What size is appropriate for a 82 pound adult Great Pyrenees (relatively small for a Pyr)?

What is the actual length of the back of each size of jacket? I have several already but they don't have a size on them and i am trying to figure out which size i am missing. Thanks!

Answer by ChewyJul 23, 2019
The length down the back of the X-Small jacket is approximately 8.5 inches long. The length down the back of the Small is approximately 11.5 inches. The length down the back of the Medium is approximately 11.5 inches long. The length down the back of the Large is approximately 16.5 inches long. The length down the back of the X-Large is approximately 19 inches long.

Does this jacket have a D ring for a leash?

Answer by ChewyJul 22, 2021
This life jacket does not have a D-ring attachment.

Does the XS have one lateral handle on the back or two vertical handles? On other sites this modal is shown with one, which is what I want but the pic here is two for some reason. Thanks

Answer by ChewyAug 21, 2019
The X-Small and Small life jackets will have a single handle, lengthwise, along the back. The bigger models will have 2 handles, along the back.

I'm in the (slow) process of trying to get my dog to love swimming in preparation for when she's older and needs a low-impact exercise. The facility I took my dog to recommended Outward Hound for a lifevest, and I'm very happy with the results. It was easy to put on and adjust. It allows my dog the freedom to move both in/out of water and also has two handles along the dog's back so I or anyone else in the water can lift her up. While my dog may never be a water-loving pup, I'm so happy I have a bit of extra reassurance just in case.

I purchased XL for a lanky deep-chested 90lb chocolate lab and L for a short 65lb black lab mix. Both were at the top end of the measurement for their size, but we got the L for the smaller one just in case. The smaller lab can wear the XL but she is a strong swimmer and it tends to keep her a little too high up in the water which interferes with her paddling. The handles hold firm when repeatedly hoisted up out of the water. The larger lab wears his twice a week for therapy, suspended in a pool by the handle. Sometimes he wears it so we can help him up and down from vehicles and stairs. It adjusts well to fit and does not bother his arthritic back or shoulders. His chest strap does tend to slip from the tugging during therapy and needs to be retightened every few sessions. The belly velcro is stretchy but secures firmly and cushions the belly straps well. They both can comfortably wear them for hours and do not shy away from them. All seams are intact. There is some wear on the handles but we are pretty rough on them. The instruction feels like a corrugated plastic shell surrounded with foam, so it is stiff and light and does not get water logged. We hang dry them overnight in the house and then store them in a swim bag. No smell or mold so far even when forgotten with wet towels for a time. The straps have velcro on the tails to keep them from dangling but they get loose occasionally. Definitely would recommend.

I got the life jacket for our upcoming Corgi Pool Party. The jacket fits perfectly on Gustaff and he was comfortable enough to swim and walk around with it. It was a highly recommended brand by our group and I saw quite a lot of Outward Hound variations. We weren't worried at all when Gustaff was running around the pool with the other Corgis. It was his first time swimming too! I also want to mention the great customer service here for a bit. I actually ordered a XS like jacket but it was too tight for Gustaff. I called them and expected to do the usual process of returning and exchanging the jacket. I thought I couldn't get a new jacket in time. Instead, the rep offered to do a refund and placed a new order for a S jacket to ship out right away. She also said I could donate or give the XS jacket to another dog owner who needed it, which we are going to do! Thanks Chewy.com!

If you're looking for peace of mind, then here's the life vest for you! This life vest is perfect for my 67 lb. Siberian Husky. She is a great swimmer, but is getting older and I just wanted to make sure that she could spend a lot of time in the water without being afraid that she would drown. The handles on this vest are great because you can pull your dog in with ease. The sizing is a little tricky and I ended up with an XL (even though if I went by the weight, she would have been just a large). I ordered the large first and the Velcro flaps just barely touched and it was obviously too small, so I ordered the XL and it fits perfect! Do yourself a favor and size up (especially if you want them some room to grow). She has plenty of room in the XL, but you can see by the pictures that it fits her perfectly. She never really likes "wearing" things, but actually put this on with no problem.

I bought the large for my 9-month old/65lbs Golden Retriever. She wore it out on her first trip to the lake and on a paddle board and let me just say, this life jacket totally gets top marks. It fit well, stayed securely fastened, was very buoyant, and the perfectly positioned handles on top held up beautifully. My girl kept falling/jumping into the water and swimming around, but couldn't get back up onto the board, the handles made it very easy to grab and pull her up without straining or the vest getting misadjusted. It also helped that when she got tired of swimming but was still too far out of reach for me to grab her that the chin floaty part helped keep her head up. Absolutely 10/10 recommend.

Puppy's 1st Paddle Boarding!

I read a lot of reviews on a lot of products and I found so many great reviews on this brand so it's what I ordered for my wheaten puppy's 1st Paddle Boarding experience! If you are looking for safety and quality without spending $50 on a life dog jacket (trust me the product looks like it's around $50 and the quality is up there as well!) and still want your pup to look stylish doing any kind of water activities while keeping safe then this is what you need. I bought size small and he was about 8.5lbs when he first used it. As you can see on the photo it is a bit long by about a couple of inches but he has since gotten bigger (he's now 12lbs) and he still fits in it. I think for us we will only be using it for this season, but for the price I got it here on Chewy, I say it's so worth it. When he first went paddle boarding, he did jump off the board (he was scared with the paddle at first!) but my fiancé easily scooped him up because of the handles on the life jacket! The snaps were also really durable as well. I really was impressed with this product!

i ordered 3 Outward Hound PupSaver RipStop Dog Life Jackets on a Sunday night, which I needed by Friday. I ordered 2 Larges and 1 Medium. They came on Tuesday. I found out I really needed 3 Larges. I called right away and they gladly sent me out another Large and didn't charge me for shipping. My three dogs are between 45 and 66 pounds. Their shoulder heights vary from 21"-26". The measurement from the neck to tail varies from 19"-"-25". Their neck circumference was between 16"-19". The circumference of their necks vary from 17"-21". The vests are adjustable around the neck, the chest and the lower waist area. The flap under the neck fit comfortable on all my dogs. The velcro doesn't touch the dogs skin or fur area where it would cause them to be uncomfortable. They could run around without being constricted. They looked proud in them. It's like they knew fun was coming their way. They asked me to donate the size medium Life jacket by Outward Hound to an organization for dogs. Since my dogs are all rescues I was very impressed with that suggestion. I got the new size Large on Thursday in plenty of time for our vacation to the lake the next day with our 3 dogs (kids). I have ordered from chewy.com in the past. I have found that they have great products that are made with high quality material. Great Job Chewy.com I will be a loyal customer always and will pass around the great service and quality products your company provides to my friends and family!

Otis has always been a big fan of water, but never really liked to go where his paws couldn't touch ground. Until now! My boy has been a swimming fool since we got this jacket! Overall, this is a great jacket! It seems to be well constructed, it keeps him afloat, and the handles are strong enough to scoop this 60+ lb goofball into the boat. The reason I'm only giving it 4 stars is because of the neck flap, and the flimsy buckles. The neck flap is not adjustable. After I adjusted the vest, it was only partially under his neck, mainly pushing on the side of his face. He kept trying to bite it so I just cut it off. The buckles though... I just don't see them lasting very long. They feel as flimsy as they look, and I find myself adjusting the belly straps a lot more than I should. It's an awesome product for the price though! I have no regrets.

This is our fourth jacket for 3 different pets over the past 7 years. I keep buying them so let that speak volumes alone. The design keeps getting better but it always seems 2 steps forward one step back process. First the better - This is our first with 2 handles. Past models had one handle not built into strapping that would eventually tear away at the fabric. No more with this one. The handles are the straps for the underbelly keeping the vest on and a vast improvement to older design. Our dogs live on our boat with us in the summer so we are pulling an 80# dog out of the water. Yes - handles are important. Strap design under the neck is also improved. My two negatives, I wish they would go back to the material used for the very first one we bought. Our first vest is still going strong. Also, the underbelly used to be all velcro, now it is just 3 strips of velcro. The problem, with just three strips is that it sticks to the material in between the strips and can be a hassle when putting the vest on. I view both changes as a quest for cheaper materials for cost savings measures. Even so, IMHO this is the best vest on the market and money well spent. We have Boxers and have two L and one XL vest. Used for boating.

I bought two of these jackets size large for my 65lb Labradors. They fit great. I take my dogs kayaking with me and they seem very comfortable wearing them the entire time. Today we went to dock the kayaks and both dogs jumped off the dock into the water. Other kayakers were watching wondering how I would get them out of the water since the dock is about a foot drop. My one lab is a bit more lean at 62lbs. I grabbed the handle on the top of the life jacket and pulled him right out. I was then worried about my other lab who is about 67lbs I though for sure the handle would snap. It did Not! Very easily lifted him right out of the water and everyone watching was amazed including me! I love these. They are holding up great and are very durable and strong!
