Approximately how many cups are in a bag?

Answer by ChewyJan 16, 2021
There is approximately 4 cups of kibble in every one pound of dry dog food. The 13-pound bag holds 52 cups and the 25-pound bag holds 100 cups.

My dog just turned 1 year. Can I still feed him this? What is the maximum age this food is for?

Answer by ChewyJun 09, 2021
A puppy is generally considered an adult when they stop growing taller. Typically for small breeds this is between 9-12 months, medium breeds around 12 months and large breeds closer to 15 months. We always encourage reaching out to your vet for the best results for your little one.

Regarding the large puppy variety, at what temperature is the dry good extruded?

Answer by ChewyFeb 10, 2022
The extrusion process cooks ORIJEN ingredients gently in their own juices with steam to ensure maximum flavor potential. Because they use such a high quantity of fresh and raw ingredients, most are only cooked once. Their cooking process typically cooks at temperatures between 90-115 degrees Celsius. A lower temperature ensures that the nutritional integrity of the ingredients remains in the end product. All finished products are subjected to pathogen evaluation before release and shipment. No product is released for shipment until all tests for food safety and quality are confirmed to be favorable.

Which countries are the ingredients of Orijen sourced from?

Answer by ChewyFeb 23, 2023
The ingredients in this formula are sourced from the US, Canada, and other countries.

Best quality commercial kibble on the market!

As an owner of a growing giant breed puppy I take nutrition and his growth quite seriously. I have always been a fan of Orijen's philosophy, recall record, and quality of ingredients they source. The recent changes to their formulas this year could have not made me happier. They made changes to improve the protein sources and reduced the vegetable sources in their formula as well as making it more "perfect poo" friendly. My English Mastiff puppy has been on this formula since we brought him home from the breeder and is thriving. The vet had only fantastic things to say about his body condition and his coat. His energy is great, he has little to no doggy odor even going weeks to a month without a bath (as a puppy who gets into everything that is even more impressive) and enjoys his food. Fantastic product and I recommend Orijen to anyone looking for a Premium quality kibble. Chewy.com had prompt delivery and shipping as well as secure packaging for our order. Not to mention the best pricing we found for this product.

I was really concerned about the growth and happiness of our Newfoundland puppy. As soon as we got her from the breeder at 8 weeks old, we started her on Orijen large puppy. I had done a lot of research and still firmly believe that Orijen is the best pet food on the market. She is now turning one year old and has grown beautifully. She is healthy, the perfect weight and height and shows awesome activity levels. I am preparing to switch her to Orijen's adult formula as I am that thrilled with the puppy formula's performance. However, Orijen is not carried in any of our local stores. I was upset at first, but then found Chewy. Chewy's service and autoship have been outstanding. I can't imagine another way to buy our pet's food. Our Christmas card this year was hand written, AND, when WV was hit with a public water supply crisis, Chewy sent my wife and I a box of chocolate covered strawberries. Needless to say, the service is as close to perfection as possible. That, coupled with great pet food brands, makes Chewy the only place I shop for food or treats. Thanks Chewy!!!

Hands down the Best!

I've tried several different high quality brands for my pack - Taste of the Wild, Wellness, Earthborn Holistic, Blue Buffalo, and Natural Balance. I also fed a RAW diet for awhile, but with meat prices continuously going up, it was just costing me too much. I currently have a 10yr old yorkie, chihuahua, and 3 german shepherds. My yorkie has a very sensitive stomach, and one of my GSD's is allergic to grains, so it is not easy finding a food that they all like. For as long as I can remember, the yorkie and chi have been EXTREMELY picky eaters, and only nibbling a bit here and there when they were really hungry. I found the Earthborn Primitive to be a really good brand and much cheaper, but with a new GSD pup, the calcium levels were just too high for a large breed pup, and I wasn't as happy with the ingredients in some of the other grain free lines they have. So I decided to try the Orijen. The first week or so saw a lot of runny stools, but the pack quickly adjusted. The best part is that they all LOVE this food! They all dance around at meal time like I'm serving up steaks or something. I don't even have to buy treats for training anymore. My new pup will work just as hard for the kibble. The only downside to this food is the cost, but when you compare it to other brands, I think it's worth the price. My dogs all have healthy, shiny coats and are maintaining good weights, so we are a very happy pack!

I've always fed my dogs BB Wilderness. They loved it but when we brought home our Percy, he wouldn't eat much of it. It gave him horrible gas, and other stomach issues. The gas, for such a little boy he could clear out a room in no time. Vet put him on Flora and something for the other issues. Didn't help. Brought a bag of Orijen large breed pup. Started to switch him over slowly. The thing is he would pick out the Orijen and leave BB. Day 2, just put the bowl of Orijen down and nothing else. He ate it right up, preparing for Major Stomach issues, I went on watch...nothing happened, no potty issues and NO GAS!!! He went to solid. I'm sold!!! So excited to have found Orijen, I had never heard of this one. Thank you for making quality food for my pets and oh, my two cats love to eat his food now as well....only I just purchased a big bag of BB for them. I'll be switching my cats over soon!!!

Orijen has really developed an oustanding mix and supply chain for their high quality foods! I have a Gordon Setter and quickly transitioned him to Orijen when I received him at 8 wks. He's now 6 months old and I get constant raves about what a handsome dog and shiny coat he has. You can just tell he's a happy well feeling dog on this food, which I think contributes to his great healthy energy. His gas does stink but I think that means the food is rich and fresh. His teeth and eyes look great with minimal shedding happening. I'm not sure what the typical growth rate is so I can't say he's growing slow, but seems to be developing nicely muscle wise. I would highly recommend the extra money it takes with this food to get your dog feeling great!

I own two catahoula leopard puppies and as a health and fitness coach, I found it hypocritical if I didn't provide the highest standard of nutrition for them as I hold for myself (I would prefer a raw diet but I just don't have that kind of time). Orijen was recommended to me from a dog trainer who is extremely particular in what she feeds her dogs. After thorough side-by-side ingredient research across many brands, Orijen proved to be the very best. I even looked at switching recently to save a bit of money but I just can't do it. The competitors' ingredients just don't compare. My pups are wild and crazy and always so full of energy with a shiny, excellent coat. I never ever give them a bath because they don't stink and just don't need it. I'm extremely pleased with their slow rate of growth (9 mo. old and only half the weight of their parents) since they are large breed puppies and I believe the formulation of the food is the reason for that. I will use Orijen for life! :)

We got our golden retriever at 10 weeks old. He was very skinny and had a lot of digestive issues with any food. For two consecutive months he had issues gaining weight, I cooked for him, gave him meatballs with eggs trying to help him but he still was a pack of bones. Desperate, I did my research and then came across orijen. I only read great things about this food, so I decided to give it a try. I don't know when or how it happened but my baby had grown to a big and beautiful 60 pound golden retriever, his coat is shiny and so touchable, he smells amazing, he poops twice a day at the same time, firm stools that are so easy to pick up. My baby is beautiful and I know all this happened when I started feeding him Orijen. If you are thinking about getting this food, stop thinking and get it for your baby, I guarantee you won't regret it. I know the price it's a bit expensive but Oh boy it's worth it!

The only kibble my spoiled pup will eat dry!

This is hands down the only brand of kibble my 6-month-old spoiled husky will eat by itself. Huskies have a reputation of being picky eaters. Mine was no exception. Prior to switching to Orijen, I had to mix in all kinds of wet food to get him to even go near his food. Since switching, he gets super excited every time he hears the kibble being scooped out of the bag. He eats it now all on its own, no need to mix wet food (although I occasionally still mix some wet food just because I want to spoil him some more). Just a word of caution, my husky did have a week of diarrhea when we first switched him at 3 months old, just I think maybe we transitioned a little too fast, though we adhered to the transition guidelines on the bag pretty closely I think. We stopped for a few days then tried again, that time no issues. So I'd advise people to transition even slower than what the bag suggests. Otherwise, my pup is happy, healthy, and energetic as ever. The shiny, thick coat (see pic) is a bonus!!

Worth every penny

I've been buying Orijen for my huskies since they were 6 weeks and they LOVE it. Recently I had to switch them to Purina then another high quality brand since Orijen was getting a bit pricey but they would not eat it so I thought they were getting sick or something I switched them back to Orijen and they eat it all right away. I was told by the vet that the "best" puppy food was Purina puppy chow since apparently Orijen has a lot of protein so i decided to try it out but I noticed that they would shed a lot more than the usual and their fur did not look that great like it did before though I didn't think the food had to do anything with it but I was wrong. I understand that huskies shed but normally my oldest sheds but not as much that is not noticeable unless you pet him you can really see it since a bunch of hair comes out luckily since I switched them back the fur started to look better again and the shedding is not as bad as it used to be. Orijen might be a bit expensive but honestly it is worth it, if you want to give your puppy good food then definitely try it out.

I was blessed with my Suzi Q, a Bloodhound puppy at 8weeks old. She was on a grain-full food when I got her and acted like she was always starving. She also was sleeping only a few hours at a time even at night. I researched to find the best food for her and found this. The first day Orijin arrived (best price found on Chewy), I started to mix the food. I then read that someone just switched over without gradual mixing and had no loose/runny stool. So, after a day and a half, I just switched completely over without mixing. Perfect stools :) Also, the day I switched her over, she started sleeping all night (what a relief). She is growing at an excellent rate and is so happy with her new food. She likes it so much that I use it as a treat for training too. She is now 10-weeks old and is already Sitting, Staying, Freeing (release), Shaking, and Down (to lay down). I am sooooooo very happpy with this food and I am so appreciative of the price, auto ordering, and free shipping by Chewy. They are the Best!!!!!
