A squeaker is built into the Small and Medium Hedgehogz, but in sizes Large to Extra-Large, there’s a grunting squeaker and jingle ball for added fun.

I am interested in possibly buying a stuffed hedgehog for a Golden Retriever. What size would you recommend?

Breeds like Golden Retrievers can vary in size, which makes it hard to predict what the best size for each breed would be. We recommend measuring your dog's snout, or current toys that they enjoy and comparing those to the dimensions of the 4 different hedgehog sizes.

Super dangerous (unnecessarily)

My pup enjoyed this hedgehog for a short while before destroying it (death by squeaker removal) but what was highly concerning were the multiple plastics parts ranging

My pup enjoyed this hedgehog for a short while before destroying it (death by squeaker removal) but what was highly concerning were the multiple plastics parts ranging from a long expandable tube, to a small button and a plastic bag, filled with more plastic. This, having 2 plastic zip ties around it. This is beyond plastic overkill - and - extremely dangerous. There are SO many ways to make safe and sustainable toys - this is not one of them. Would NOT recommend for any living creature. It would be awesome if Chewy started to vet the toys, and to put restrictions on the products they sell. It would further their commitment to providing high quality toys they not only standby, but products they want to promote based on their minimal environmental impacts, material choice and high quality.

Over the years of being with my favorite girl, we’ve tried a variety of toys. The only soft toy that Dory continually goes to and plays with independently is her “hedgie”. The best feature of the toy is the grunting noise from the center squeaker. Even after spinning like a tornado and slapping hedgie everywhere, playing hide the hedgie around the house, and classic fetch, these old toys are still like new to her. If the center grunting squeaker ever gives out, a simple ziplock baggie and zip tie fix it up like new and it gets sewn back into the hedgie. We have quite the collection, and when one hedgie gets a little too torn and tattered, we order a new one to join the group. Seeing Dory light up each time we pull a hedgehog out of the box is worth it every time.

Dangerous filling

The filling in this toy had a squeaker and cotton filling that was separated...your typical filling in dogs toys. Then there was a seperate baggie with a breathing

The filling in this toy had a squeaker and cotton filling that was separated...your typical filling in dogs toys. Then there was a seperate baggie with a breathing tube and tiny pieces of plastic all inside the bag. I have NEVER seen anything like this in any dogs toys. Be careful what you get your dogs as they can choke on this. This was absolutely not ok and dangerous for my dog. She could've choked and died on the tiny pieces of plastic and why was there a breathing tube in there?

My schnauzer loves toys! He destroys them. However, I was hoping this would last longer than a day before he was able to destroy it. As soon as he broke through the material, we have to find the squeakers so he doesn’t swallow them. However, we let him continue to to tear apart the stuffing because he was having fun. Overall, good toy, but was hoping for a little more durability.

Simply The Best

"Big Hedgie" (the Jumbo size) is Juno's favorite toy. She constantly keeps it in her mouth, so it rubs threadbare. Therefore, we replace every time she unstuffs

"Big Hedgie" (the Jumbo size) is Juno's favorite toy. She constantly keeps it in her mouth, so it rubs threadbare. Therefore, we replace every time she unstuffs it. It's totally worth the replacement, though. We are on #12 and she got her first one for Christmas 2018 (2 years ago tomorrow). Big Hedgie goes everywhere with us, travels with us, etc. It is the only toy she absolutely will not share with the other dogs in the house, and she cuddles with it every night for bed time. Juno and Big Hedgie watch the sunrise together every morning (pictured). It's chewable, snuggleable, tuggable, nappable, squeakble, honkable, fetchable, and lovable. Juno is emotionally lost without a Big Hedgie to love on. These toys are well-made for a giant plush toy. The most susceptible-to-ripping seams are the seams attaching the face to the body, but they're easy to mend with a quick whip stitch by hand.

The description says it has fewer seams for less tearing but the sides tear just from my dog holding it in her mouth and biting down to hear the squeak. She’s really spoiled and has three dozen or so toys and this is the only one she tears and she does it without even trying Despite this fact, I have probably purchased over 100 hedgies or more since her first one in 2020. She won’t go to bed without it and tries to sneak them out of the bedroom all day.

Missy LOVES Henry!

I take care of ordering for my elderly mother's account at Chewy. She is on auto ship, and on this last order, I noticed my mother had been paying shipping charges. She was about $5 short to qualify for the $49+ free shipping, so I called Customer Service and one of the agents help me find a stuffed toy for her dog. We found a large hedgehog that was SO darn cute! It was added to her order, but my mother didn't know we had done this. Her order now qualified for free shipping, so it ended up costing less for the toy! So worth it!! When her order arrived, my mother was so surprised to find Henry Hedgehog in the box with her dog food! Her dog, Missy, took to Henry right away (see photo). She sleeps by him and they are now best friends! THANK YOU CHEWY!! We are so pleased with your service, the dog food, and Henry. Next order, we are already set up to have a stuffed alligator be the surprise for my mother (Lol!) I've already named him Alex!

I bought this for my almost 1 year old Doberman because the description said it was durable “tough enough to withstand your pup’s chewing actions” and “ Crafted with minimal seams to reduce tearing.” Unfortunately this was not true for my dog. However, he loved playing with it for the duration that he did just expect that it is an expendable toy for a short period of time. He has a stuffed moose toy I had bought at a local pet store that lasted since he has been an eight week old pup. I was trying to find an another similar toy to vary it up for him. I guess if your dog has teeth, expect it will be destroyed quickly.

New Favorite Toy

My Penelope is really smart. Her toys don’t entertain her very long before she becomes bored. I purchased this huge stuffed hedgehog on a whim and she loves it!

My Penelope is really smart. Her toys don’t entertain her very long before she becomes bored. I purchased this huge stuffed hedgehog on a whim and she loves it! It’s almost as big as her, makes three different sounds and she carries it with her all over the house! I get many laughs when she tries to jump up on the sofa with it in her mouth! She usually makes it on the third try. This toy is well made and cute as can be!

Our boxer puppy’s favorite toy!

We bought “Hedgie” for our boxer pup that was given to her by Santa-Paws. She immediately took a shine to it! Not only did it crinkle and squeak, but it “honks”

We bought “Hedgie” for our boxer pup that was given to her by Santa-Paws. She immediately took a shine to it! Not only did it crinkle and squeak, but it “honks” too! She carries her Hedgie everywhere. Will show him off to everyone. The only con is that this little favorite is not sewn together well. I have bought three more since Christmas (Today is Valentines Day) so that we can keep them in rotation. This way if one (or several if I don’t have time) are put away awaiting surgery she has another to play with. She always gets disappointed after she realizes she gutted her favorite toy. Fortunately she never swallows or eats the insides. Just enjoys pulling the stuffing out. Every night when it’s bedtime, she will grab Hedgie and take him in to say goodnight to everyone in the house. Never once putting him down. Her little bum bum wiggling away. She will go to our bed where she sleeps, puts her front paws on the mattress, and will look over her shoulder at you with Hedgie in her mouth waiting to lay down. She will then lay down, get wrapped in a blanket and suckle on Hedgie’s nose til she falls asleep. I would give this a 5 star rating if it were not for the fact that they do not hold up well, outside of that, this is the best toy ever! I actually just got a couple more. I can only sew them so much before I have completely re-sewn the whole toy, and that’s just too time consuming and eventually not much to fix.
