Does this supplement help prevent hairballs?

My cat is very inconsistent in eating her food. Can I feed this to her from a dropper? Alternatively, could I mix it with a small amount of a squeeze-up type treat?

Answer by TayCMay 22, 2026
I mix it in a churu like treat for my cat and she seems to like it! My cat is very picky so I knew she wouldn’t like it on her dry food.

How do u do a scoop when it is liquid?

Answer by ChewyMar 25, 2024
To use, prior to first use, unscrew cap, remove seal and screw cap back on tightly. Then open the flip top and invert bottle to dispense. Pour into measure level scoop.

Thank you Dr. Katrina & Chewy!

It’s Chewy to the rescue again! My little elderly lady of the house had really gone down. We had already changed litter and food (thank you Josie, the wonder rep!) and after finding Bailey had excess dander I hit up Chewy again for answers. Waterless shampoo, wipes and brushing didn’t make any difference and my lady was doing nothing but eating and sleeping, looking very gaunt, though we were lots better after new litter and different food. Still, she didn’t have any interest in anything. Chewy to the rescue - again. I had the Nutramax in my cart but was still looking when the vet chat box caught my eye. Dr. Katrina was most excellent, very thorough, and she took care of all my concerns in every category. She asked for photos of Bailey’s skin, then suggested the Nutramax. It’s been just two weeks now and we have gotten exactly what Bailey needs. She absolutely loves this on her dry food (I was concerned about that, she’s finicky), but she loves it and will wait until I put the oil on it before she eats. It’s like she’s asking me for it. Her excessive dander has almost stopped (it was really bad). No longer is it a brush filled with dander holding hair together, so I believe in another two weeks we’ll be doing extra well. Also she’s perked up so much that she seems to have found her inner kitten again, even made one leap perfectly up to the padded armrest on the Lazy Boy, something I haven’t seen in a long time! Her ‘sassy cat’ is back, which is fine because that’s how she’d always been, and she’s even played with her mouse, something she’s not done in years (she’s 16+ with bad kidneys). She’s following me around again now, especially to the kitchen. I started feeding her canned chicken and she begs for it. It’s wonderful to see her perk up like this, eating for pleasure and happier, feeling so much better. I had thought she might not live much longer but now she acts as though she’s looking forward to turning 20. She desperately needed the omega 3 in her diet. What a change this has made in both our lives. Chewy, thank you so much for all your help. I don’t know what I’d do without you, the wonderful reps, and the vet chat (my first time). I hope you know how much you’re appreciated. You provide exceptional services in every area. The reps always go the extra mile and Dr. Katrina is wonderful! I’m sure they all are and I’m so very thankful for you! Yes, Bailey loves you too, you send her boxes to get into. God bless you all, and thank you for being the best there is for pet owners and our loved ones. I know I can always count on anyone I speak with, and my orders get here so fast. (Personal ‘thank yous’ again for Josie and Dr. K, you have been so fantastic and have taken LOADS of concern off me. You’ve helped get my sweet little girl feeling young again.)

My cat was recently diagnosed with early stage kidney disease back in Feb, was recommended to add hydra care and this supplement. It was out of stock for some months but finally got my hands on it. Luckily mixed with hydra care and her prescription food my cat has never minded it. I never noticed a smell or anything. As others mention, unfortunately the bottle design could be better, i just wipe down the scoop and bottle with a paper towel after every use. Recently my cat went back to the vet for a check up and her bloodwork is improving! I will continue the same diet since it’s been working well.

I feel as though this product is helping my cat in the long run, but twice now that I've received it, it has leaked in the box. It is supposed to be sealed under the cap, but both times I have gotten it the seal has been broken. I don't know how much product it ends up wasting, but I would say at least a days or more has already leaked out. I'm not sure how to rectify this, and as I said, I do believe it's helping my cat. I've only gotten it twice now, and maybe I'm just unlucky, but it's just a bit disheartening.

I’m sure I was probably talking to an AI bot, but I did the chat with the vet on my cat Jack. Jack was experiencing losing a lot of hair with flaky skin. I set up a humidifier. I was brushing him daily, and I even got him an omega tube food in hopes that it would help. But nothing was helping so I clicked on the chat with the vet. And they recommended this and within one week his skin is no longer flaking and it’s not losing hair as bad. Plus, this is the big plus, he eats it! I put it on his food and he eats it!!! I was afraid that it’d be something. I’d have to try to figure out how to get down him. If your cat has flaky dry skin, you need to try this.

Recommended by vet for cats with arthritis (can help eyes and coat also). After one or two samples (with Churu also in the bowl), Roo decided it was GOOD stuff. She licks the bowl clean every time and is very possessive over it, lol. When I offer her Churu now (cat lovers know how addictive that is), she looks at me waiting for the fish oil! I suspect not every cat would like it but, it's been a success for this girl. Does it work? Not sure we really know but, it's not that expensive and no drawbacks.

Our vet recommended this specific supplement for our arthritic girlie, and after using it for a few months, I would say it’s helping. Our girl is more active and playful than she’s ever been. However, the packaging is awful. It was annoying when we started buying this supplement. We had to set the bottle in a glass because the leaking was inevitable after use, but the bottle has been redesigned and it's 10 times worse. Getting the oil into a measuring device is painful, and it still leaks! Please, please put this supplement into a bottle with a dropper.

my vet recommended this product because my cats skin was dry, itchy, and flakey, even with a balanced diet and brushing. i was told it might take a while to see results but i saw improvements only after a week. the only reason this didn’t get 5 stars is because my cat will eat literally ANYTHING you put in front of him, but was picky about how this tasted at first mixed with his wet food... he got used to it and now he eats it no problem. would defiantly recommend

Recommended by vet and the cats love it

Okay, they love it, but, Nutramax, the packaging and dispenser method is really, really dumb. The pour cap always drips down the side and I end up every morning

Okay, they love it, but, Nutramax, the packaging and dispenser method is really, really dumb. The pour cap always drips down the side and I end up every morning smelling like fish oil. I now transfer it into a dropper bottle which dispenses cleanly for measuring. This SHOULD come in an rx type syringe bottle with an included syringe.

I'm sure the product itself is just fine, but the way the dispensing works on this could be improved. The flip-top cap splatters the oil everywhere, and oil is not fun to remove from clothes and towels. When you pour the oil into the little spoon included for dosing, the spout drools and leaks oil down the side of the bottle. A pump top would be a much better solution. I stopped using it because I got tired of constantly cleaning up leaked and splattered oil.
