Why doesn't Dasuquin contain manganese, like the Cosequin capsules? If I switch from Cosequin to Dasuquin, should I give my cat a manganese supplement?

Answer by HilaryOct 25, 2023
The previous answer may be misleading. Yes, Dasuquin Advanced does contain manganese, but this product is the original Dasuquin. Dasuquin Advanced is apparently only available from veterinarians. Combining one capsule of Dasuquin and one capsule of Cosequin may be a way to try and get the benefits of the added ingredients of the Dasuquin while still getting manganese from the Cosequin. (From what I can find, purchasing one bottle of Dasuquin and one bottle of Cosequin is cheaper than one bottle of the Dasuquin Advanced.) Just an idea if money is tight.

The capsules are now clear which is a change. I’m not sure, but it seems like maybe something else has changed. Have there been any other changes to the powder inside the capsules? Active or inactive ingredients?

size of capsule? easy for cat to swallow?

Why is there color dyes in this?

I have a young tripod cat who has overgroomed his stomach/hips to the point that he’s now bald. After ruling many things out, the vet suggested maybe he has some arthritis because he’s missing a back leg. After 3 weeks his hair hasn’t started to grow back yet, but he is noticeably much more active. He’s sprinting up and down stairs, jumping up and down from my couch and coffee table, and all around more playful. The jury is still out if this will cause him to completely stop the overgrooming, but so far I’m thrilled with how much more active and comfortable he is.

I’ve heard great things about this product from many people and my vet. Unfortunately, the capsules I tried this time are too large for my cat and he won’t eat them even with his favorite pill pockets (he would eat those as treats if I let him). This was suppose to be for fractured ankle he hurt almost a year ago. I tried opening them and adding them to his wet food. He ate it ate first but by the second day he wouldn’t touch it. It definitely had a strong sent. I’ve tried the chewable ones as well but he also didn’t like the taste. He’s a larger cat and is required to take two capsules but I can’t seem to get him to take even one. If your cat will eat these, I’ve heard after 4-6 weeks its life changing. Especially when the other option is surgery. Best of luck.

This was suggested as an alternative for our aging cat to replace seraquel. saraquel can have some long term side effects they’re finding now, and so we got Leo switched to this. The vet wanted extra strength but we can’t seem to find it anywhere. I’ve noticed some pain coming back but not like it was prior to any medication. I think this keeps him comfortable. We are using it every other day in his wet food. He has no issues eating it up.

We have an 18yo cat that was declawed when she was young. Definitely has some stiffness in her hips, back, and front ankles as a result. On top of that, she has some neurological issues that have severely impacted her balance, and she has kidney disease. Old gal is a mess, but with help from our vet still doing well, all things considered. She was no longer able to get up the 3 steps to the bed, or groom her belly, though. I asked friends with senior cats for recommendations on joint supplements, and Dasequin was on the list. By the 3rd day I caught with a leg in the air grooming her belly, and on the 4th she was climbing the stairs again! I had expected to take at least a week to see some impact, but I'm definitely sold on this product and will keep giving it as long as we have her. She's been more active since starting it, used to spend most of the day in her favorite box on the floor, but she's out enjoying the sunshine and smacking the larger cat around again

My 10 year old cat started limping on his front right leg for about a week. The next week it was his back left leg and he was still limping on his front leg. I took him to the doctor. They ran a blood panel, took x-rays, the whole 9 yards. I ended up taking him twice because he just seemed to be getting worse and $700 later, no answers. I did my own research and figured it was most likely arthritis. A friend of mine suggested this as she gives it to her cat. Well, he's back to his old self again. I mix this in with the Delectables Squeeze Up lickable cat treats (bonus, there's one specifically for cats 10+ years with added vitamins) and he gobbles it up. I also found an over-the-counter pain med that has a dropper. I gave that to him as well for a few weeks and then slowed eased off of it. He seems to be doing well!

This medication helped my little fur baby Cookie. The vet first prescribed this for him. It was easier to get from Chewy than our local vet. Also I'm happy with this company everyone is very nice and very caring. We lost our Cookie August 20th of this year and we miss him terribly. When I contacted Chewy they sent their condolences to us. The photo is of our fur baby Cookie. I recommend this medication and any other items from Chewy it's a fantastic company.
