No matter how you look at it dogs need to consume the same # of calories they metabolize to keep their weight stable. When a dog is hungry they have no clue why they can't have more to eat. There is just no way to help 'them understand. Remember the ingredients are to give low cal nutrition with volume. Ingredients such as cellulose are necessary. Hunger can cause extreme naughty behavior and can be dangerous if they eat the wrong things. To help my dogs I use this weight management kibble to supplement their regular diet. They are performance dogs participating in agility, herding, obedience, FastCat, Rally-O, scent work, and etc. It would be detrimental to their health to be over or under weight. Being hungry can interfere with reward/treats, working, be a huge distraction during competitions (stopping & eating). That's why I supplement with this kibble daily and it has always been fresh and is sized small enough to not be a choking hazard if my dogs "gulp" their food. I use it dry in forage toys and I add water for multiple reasons. It takes a few minutes to absorb water (absorbs faster if water is warm). My 3 dogs range in wt 43 -- 60 lbs. Box was delivered earlier than expected. To return to low cal discussion, many dog foods are similar in available calories no matter its name or form. Have to read the label for calorie count. Treats used for positive reinforcement can be extremely high in calories and need to be included in the calorie count too. This specific kibble really helps in the overall program of life management, training and performance of my dogs.

Our Enzo is a rescue that has sever seizures almost monthly. He is on several medications as also has thyroid issues. This being said we have to be very careful what we feed him, and wanting to spoil him we tend to over due on the treats. In the almost 4 years we have had him he has gone from 58 lbs up to 82 and once we got his meds correct and switched him to the Nutro lite and added in an extra walk he lost weight and came down to a perfect 68 lbs. This last year we have suddenly developed allergies to the mix and anyone who has delta with this knows the frustration in trying to see if it is like a pollen, food or surrounding type of issue. At one point we had to switch food which we dreaded as can cause more seizurs and after going to an outrageously expensive brand of food found the allergies still persisted. After 9 months the vet believes we have found the cause and have added Allegra to his daily pill regimen and more importantly have gone back to our beloved Nutro and no more scratching and Enzo is back on track and loving his Nutro and the weight is coming off again.
