About This Item

Details

  • Eco-Straw uses special technology to compress high fiber wheat straw into a pellet that is twice as absorbent as newspaper based litter and will absorb 300 percent its weight in moisture.
  • When wet, Eco-Straw pellets expand and separate, allowing the wet areas to be scooped on a daily basis. This eliminates waste and the litter will last longer than traditional wood shavings. Easier to clean means less time cleaning cages and more time with your pet. Eco-Straw stays in the cage and litter pan and is not easily kicked or thrown out by active pets
  • Natural fiber from the wheat grass plant is not only safe if consumed by your pet, but can be beneficial to the digestive system of rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and other plant eating animals.
  • Eco-Straw is your ideal choice for a safe, dust free litter or bedding for your pet. It is toilet flushable and beneficial to the soil when composted. Heat treatment of the pellets guarantees that Eco-Straw will be mite and insect free.
  • Eco-Straw is cleaner and more hygienic for your pet than wood shavings. Due to the unique characteristics of Eco-Straw the urine will migrate below the surface area thereby moving moisture away from your pet. Eco-Straw will not track or stick to coats of animals with long hair, thus making the owner and pet more content and happy.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

I got this because my parents gave me an ultimatum; find a bedding that has no smell or huge mess, or the chinchillas have to go. Carefresh isn't safe, fleece smells

I got this because my parents gave me an ultimatum; find a bedding that has no smell or huge mess, or the chinchillas have to go. Carefresh isn't safe, fleece smells after 3 days, and pine gets EVERYWHERE. I thought all hope was lost until I saw this. I bought the 20lb bag, which was only just enough to fill both pans sufficently. Its been exactly one week, and I have fallen in love with this bedding! There is NO smell, and the hay and poop make more mess than the litter. I have not cleaned the floor at all in the first pic, and it looks MUCH BETTER than id did after just 2 days with pine bedding. The only negative would be that I have to buy a new bag before every bedding change.

Eye Infection

I saw another reviewer comment about eye infections and I had a similar experience. I bought this product back in June to layer beneath my rabbits' paper bedding for extra absorption. I left my 12-year-old Netherland dwarf in the care of my dad when I went to the beach for the 4th of July. When I got home after a week, her blanket had a circle of orange-brown dust deeply embedded in it. Worst of all, her eye was almost completely white. She does have cataracts, but this was different. I took her to the vet where they prescribed oral antibiotics and eyedrops. It took 2 months to clear up. My blind senior rabbit often falls and needs human intervention to get back up. The eye affected was the side she typically tips over on. It was these eco pellets that got into her eye! They turn into dust once wet. I won't be buying again.

Great for long haired rabbit

This litter is very absorbent, turns to easily-scooped damp sawdust, and is safe for the rabbit if he nibbles on it. Other types of rabbit-safe litter get stuck

This litter is very absorbent, turns to easily-scooped damp sawdust, and is safe for the rabbit if he nibbles on it. Other types of rabbit-safe litter get stuck in my Angora's fur, but this does not. He knocks some out of his litter pan, but that's probably because the pan isn't deep enough, and he's a rambunctious rabbit. I highly recommend Eco-Straw for rabbits.

This litter does a better job controlling odor than any other rabbit safe litter that I've used. Not only that, but when I switched litters, my rabbits literally STOPPED having accidents. Overnight. That was the only thing that changed! I wish it were more affordable, but the improved litterbox habits make it worthwhile. And, if you don't mind me saying, the customer service was fabulous, too!

I have tried everything , trying to litter train our bunny has not been easy. But with this I have finally done it . It not only absorbs all the smells completely, but it’s clean and easy and she will actually go to it now. If you’re trying to potty train a rabbit this is what I have done and it has worked fantastic. I recommend getting the largest litter box that will comfortably fit either in their habitat or area , I got the mashall’s high back litter pan, then just place thin layer of this liter in bottom . It doesn’t need to be deep just enough to cover the bottom of pan. Then place handful of its hay in back corner of litter box and voila ! All done. You want to make sure you get a pan large enough for your bunny to fit entirely inside and I refill hay each day and I just dump out the used litter once a day or every other day depending on how full it is. For anyone else who is having as much trouble as I was , I hope this helps.

No more smelly litter box

We started our baby bunny out with cob litter (with a grate over it so she couldn't get to it) I wouldn't say it worked well, but it kinda absorbed the liquid

We started our baby bunny out with cob litter (with a grate over it so she couldn't get to it) I wouldn't say it worked well, but it kinda absorbed the liquid. However, her box was smelling and required at least two litter box changes a day and the cob was getting terribly wasteful because you would have to throw even the dry cob out with the wet because it doesn't clump. My husband found this and we decided since it was Oxbow which is the only brand we use with our baby rabbit we would give it a try. I am so glad we did! the litter cuts the smell by more than half giving off a kinda sweet corn/wheat smell. It is safe if she accidentally eats it, but we still use a grate to keep her feet clean. when it gets wet it clumps and the pellet form disintegrates. this is especially nice for our purposes because the pellets are biodegradable and can be used in the compost. It is dip-able with a scoop so it even cuts down on the waste of litter. our rabbit usually pees in the same very back corner of her littler box so it can be dipped out without needing a full litter box wash and change like she gets once a week. I would recommend this over paper littler and any other litter for that matter. It is slightly costly on the scale of what kinds of litter are available, But I feel the extra cost is worth it in the long run when you take into account the long life of the product and the fact it is safe if it is accidentally consumed. Being a fanatic rabbit mother that was really important for me.

Mushy and Pricey

I loved the fact that it's pelleted, reduces odors, and is edible. I've had my buns for a few months now, and this is the first litter I got since my lionhead can't

I loved the fact that it's pelleted, reduces odors, and is edible. I've had my buns for a few months now, and this is the first litter I got since my lionhead can't have paper based litter. It does what the description says. When it gets wet it expands and separates, meaning mush.. the mush makes cleaning their litter box so much harder, most of the mush would be scooped but some of it sticks to the litter boxes, it won't come out unless I scrub really hard with steel wool. That's why I took a star away from my review. The other star taken away is for the PRICE. $20 for 20lb... seems like a good deal, a dollar a pound, right? ..No, I use a whole bag of this for 2 dwarf rabbits within one month, and I only clean their litter boxes once a week. I will say I do have multiple litter boxes (4), not big though. That's $20 for barely even a month, if I continued using this product I would have to buy two 20lb bags to last me more than a month and that's already $40.. nope! Sorry oxbow, love your products but this one was a miss for me.

I used a combination of bedding and this is easy to use. I am never greeted by unpleasant smells but I am not sure which of my bedding choices helps so I continue to add this to the combo: paper pulp, wheat pellets and pine pellets. I prefer ingredients that can be added to the compost pile

Decent litter

I bought this to use with my cats. At this point, I’ve tried every kind of litter there is after my former favorite brand switched formulas. Anyway, this DOES NOT clump. When the pellets get wet, they break apart. Because of this and the fact that my cats move the litter around when covering their business, I’m not sure how well the company’s claim about easily scooping clumps holds up. Because of the pellet size, tracking is very minimal, which is nice because I live in a 500 sq ft apartment and don’t want litter in every nook and cranny. I don’t use a real litter scoop with this, but instead a big plastic ladle to pick the poo out and stir the litter. The odor control is amazing, but a cloud of dust was created when I first poured the litter out. However, when scooping and stirring the litter, I don’t see any dust. So far I’m happy with the litter, but time will tell how well it holds up, how often it will need to be changed, and ultimately whether or becomes my new go-too litter.

Saved my daughter's Chinchilla

We acquired a chinchilla about 6 months ago, my daughter's friend could no longer keep him, (we are complete suckers for animals) so we got the little guy. He came with some fleece blankets to use as bedding, those smelled awful and he chewed them. We tried puppy pads, those needed changed twice a day and barely made the smell tolerable. Plus, if he was bored he'd reach his little hands through the bars, grab the pad and chew them. Something had to change, we were spending way too much money on puppy pads, they weren't effective and we were worried about him eating them and the fleece was not any better. This stuff is a miracle. There is no odor in my daughter's room. The chinchilla has no interest in eating them. We placed a puppy pad as a liner and placed the pellets on top, so we've not had any of the "mush" problem other reviews mentioned. I like the fact the straw pellets can go into the dog poo compost pile and not into the trash.
