national brands. We have only been feeding for a couple of weeks- several where we were blending in the old food to make the switch, but I see a remarkable improvement in the symptoms we believe were caused by too much protein in her food. I hope we see continued positive results. Pellet size is a little smaller than other brands too, though they are holding together nicely due to the lignosulfonate used to bind the pellets.

I did a little research on rabbit pellets, because my indoor rabbit is overweight. This is one of the better brands as far as the protein fat ratios plus the other ingredients rabbits need. Before this my rabbit had the food with all the colors and like most rabbits he only ate the colorful unhealthy pieces which can lead to selective eating. I found out thru research that I was over feeding him. Pellets should be a small portion to the daily diet. My bun gobbles it down so it must be good cuz he is spoiled. We have the best of both worlds it’s good for him and He likes it. Chewy makes it easy with great selections, reasonable prices, and auto shipment.

I have two bunnies, and I've had the first (and pickiest) one for over 5 years. Both have been getting Oxbow pellets since I got them. For a few months, I stopped buying the pellets because the vet suggested that they're not necessary and the buns only need hay and veggies. She may be right, but my bunnies noticeably lost energy, stopped playing much, and their coats were dull. I started supplementing with these pellets again and now they're energetic, happy, beautiful and healthy bunnies who eat and play all day long even at 5 & 6 years old. We'll never stop feeding Oxbow pellets to supplement their hay and vegetables! (Photo is of them fighting over a bowl even though there's a second one a foot away! I mix some dry herbs in with the pellets)

When I first bought these pellets, my rabbit hated them and used her pellet dish as a litter box. After trying several different ways to feed them to her, such as scattering them in her salads and hay, she still refused to eat them. I gave up on feeding the pellets for a few months and then started introducing them as treats, she loved them!! 6 months later, she hops onto the storage container I store the pellets in and stomps her feet on the lid until I give her the pellets. Thank you so much Oxbow, I love how much my rabbit loves these and I love knowing that they are healthy for her!

Product not packaged carefully. Ripped open, was spilling out of the box.

It is unclear how much product even arrived. For certain the entire bag DID NOT arrive. The bag had a huge hole. It was half empty, food was all over the bottom

It is unclear how much product even arrived. For certain the entire bag DID NOT arrive. The bag had a huge hole. It was half empty, food was all over the bottom of the box, it was spilling out the bottom as I attempted to carry it perfectly level into the house. Once again Chewy didn't put any real packaging in to protect the product. Shipping the product with no regard for successful and safe delivery. Prices are good and the coupons are good, but products always arrive whole from other vendors and this is not my first poor shipping

Consistently problematic

Packaging and shipping have consistently been problematic. Every bag of pellet food arrives open, this time with the top fully unsealed. FedEx disregards delivery

Packaging and shipping have consistently been problematic. Every bag of pellet food arrives open, this time with the top fully unsealed. FedEx disregards delivery instructions, resulting in boxes that are often crushed upon arrival, contents damaged. (The issue is not with the Oxbow product itself.)

I know, bunny folks just love Oxbow! It is a highly respected company with fine products. I love their bunny treats, and so do my bunnies! But... I have read many scientifically sound articles by rabbit experts regarding pellets and what their content should be, and the percentages, etc. of each ingredient. There are comparable options on the market at a fraction of the cost of what Oxbow charges. I bought two 25lb bags with two discounts and free shipping and that brought the price down to what I usually pay for the “other” brand. I have seven house rabbits so it will take a while for them to nom their way through 50lbs. Long enough that I will be able to tell if Oxbow really makes a difference in their fur or anything else. I will say this, the bunnies don’t seem to like the Oxbow as much. It could be just that it was different OR it could be the lack of that nice molasses smell and taste that’s missing! A little bit of molasses doesn’t hurt them. They like it and they are some of the healthiest bunnies I know, and I only have one “full figured” girl. She eats the same thing as the other six so I’m gonna say that, like humans, it’s genetics, not her diet. Kudos to Chewy for such a great deal on the price! Discount for first order with autoship, additional discount with coupon code, plus free shipping!! I told lots of bunny friends and they ordered!! Nose bumps!!

My bunnies love this stuff! And it doesn’t have alfalfa, which is another plus, because I’m not the hugest fan of giving alfalfa to adult rabbits. Also it’s really affordable. i feed it to them in addition to their veggies, and there’s another thing I like about this, it’s sweet enough that they like it, but not so sweet that they won’t eat their veggies, (which has definitely happened to me before with other food) all together completely satisfied with this product!
