Questions & Answers

23 Customer Questions

Are the ingredients in the 15ml and 30ml the same thing? We use a good bit of this in our rescue and the 15ml just doesn't last long enough.

Answer by BryonNov 17, 2024
Both sizes have the same ingredients.

Can this be used as an ongoing supplement?

Answer by ChewyMar 14, 2024
The paste should be given for 48 to 72 hours. Consult with your veterinarian about using the capsules for long-term intestinal health support.

How long will the paste keep once opened? Or does it have to be finished within 48 hours?

Answer by ChewyMay 31, 2019
The probiotic bacteria in Proviable products are protected to ensure viability with storage at room temperature, not to exceed 77° F, for two years. The expiration dates are found on the packaging. If there is concern about storage at temperatures above 77° F, Proviable products can be stored in the refrigerator as long as they are not frozen.

I am giving my dog the proviable probiotics at the moment, but feel she really needs a reset after surgery and being on lots of medications. I’m purchasing this now, should I pause the proviable probiotics until this is finished? Or is the pill the same that I have in the 80 pack

Answer by ChewyDec 03, 2019
Probiotics should be given based on the recommendation of your veterinarian. They are not recommended for pets that are critically ill or that have a suppressed immune system, or in animals that are severely dehydrated or vomiting. There are no known side effects with Proviable when given according to package recommendations. Proviable-KP Paste should only be used for 48-72 hours unless directed otherwise by your veterinarian, as the kaolin and pectin could potentially cause constipation with prolonged use at higher than recommended levels.

I have a PWD with digestive issues. Since he was a puppy (he is now almost 3 years old), I’ve struggled to figure out why he has blood in his stools, abdominal pain, and vomiting. The vet suggested strict diet as those symptoms maybe related to food allergies. While we were working together to figure out what food is the problem, the vet recommended to me Nutramax paste/capsules supplement. I didn’t think about it too much at first because I was too preoccupied finding the cause, but after a few times using the supplement I noticed that my dog is doing significantly better. For example, the blood is his stool was gone within the first 24/48h (depending on how bad his symptoms were initially). And it seemed that he didn’t have abdominal pain. I still have to keep my dog on a strict diet and he needs to take this daily but it is the only supplement that works for him. If your dog has any food allergies (e.g beef, eggs, bacon, meat protein etc), I highly recommend using this product. Other products may use flavors that unfortunately, still cause digestive issues in dogs with allergies. This one doesn’t and it has been a true miracle for my furry friend. I felt compelled to share our story for this reason.

I purchased this item for my cat Countess. She was put on a powerful antibiotic Flagyl to help stop the diarrhea she was suffering from. We’d used this product before with her in the past and it was very effective. Unfortunately, Countess had too much going on at she passed away at 15 years. Even though she didn’t finish the product I know it would have been helpful. I try to keep a box around just in case.

As a product I think this works just fine. I would probably give it 5 stars. I ordered this for my cats. But when the package arrived, the box said it’s for medium and large dogs. What?? So I went back online and looked at my order. My order says, Nutramax Proviable Probiotics & Prebiotics Digestive Health Supplement for Small Dogs & Cats, 30 mL paste, 10 capsules. So I thought, Oh, Chewy just sent me the wrong one. While on my call with the very nice Chewy rep, I realized, even though it says it's for Cats and Small Dogs at the top in big bold letters, 30 mL paste is actually for medium and large dogs.Cats and Small Dogs get the 15 mL paste! Medium & Large Dogs get the 30 ml paste. This is the issue: When you click on either product, the mL amount changes but products both still say for Cats & Small Dogs in big bold letters. I hope Chewy can fix this. It’s a simple HTML fix. But the rep I spoke with and chatted with said, all they can do is pass the info along. And, the screenshot I have here is from a Chewy review of the product warning buyers of the same issue. It has been incorrect online ALL THIS TIME!

Proviable cane vet recommended, over FortiFlora (which Id been using for years). Turns out FortiFlora is single strain, and more expensive. While Proviable has multiple beneficial strains, and is definitely more affordable. My big boy Jabari has developed fairly severe IBD (lakes of foul smelling liquid poop), cause undetermined, so we’ve been trial and erroring foods for him. But mixing in a Proviable capsule into some Churu once a day made a SIGNIFICANT difference on its own. Firmer poops, less discomfort, and now that we added food with grain back IN, he’s pooping normally again for the first time in 9 months. I started noticing a difference with the Proviable, in about 5-7 days. And if I stop giving it to him, within about 3-4 days he’s sick again. So the Proviable 100% makes a huge difference on its own. Highly highly recommend

My 13+ year old pooch has severe diarrhea [as well as poopie incontinence] caused by the effects of chemotherapy. He has to pretty much wear a diaper most of the time now. My Veterinarian Oncologist suggested this a few weeks ago, just after starting his chemo. I use this in conjunction with Metronidazole. His poop does start to take on more form after a few days of this combo treatment, but still remains pretty soft. For an extremely picky eater, he actually loves the paste! Although, he's on other meds for nausea & appetite stimulation, so that might be why he wants it. Overall Proviable combo pack does help with severe diarrhea, but [for my dog's needs] has to be used with prescription medications. Also, he won't eat anything with the capsule sprinkled out on his food [even masked with chicken and broth] so, I have to give it orally via pill pocket.

This probiotic powder is sprinkled on your dog’s food, and it must not have any bad taste because my dog has never hesitated to eat his food because of it. I had a situation where he was really stressed and it resulted in my Cavalier having terrible diarrhea. The combination of the probiotic paste and this powder fixed it. I have continued to use the powder in his food every other day to keep his gut in good shape! I highly recommend it!

This was given to my dogs in the past for severe diarrhea. One of my dogs had been pooping so explosively it looked like something straight from the exorcist. It was awful and nothing was helping until the paste. There were no more issues after I started giving it to them and they just had mildly mushy poops for the rest of the day. By the next they were perfectly fine again. None of the other probiotic prebiotic supplements have done that half as well. This is my go to now whenever they start to have problems.

This is great to have, just in case your fur baby is having a bad diarrhea situation for the past couple of days or so. A vet had given this to me when I had brought her in. This literally worked like magic! I travel a lot with my fur baby and I love keeping this with me. The moment I see her have a bad diarrhea situation, that’s when I know she needs this probiotic. She has no problem taking the capsule and the paste. Not sure if this will help anyone because I know some fur babies don’t like taking capsules or paste. I would open the capsule and pour the powder into her food and hide the empty capsule into the food, I would also put the paste in the food as well. I do not mix her food with the probiotics. What I mean is, I would just cover the powder and empty capsule with her food above it. As for the paste, I put it on top of the food and sprinkle some of her food right above it. I hope that makes sense. I never take a spoon or any sort of utensil to mix her food. I usually just shake her bowl a little. Also, I know I could throw out the capsule once I pour the powder into her food, the vet said she can have it either way. She can eat it as a whole or pour the powder into her food. I pay my money for this and I’m not going to waste this and throw the capsule away when my girl has no problem eating it. When I discovered Chewy sells this probiotic I was excited to know I can purchase this online instead of paying a visit to the vet office to buy this! So every time I travel with her, I always buy this. Also, please read the size you’re getting! My girl is 17lbs she’s a Lhasa Apso mixed Maltese. The small is for dogs and cats that are small in size which you will need the 15mL and the 30mL is for dogs and cats that is larger in size!

My vet prescribed this for my pup with bloody poop. I initially got it at the vet, and my vet mentioned that I can get it on Chewy. I always have an extra box of this Probiotics at home. My pup only takes the paste and not the capsules. I ended up using the capsules in the food I feed to the foxes. It helps improved the bloody diarrhea. My bestfriend's pup recently had real bad bloody diarrhea out of the blue. She was going to take her pup to the vet, and I told her to get these and Metamucil. Her pup's poop started improving the next day. In less than a week, she was about 80-90% recovered. I used to get the paste for the small dogs, 15 ml. I then realize that since my pup takes it regularly, I started getting the 30 ml paste. For a little bit more $, I get twice the paste. It is a much better deal for me.
